LOS ANGELES - It's taken eight years for a Conner family reunion. But, at long last, Roseanne, Dan and the gang came together at ... where else? A Hollywood bowling alley.

For the first time since "Roseanne" ended its prime-time run in 1997, the entire original cast gathered Monday evening at the Lucky Strike Bowling Center. The occasion: Their working-class sitcom's Aug. 30 DVD debut.

"It's taken a long time to get it out," Roseanne told AP Television News. "I'm happy that it's going for sale, 'cause maybe I can pay my bills. That would be cool."

Roseanne was joined by co-stars John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, as well as the three original actors to play the Conner kids: Alicia Goranson, Sara Gilbert and Michael Fishman.

"Honestly, this has already surpassed everything I kind of hoped for tonight," noted Fishman, who played the young son D.J. and now, at age 23, has two children of his own.

"Just being together, the time that we got to kind of spend waiting to do this, and walking down together," he continued. "I mean, this fills a little void that I had for a while and that I probably couldn't put my finger on. It's been amazing."

Sara Gilbert, who played daughter Darlene, noted, "It's unbelievable to see everybody. I mean, I'm so excited. I can't wait to get in there and start talking. It's a really unreal feeling cause we just haven't been together in so many years."

Gilbert is preparing for a new sitcom with Melanie Griffith and Mark Linn-Baker, "Twins," to debut this fall on The WB network.

Roseanne, 52, said she keeps in touch with the individual cast members, but was eager to see everyone in the same place. She also was excited about "bowling and having a beer. Having fun."

The four-disk "Roseanne: The Complete First Season" contains 23 episodes plus a bounty of extras, including bloopers, season highlights and other features. Roseanne contributed a new interview to the DVD set, as did Goodman, who reminisced with AP about the series' out-of-the-gate success.

"It just kind of took off," he recalled. "It felt right. It was fun. And that was that. I said, 'You know, I'm having all this fun and getting paid for it.'"

The series is widely regarded as a classic, redefining the way working-class families were portrayed on television and breaking many sitcom boundaries.

"I think it changed the landscape of, you know, the country, too," Roseanne observed. "It changed a lot the way people see themselves and how they make choices."

Even though Roseanne usually had a job outside of the home, she could be considered contemporary TV's original desperate housewife.

Replied Roseanne: "I think you stole my joke ... In fact, that's how I open my standup show: Original Desperate Housewife."

I saw that interview tonight on "Entertainment Tonight" and then again on "Insider". It was exciting to see everyone reunited again. :D

nice to see them all...I'm really sorry to say but poor John Goodman looks bad...as in sick or something. is he okay? Also I think DJ has gotten a bit ugly since the last season. Becky and Darlene look the best. Nancy looks the same except long hair and Jackie looks weird with her season 2 hair again. Roseanne as a blonde....weird. Nice to see her without gallons of makeup like she had when she had the jet back hair season.

Also its weird to look at the cast pic up at the top of the board and scroll down and see the updated one...go back and forth and notice all the changes.

Laurie and Roseanne both look really great, john looks like he's about to have a heart attack, the kids look all grown up of coarse, and sandra well she looks like sandra

sara has lost a lot of weight and laurie looks really tired and yes john goodman does look sick! i only wish johnny galecki was there and maybe crystal

to add on too that list Johnny Galecki, Estelle Parsons, Marin Mull, and only if he was still alive, Glenn Quinn. RIP :(

yea i was kinda mad johnny galekki wasn't there, he was a big part of the show.

maybe this is just season 1 characters for now, since its a season 1 dvd

no cause nancy was there and she didnt come till maybe 2nd or 3rd season

hey speaking of the dvd does anyone know about the commentaries- like who did them and for what eps?

funny that celebrities who weigh 175 are on Celebrity Fit Club yet someone like John Goodman who really belongs on it doesn't go.

I was watching ET really closely these past few weeks hoping that they would show something on Roseanne. I see they are doing a reunion and there was stuff on yesterdays episode. I press record and BOOM the power is out. It didnt come back until 5 hours later. I was so sad because its not like they talk about Roseanne everyday like they do with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Does anyone have any other pictures or video of the footage shown? I dont mind if they are bad quality.

Roseanne looked good
Lecy looks better with longer hair then that bowl cut she had on the show around the seasons Becky and Mark were dating and got married.
Sara doesnt look to happy.
John looks very bad. I know he is overweight and that is pressure enough for the heart, but he looks terrible. It looks almost as if life is going to immitate art, heart attack. I wish him the best and hope he is in good health and that looks are deceiving, but I fear the worse when seeing that pic.
Lori went back to her younger look. Glad to see she grew that manly hair cut out.

Were the other cast members invited to the reunion and decline the offer? Sandra did not play a vital character that the show could not have survived without, so why was she there and not Sarah Chalke, Bev, Leon, David, and Crystal or any other character that had a recurring role?

Lecy looks really really good. She actually looks younger from when she appeared in season 8, i guess cause she doesnt have the short hair. roseanne looks really good. yea john doesnt look too good but we can only wish the best for him. i dont see why sandra bernhard was there, she was only there for seasons 4-6 then she was off and on after that. im glad natalie west made it because she played a big part in season 1. she actually looks the same as she did in her final appearance on the show.

i just didnt realize sara was sooo skinny b/c i hear she gained weight after roseanne ended

Am I the only one who recognized Crystal? She doesn't look nearly as good as she did on the show, but come on, a man? Not everyone has Roseanne's money for plastic surgery. Sandra Bernhard isn't exactly a treat to see, either.

Well Becky & Darlene look the same, It would have been nice to see David & Mark too since they really became part of the cast also. Nevermind I looked into him.. That came as a shock & he died from a drug overdose.. Sad.. I liked Mark too!
