My mom's boss was one of those Big Brother's for awhile. I don't know if he still does it, because he's married and has 3 kids of his own. I think he enjoyed it though. Rachel3118 07-18-2005, 02:07 PM Someone in my distant family had a big brother. He came to a family party and he spent most of his time just hanging out and swimming with the kid. Mijada 07-18-2005, 03:37 PM My niece is a big sister and my sister was one also. I think they would pretty much just go to the mall, the movies McDonalds etc.. Nowhere fancy or expensive. They would help with homework and just be there as someone to talk to. MsOrange 07-18-2005, 03:38 PM My niece is a big sister and my sister was one also. My sister did it for about a year and my niece I think is on her second year. Miss Golden 07-18-2005, 08:22 PM I had a friend who did it, but the kid he was involved with was mentally ill and tried to stab him when they were at an event. Be careful who you hook with... swedeace 07-18-2005, 08:26 PM No, but I think it would be much cooler than the real sister I currently have. I hate her! *shudders* *MIBabe03* 07-18-2005, 08:31 PM I had a friend who did it, but the kid he was involved with was mentally ill and tried to stab him when they were at an event. Be careful who you hook with... Damn! robyrob 07-18-2005, 08:52 PM i had a Big Brother for a very short time when I was a kid - the waiting list back then was almost two years (no idea how bad it is now), i dont remember too much about him other than he was a truck driver and I was obsessed with BJ and the Bear. i've always wanted to volunteer as a Big Brother, but havent really had a good opportunity...and I worry about being a bad influence and twisting little minds :( MsOrange 07-18-2005, 09:59 PM I had a friend who did it, but the kid he was involved with was mentally ill and tried to stab him when they were at an event. Be careful who you hook with... I find that hard to believe seeing as how they are very very monitored in high risk cases, espeically if a child was in a case like that I submitted my name... just waiting to see if they call back Miss Golden 07-19-2005, 12:58 AM I find that hard to believe seeing as how they are very very monitored in high risk cases, espeically if a child was in a case like that I submitted my name... just waiting to see if they call back The kid was kind of sharp, he could really fool you, but once you turned your back watch out. He had a Dr. Jeckel personality. snl75 07-19-2005, 01:16 AM a friend of mine was a big sister at one time and she told me how rewarding it was and that she really enjoyed it dawsongirl 07-19-2005, 03:57 AM My mom is like a big sister, but thru our local HS. She's had several mentees. A few really cool ones (one girl went from a druggie to a very successful nurse), and a couple that scared the hell out of me. I didn't mean to say it was a bad thing. I thought he did a good job. I was just trying to describe what he did because that was what was asked. |
