View Full Version : Do you think you can be in love with two people...
Janice 07-18-2005, 01:25 AM ...at the same time? I'm talking about being romantically "in love" as opposed to just loving someone as a person.
Do you think a person in love with one person can meet someone else and fall in love?
I think it's possible. Many moons ago, I was torn between two men. It drove me insane.
Thoughts?
TripperFan 07-18-2005, 01:27 AM You know it Janice! ;) And it ain't easy at all
Brian Damage 07-18-2005, 01:28 AM I was in a similar situation where I was torn between two woman. I can't say for certain that I was in love with both of them, but I agonized over who to pick. To be honest, I didn't want to pick either, I wanted my cake and eat it too.
Brad Russ 07-18-2005, 01:37 AM I absolutely think you can be in love with more than one person at a time. Iv'e personally never believed that there is one soulmate out there for everybody. I think there are many possible soulmates out there for each person. You just have to choose one.
dawsongirl 07-18-2005, 02:32 AM I have yet to be in love with even one, so I have no idea.
I do know that you can despise several people at once though!

ABlairican Pie 07-18-2005, 08:32 AM If only I could be so lucky.... ohno:
MsOrange 07-18-2005, 08:45 AM yea, probably so, but I just think people have to be careful not to confuse love with the lust of something new and exciting.
swedeace 07-18-2005, 12:02 PM Not sure. Never been in this situation.....yet. I have yet to being madly in love (other than crushing) with ONE person, so two people has not been experienced...let alone one person.
crystals 07-18-2005, 12:19 PM I think you can have crushes or like two people, sure. I think I would draw the line, though if two people asked me out. I'm one of those one-man women. I'm not into playing games and I'm always wickedly honest.
I think it's possible to love more than one person say if a person you loved died and then you had to move on with your life with someone else, but keep the deceased person in your thoughts.

 I know what you mean about the dating one guy at a time thing. At one point in my early twenties, I was dating 3 guys at the same time. Drove me nuts - I'd call one by the other's name by mistake and it was so embarrassing!! Got too confusing and I just didn't like it. I prefer dating one at a time, but I did fall desperately in love with two guys at the same time. It wasn't lust either. It was actually really horrible.
barwars 07-18-2005, 01:07 PM I think you can, but I don't understand exactly how. I can't get the girl I think I may be in love with out of my head, which makes me pretty oblivious to all other girls. If I were to meet someone that was perfect for me, I think I'd be clueless, because the thought of the first girl is always in my mind.

You are 100% correct.
I can't tell you how much time I wasted pining for the girl after the relationship ended. When I finally got to the next serious relationship I would be amazed at how stupid I was.
And then repeat the pattern again.
Eventually you understand, but there are way too many factors in any sort of relationship to pin it down to "is this possible".
Anything is possible.
So yeah, I think you can be in love with 2 people at once, but it's hard enough loving one.
*MIBabe03* 07-18-2005, 01:27 PM Yeah, I guess. I wouldn't know, believe me I don't have guys pining for me.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 07-18-2005, 04:31 PM Yeah, I guess. I wouldn't know, believe me I don't have guys pining for me.
Un-pined...UNITE!

Dean Winchester 07-18-2005, 05:23 PM been there, done that, neither were interested in me anyways.

Not sure what you mean Solomon.
Seinatra 07-18-2005, 05:38 PM I tend to think that you can only be in love with one person at a time. I mean if you start loving someone else, then you don't truly love the first person anymore, or your just kidding yourself thinking that you love the second person more.
Courtnee 07-18-2005, 05:58 PM I think it's possible.

I see what you're saying, but they're two slightly different kinds of love. The first one is usually the "comfortable, familar" one - like a pair of favourite shoes. You love them on a deep level.
The newer relationship is more like the beginning of a love - passionate, "dangerous", probably more physical too, but they both are loves you don't want to lose. Like Brian said, it's like having the best of both worlds always - which comes crashing down at some point.
Dude111 07-09-2021, 08:38 PM I think you can have crushes or like two people, sure. I dont think its possible...... If you really love someone, you are gonna stay focused on that ONE PERSON and not be cheating/flirting.........

There are all possible situations on this love issue. I'm not wild about the "in love" aspect, it's like a person out of control. One can love someone from their past and not forget them and meet someone new and be loving them. Many possibilities. I fell "in love", married and it ended in divorce, so I guess that was my point to be aware of the love issues.
I believe that if someone deeply cares for another, alleged flaws and all, then you not out looking for someone else.
In my life of finding love, it probably happened 2 times after the marriage, it's not an easy job finding that great love.
For some it never happens at all. Isn't there a song with these word...
GentlemanJim 07-10-2021, 02:56 PM I think it's important to distinguish between love and lust.
If you are truly in love with someone, and they are reciprocating, then I believe there is a sense of willing sacrifice, that you would not want to risk hurting them with betrayal.
If, on the other hand, there is a feeling of slight return, then THAT is what I believe gives rise to "cheating hearts".
Theda Bara 07-10-2021, 03:17 PM No, it would be impossible for me to be in love with two people. When I am in love with a person I only have feelings for them.
Dude111 07-10-2021, 03:31 PM Yup thats how I feel also....... (How can you love 2 ppl?? It must be hard)
