This year we spent our family vacation at Cape Cod (our first time there). We stayed at South Yarmouth, but we took a day trip to Nantucket. We took the ferry boat there, but I would have loved to have taken one of the "Sandpiper Airlines"-type charter planes to the island.

We saw the airport and even the "Club Car" restaurant, but I was surprised at how small and provincial the island seems compared to how it's portrayed on "WINGS". For some reason, Nantucket seems to be a larger town on "WINGS"....almost like a "Little Boston". As I took the bus tour of the island and walked around the business district, I just couldn't picture Joe, Brian, Helen, Antonio and the rest of the characters LIVING there....although my family and I did love the beautiful island.

Has anyone here actually been to Nantucket? If so, what are your thoughts of it, and how do you think the REAL Nantucket compares to the "Wings" Nantucket?

I'm glad you and your family had a good time here in the good ol' Bay State. The Cape is lovely, but I've never been out to the islands. My friend's family took a bike trip around Nantucket a few years ago and loved it there.

Peter, I take it you didn't come to New England during one of our "lovely" winters ;) Actually, they're not that bad, but they could be a little shorter.

I did go to New England, but i went there in the summertime, it was gorgeous especially around the Mistique area.

I went with my family when I was about 13 (close to 17 years ago now). I remember we also took a ferry boat out there. Even at such a young age, I loved it tremendously. I remember going to the whaling museum, going to the docks, and eating those fancy hot dogs they have up in New England (and can't get anywhere else) where they toast the buns (which are more like folded rolls than buns).

I would love to go back now!
