Congratulations! When are you due?

I have a co-worker who's due in early December, and she's going to have a girl. It seems that most pregnancies I know of almost always have the sex being a boy instead of a girl. I knew of a lot of other pregnancies in 2005, and they were mostly all boys. Are there really more baby boys born in the world, or is it just a coincidence?

It’s a boy streak: U.S. baby boys outnumber girls

all my boysIt seems as if all my friends are having gaggles of little boys. We wondered if it was something in the water here in Portland, but it’s happening across the continent, too; with friends in New York, Princeton, Washington D.C., everyone I know is having boys.

I guess it’s not just my baby-blue-colored glasses; it’s the longest-running trend in U.S. babies, and it dates back to 1940. The CDC’s latest numbers are for 2002, when there were 94,000 more boys than girls. The highest boy:girl ratio was in 1946, when there were 1,059 boys born for every 1,000 girls. Experts wonder if it could be maternal age (younger moms have more boys), racial background (Chinese and Filipino women are the best at birthing boys) or the number of children in each family (the more children a mom has, the more likely there are to be equal numbers of boys and girls).

That last theory is interesting; does that meaning repeated trying for a girl will eventually work? Hmmm…
