Last Night on Smackdown, Road Warrior Animal returned to the WWE to help out Heidenrich from the assualt by Nitro and Mercury. He will also be Heidenrich's partner at the Great American Bash against MNM (Nitro and Mercury).
It was great to see Road Warrior Animal back in the WWE, but it was very sad to see him without one of my favorites the late great Michael "Road Warrior Hawk" Hegstrand, whom died in October 2003 almost 2 years ago. I have had the legendary Hawk in my avatar ever since his death nearly 2 years ago, I respect him that much. Anyway's, I am sure Animal is just back for a very short time to help promote the Road Warrior's WWE DVD which was just recently released. I have to say the last time the Road Warriors were together in the WWE was only a little over 2 years ago in a match against Rob Van Dam and Kane whom were the Raw Tag Team Champs at the time. There performance was nothing like the Road Warriors team we all remember from the 80s and most of the 90s, you could tell Hawk was out of shape and was also suffering from the demons that plaqued him during his final years. The Road Warriors had signed a deal with the WWE, but the WWE backed out after the poor performance from them especially Hawk. If I had known that would be the last time we would see them together, I would have not criticized that match at all. Hawk would be dead 5 months later.
But this is not the first time we have seen Road Warrior Animal alone. Back in January 2001 during WCW's last 3 months, Animal returned to WCW and joined up with Ric Flair's new stable the magnificent seven. He played a Heel role and basically served as a bodyguard to Flair and never had a true wrestling role. He remained with WCW until its death in March 2001. No mention of Road Warrior Hawk was ever made, but I assume he must have been dealing with his issues.
