Just curious about this show. I haven't seen it in years and only caught a couple of episodes back then. Is this a show I might enjoy buying if I'm not too familiar with the characters? Just wondering if it's worth getting into now that they're releasing it on DVD. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks!

Well the show was a HIT for ABC when it first premiered in Sept of 1974. Even TV Guide gave the show a good review. I think the ratings started to slip when it was competing against Tony Orlando and Dawn on Wednesdays Nights. Another reason it probably didn't do well was because it wasn;t your Typical Black show. Meaning that the Main character of this show wasn't a Standout character like Fred Sanford, George Jefferson, and James Evans. The main character of this show was the complete opposite of all those characters I just named. But I can;t really say if you should buy season 1 because I haven;t seen season 1 either-lol I;m buying because this was one of the black shows from the 70's that wasn't in syndication that much so I'm eager to season season 1. But it's not a show like the Jeffersons, Good Times, or sanford and Son, it's more of a laid back comedy. One character that I think you will enjoy is "Junior" if you buy the DVD. He was a supporting character that was a combination of Rollo and J.J

I plan to do the same if Alice or One Day at a Time was ever released on DVD.
