He was mad at Jerry and looked and him with a frustrated expression and said-"I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW JERRY THAT WHEN YOU CONTROL THE MAIL, YOU CONTROL INFORMATION!!!!!!!

lol

Who else got a chuckle out of that?

Whoever says no is lying. Thats one of Newman's best moments.

Not to get too technical, but I think the quote was closer to this:

"All right, all right. All right you go ahead. You go ahead and keep it secret. But you remember this - when you control the mail, you control ... information!"

Anyway I thought this was funny. It is funny in that Newman kind of shows himself to be silly because he is trying to make himself all important about what power he has and then ends it with saying he controls information - like so what, big deal, what does that mean??

His whole story about wanting to figure out what his boss is saying before this is also classic.

I'm surprised you like Newman so much, considering he is sort of a goofy character and I know how you hate goofy characters Solomon.

The scene this thread is about was a goofy Newman moment. He may not have been goofy like Jack Tripper or Kramer, but he was a goofy character.

I don't find it that funny, but I was in hysterics in the episode where Kramer goes to court with Newman to help him get out of parking ticket. Newman put on a terrific performance in that!

But he was asked to ride the bike, he didn't do it on his own.

How about him scratching for fleas?

Spitting out broccoli and calling it "vile weed".

Feeling a woman's jacket and being chased by her boyfriend,

Well I don't think I ever heard him say that, and I didn't laugh when I saw the quote, but add Wayne Knight's delivery of the line, and it'd be the funniest thing on earth.

How about when the two were trying to sell these used records and Kramer was telling Newman what to say; "you omit a foul and repulsive odor"!

Kramer- "Oh, stop saying 'reneg'!"

Any time Newman's job as postal worker is mentioned is usually hilarious.

Me being a postal worker and former mail carrier (don't get scared people) I find Newman to be my favorite. Some of what he says is true. The more you get the mail out the more it keeps coming in, and you gotta get it out. Our machines are pretty high tech, barcodes are not needed as much. In fact our DBCS or letter sorter will put a barcode on letters so they can be walked sequence. But please know zip codes are needed. You would not believe how many people will send income tax to the IRS with no town or zip. Do you know how many different places that can go, not just to the one in washington. There is an IRS place in every state. Ok I have rambled on enough about that.

The bottle disposit is my favorite. Newman taking a mail truck to get cans to michigan for 10 cents. Oh yea mothers day is right up there with Christmas as a busy mail time. Fathers day is not. The only heavy mail on Fathers day is overseas military. Yes I know there are women soldiers too, I am just making a point.

Funny you should mention that... Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode in which Newman "admitted" that zip codes really don't mean anything?

I liked Newman's character... and I remember being surprised, after the show ended its run, how few episodes he was actually in... seemed like he was there all the time, once they introduced his character...

Yeah, but I forget what episode it is. Maybe "The Junk Mail"?

And Newman was definitely a goofy character, just not as broad about it as Kramer was. You don't have to be a happy, bubbly character to be goofy.

Newman didn't strike me as goofy. I mean he had a couple of silly moments but he wasn't goofy at all to me.

I liked everytime this line was said

Newman:Hello,Jerry
Jerry::mad: Hello,Newman

Then there was the episode where Kramer wanted to cancel his mail and he made these weird expressions when Kramer came up with other great ways of how he can get things done without mail
