While watching an episode today on Channel 23 in Chicago (Our Son The Man), after the station logo, we saw the Paramount logo, then the "Brady Bunch, in Living Color " screen. I don't ever remember seeing this on the syndicated prints. I don't have the DVDs, but I know the DVDs include this. Maybe someone over at Channel 23 got a copy of the Season 2 DVD and is airing the episodes from them. They only had about 4 1/2 minutes of commercials during it, so I'm certain it was unedited. There was a scene where Alice gets stuck in the sleeping bag which looks like it would have been cut for syndication, and also a little tag after Mike & Carol are introduced to Greg's new room, right before the commercial break.

I wish ME-TV would show all unedited episodes of the Brady Bunch.

How strange. And you were saying in another thread that the other episodes have the old Paramount logo at the end, so presumably those are from the previous syndication cycle (pre-TV Land). The last time the "In Color" bumpers were used in syndication was back in the 1970s/early 80s, and they didn't have the Paramount logo at the beginning. It certainly sounds like they used a home video version; the big question is why, and did Paramount authorize it.

I wonder if the station requested some full versions of the show, possibly because they haven't sold all the ad inventory. Paramount has never distributed the show uncut in syndication, so it's conceivable that they'd simply transfer a home video version. Very interesting situation.

I tried to call the station to ask them, but couldn't get in touch with anyone yesterday, perhaps I will try again today.

So far, this was the only episode that they have aired which had the "in color" at the beginning.

Is there a line in there where Greg is carrying a chair from Mike's den and Alice says, "Greg, if your father catches you with that chair, you won't be doing any sitting." I remember that line clear as day! I even have it listed as being from "Our Son The Man" in the "Scenes no longer aired thread." but I need varification if that line is from this episode. I don't live in Chicago...damn! Now, is this the ONLY episode that you saw on this station uncut?

The "In Color" bumper was used for all of season 2 (with different music) as well.

Did you contact anyone from the station about this? Maybe you shouldn't because, why ruin a great thing!!!??? (They could just go back to the syndicated version of this episode.)

The Season 2 DVD is coming real soon, so if any of you live in Chicago, have a DVD Player, and eventually get the seasons on DVD, it would be cool to compare to see if you are really getting (or got) at least one uncut episode.

I think unfortunately, that what happend was a fluke. That is, somehow, the station got a hold of a commercial produced home-video version. Someone had mentioned (can't recall if it was you or not) that they did show a syndicated copy of 54-40 and Fight on the station and it had Tiger's bath/and the trading stamps stuck on him cut out. (as it has been for years.)

That was probably edited due to the fact that it implied Mike would use physical punishment to Greg by spanking him.

I live in the Cbicago area, but unfortunally channel 23 does not come in clearly. I saw another difference on DVD is on the episode Vote For Brady. The song on the closing logo is different. It also seemed that it was not synicated even though I used to watch that show every day when it was in syndication on WFLD 32. When it was on WPWR tv I did not watch it very much at first, but I saw that Vote for Brady was on there. I found out the title from a book about the show. I first saw the closing credits of it since I was going to record the closing logo, but just the sound. I watched some of it the next time after I bought a vcr. I finally watched it all on the DVD. I wonder if channel 32 and TV land will air it unlike 32. I cannot get that station to see if the other version of the song will be on. They used the the last version of it though. They kept the other variants of their songs though.

Channnel 23 had some snow on it where I used to live, but where I live now it gradually got worse. It comes in better on vcr and also where my friend lives. It is basically dead air where I live now. Most of the other stations that used to come in clearly are snowy now. Channel is the sister station of WCIU the U. The Odd Couple was the oppisite where they did not have the original closing logos. I just mentioned this because that is another Paramount show. I read that the sets for The Odd Couple were next to the set for The Brady Bunch. I also read this in that book. I think the author was the one mentioned as part of the special features for The Brady Bunch. I acually walked passed the building of channel 23 once. It is close to UIc and United Center where the Chicgago Bulls play. I did not notice the part where Mrs. Brady says that to Greg. I just noticed parts that I did not remember seeing since the 70's and 80's. The part that says it is in color was also on VHS. My mother got cable to see tv better, but 23 is not part of it not even digital. It is coming soon though. That is probably strange for a cable company not to carry a local broadcast channel. I am an adult even though I still live with my parents.

Someone may have gotten a newer syndicated print of that episode included with the package. I did not see the beginning so don't know if the bumper music and steps picture was included. The station did cut away before any Paramount or syndicated logo could be shown after the closing credits.

However, "The Liberation of Marcia Brady" immediately followed and that was the same syndicated cut that has been used for years.

I have theory type of answers.
1.Probably not. They probably just found it somewhere and decided to air it (they probably thought that Paramount would--if they would air it and see it on TV that they wouldn't care and that it wouldn't matter to them).
2.If Paramount didn't authorize,probably someone at the network and they probably thought that Paramount wouldn't care.
3.Years,less than 30 (I think) but yeah years. Decades even. Probably when the show first ever started airing in syndication.
4.That's not really a question. That's moreof a thought than an actual question.
Maybe my theories are ridiculous and stupid but this is truly what I think. I think the station head(s) is/are idiot(s) and thought that Paramount would not give a damn or throw a hissy fit or something like that. They thought they could get away with airing an uncut (non-syndicated) episode. This kind of gets me upset!
