If the series had not been cancelled, what do you think the last episode would have been like? Do you think it would have been a big finale with family, etc...?

"If the series had not been cancelled" we'd still be watching episodes each week, because the show would still be on.

Of course with the passing of Fred Gwynne, things would certainly have changed. And they'd probably be on their fourtieth or fiftieth Marilyn by now.

No, I mean if the show could have ended normally, like Andy Griffith, I Love Lucy, and All in the family did.

Okay, all kidding aside... I think it could have gone on for a few more years. I don't know if Fred would have stayed with it, though. Doing the series was extremely hard on him. Perhaps Herman would have retired from the parlor and gone to Germany to visit "the family" and returned home from time to time to tell everybody all about his escapades there. (All this accommodating Fred partially leaving the show.)

They probably would have waited to do the MGH movie. I think the movie was a way to make back some of the cost of the series for the studio and the producers. I still think something similar would have been done, but not until the end of the series run. Then maybe used it as a going away party. With the whole family moving to Germany to be with Herman. I imagine it as a collage type movie, with the family packing up the house. While packing certain items they have flashbacks to events from the episodes. Then ending with them all driving off into the sunset to meet the ship to sail to the old country.

(It's questionable in my head if they would have opted for color or stayed with the black & white. It was a take off on the classic Universal monsters and they were B&W, so, it stands to reason the show was, too.) But, with the arrival of all the colors in shows like Batman, they may have buckled from studio heads colordemands.

I do think that a couple more seasons would have realized Marilyn graduating from college, (even though we have no idea what she was taking there.) M-a-y-b-e... even finding a steady boyfriend. :) She'd of course remain in the house with her new beau beside her.

Then a couple more seasons would have had Eddie graduating from school, too. Of course, he wouldn't go to college, he'd start a band! :D

I think since pretty much all shows were in color for the 1966-1967 season, The Munsters would have followed in that path. It wouldn't matter much anyway, most people didn't have color sets till the 70's.

Since we never saw Mr. Goodbury, or Mr. Graves, it is safe to assume that they either cashed in their employee discount, or they retired, whichever came first. Mr. Gatemen would probably retire and Herman could run the parlor.

Lily would stay a housewife, Grandpa would continue to blow up things, Marilyn would graduate from Westbury, and Eddie in high school.

I also wish the Drag-U-La came back, so that Herman and Grandpa could have some sort of a race down Mockingbird Lane. And if the cops showed up, they would just see Herman and run away, so there'd be no problem.

Also a family reunion would have been hilarious with, Lester, Charlie, Johann, Uncle Gilbert, Cousin Wolffie, and those two relatives that Lily mentioned from ep. #65, and of course Boris, Grandpa's robot version of a brother for Eddie.
