Harry Anderson played a character on Night Court as a judge
wearing blue jeans on every episode was that in the script
he wore them in all seasons
so thats how his character was noted
or is because he wanted the part ...

Some of Harry Anderson's traits as a person were incorporated into his character. I think this may have been one of them. I think Weege and company had him keep his youthful look because a suit would make him look like a bit of a stuffed shirt. He wouldn't stand out and be distinguished between the other characters. It's just like Richard Moll's bald head. Richard's head was shaved because he had just done a movie. The producers liked it so much they asked if he'd keep it, and the rest is history.
