remember when this was a trade board and filled with trade posts

seems like all we have anymore is whos scamming the next guy, and security checks

and new folks looking for the rarest items on the planet, and when they find them, they dont have anything to offer in trade anyhow

how about we get back to why we come here, to trade for some stuff and enjoy this activity

This is just a suggestion for the moderators. Why not set up an area for JUST feedback. Then people would have a place to look for good and bad traders and another area for everyone looking for that rare tv show.

That's a good idea. I'll talk to TJ about it.

Trading is a interesting concept. There are two or three different types of traders. One for possibly ego reasons wants everything there is out there, lives and breathes so they can say they have everything. Have no time to view or enjoy anything but just collects and collects and goes from board to board seeing what thet can garner up. Some are around simply to fill their inventory so they can have more to sell, treating this as big business and not as a hobby. They have no time or inclination to read anything but "what you got, when can you send" and let's make a deal. If you have anything to say that doesn't benefit them, their attitude is don't say it.

Of course at the other end of the spectrum is those who don't do many trades, look for a special period of time or a certain genre and when they receive, they sit back and enjoy. Of course there are many in between.

Because you want to trade, you just can't expect people to knock down your door. You must have something that to use a card expression we said as kids, don't offer commons, stuff that any serious collector has. We can all get the stuff from Best Buy or what's playing on television. You need things which most people don't have. The only era that interests me is the 50's and 60's and that's all I look or trade for. Don't care about having the biggest collection or the most varied, hence I don't do much trading but have a small circle that I trade with. As example just picked up 20 episodes of Gangbusters, 14 of medic, had full run of Mackensie's raiders sent to me as over 100 Burns and Allan. Got the full run of Bucaneers and the entire 140 episodes of Robin Hood. That's what I enjoy but to tell people what to post is ludicrous. Don't like what people say,use the delete key but one can pick up valuable information from these bad trader posts.

I also remember the days when I felt apart of this trading community and now since I'm only a Beta Tape Trader, i feel left out. Not a good feeling at all. it kind makes me not want to come here once I began DVD trading. I will not forget these days.

A quiet board doesn't necessarily mean inactivity. I rarely post my list, but I trade practically nonstop, when my burner's not out of commission. I have around 10 traders that I work with, swapping back and forth, back and forth, helping each other complete sets. There's no need to post because we keep our dealings in private now that we've found each other.

The newbies tend to post the most. The longer you're at this hobby and the more friends you make, the less you'll post because you will have more than enough to keep yourself occupied.

I'm new to this board so getting use to how things work here but the boards I trade on have a forum for trader checks so that everything doesn't get cluttered up. Trader checks are something that is neccessary in the trading world that way your not sending your stuff out into the air never to be seen or heard from again. It's just like you wouldn't give some random person your rent money and say oh yeah make sure this gets to my landlord because more then likely you and your landlord are never going to see that money again.

I agree that a quiet board does not necessarily mean no trading is happening, I have just completed 4 large trades with members of this forum but aside from the first contact, the rest of the correspondance was done through emails.

Loren I find it strange that you are posting this thread as I have made 3 trade requests and all 3 times you said I had nothing you wanted (once you offered to sell but no trade), I have over 1000 dvds and so far have not had any problems trading. Perhaps because you have such a huge list and a specialized want list, no one is capable of trading with you.

I am always open for trades

Trader checks are common here and expected. Cutting to the quick, check the top of the board for a the good, the bad, and the ugly (recommended traders & bad traders). :D

We don't have separate sections. What you see is what you get.

It does take a little while for people to trust a new person on the board. Forgive those that jump the gun a bit on that. It's certainly nothing personal.

By the way, welcome.

Agent13 you also have a good point. When I first became a member on here it was hard at first to trade. I sent first most of the time then after a while and people notice your "have list" growing, that means you are making trades. Then if no one posts a bad trader posting or if they give you a good word everything will fall into place so to speak. People start contacting you for trades and you no longer have to send first everytime.

I just meant when replying to Loren that I would like to see some want lists or whatever. A lot of the time though people have their want list on the website if they have one which a good most of the traders do you can look at them there.

I know myself that if I get something new I sometimes list that then if someone likes to see what else I have they can click on the link to my website. If they don't that is fine to. I have been really busy completing trades here lately and have been non-stop and I have had to turn trades down just simply because I do not have the time unless they just have that one special thing that I just have to have. I do however save the emails that I would like to trade with eventually to a special folder in my email for future trades when I get more time. I also let people know this.

So like you stated just because someone is not posting their have or want lists then that does not mean they are not trading. It is just done and not everyone knows about it. I just did not think about it that way at first but I do see your point now.

yes in my specific case i agree with you totaly. i dont want annime, cartoons, movies, new retails, and partial sets. so yes it is hard to find thing to add to my holdings.

i am refering in general to the board, not just to me

but look at the posts, there are hardly any replies when people say they have an item, and very few when they say they need one

I've noticed (at least with me) that when I post a have/want list I get emails and PMs rather than getting replies in the thread.

Same here. 90% of my trades came to me via email.

I also get emails and PMs. Very rarely do I get any replies to the thread itself. I like this the best too.

I only post this because the subject line is remember when and this is called do you remember. You must be a old timer to appreciate this and yes, I'm a old timer. Each and everyone of these I remember and grew up with in New York City and that was a long time ago. As you listen scroll down and look at the pictures. If too young show it to your folks or grandparents and they will appreciate it. Yes, this is what I remember before there was television, just radio. Most of the early tv shows from the 50's had therir start in radio and I love to listen to them as they bring back warm, fond memories. Sorry to bore you.
