View Full Version : Does anyone remember anything from when you were only 4 years old?
TVFactFan 07-11-2005, 02:42 PM I'm having a discussion about Raven Saymone talking about the year of 1989 on VH1 I love the 80's. This was the year she was only 3 years old so how much could she have known. I don;t remember anything from the age of 3. I think I can go back to the age of 6. But who remembers anything from when they were only 3? Especially about music or clothes. Raven is a weirdo
James"Thunder"Early 07-11-2005, 02:45 PM I remember some things, but not a whole lot. It's mostly vague memories, but there are some there.
dlemond 07-11-2005, 02:46 PM You should preface this question with, "Anyone over 16 years old" because a bunch of 12 year olds might have some lingering imprints, or memories, but that is just silly. Raven is now 20 years old.
Superstar 07-11-2005, 02:46 PM Raven is a weirdo
:brent
I remember alot of things from that age. I remember moving to a new house, I remember Christmas, I remember how I watched Mary Poppins everyday. I also remember alot of stuff from pre-school.
vienna waits 07-11-2005, 02:48 PM well everyone on I love the ___ just spits out the lines they feed them so that doesn't surprise me.
dlemond 07-11-2005, 02:51 PM :brent
I remember alot of things from that age. I remember moving to a new house, I remember Christmas, I remember how I watched Mary Poppins everyday. I also remember alot of stuff from pre-school.
And you are 14.
In 6 years I doubt it will be so clear.
And cheers on the Vicar quote, nice.
Kristen J. 07-11-2005, 02:53 PM I remember standing in my kitchen doorway taking a bit of a strawberry and then spitting it out. :D And I remember running in my back yard and my mom taking a picture. But that's about as far back as I can go.
TripperFan 07-11-2005, 02:54 PM Even at my age, I remember several events from as far back as age 3 - I vividly remember having my tonsils removed and getting immunization shots.
I also remember a dog we had back then and certain days spent with my grandmother.
Superstar 07-11-2005, 02:58 PM And you are 14.
In 6 years I doubt it will be so clear.
And cheers on the Vicar quote, nice.
So do I.
And, yeah, they probably are fed lines on that show, so frankly I doubt they are Raven's memories, and if she wasn't told what to say, she was probably saying what she had heard from other people.
:)
PZelda 07-11-2005, 03:02 PM No, Raven is still 19. However, she was born at the end of 1985 so she won't be 20 until December. I am older than her by 4 months. :p
I have an amazing memory... I cannot recall every single detail, but I can remember being in preschool when I was 2 in 1987. There was also this female teacher that used to come to my house every week the 1987-88 school year. The last time my dad asked me if I remembered her, I said, "Yup, I do...Did she have long, golden blonde hair?" and he stared at me when I said that. She'd only worked with me that one year.
I also vividly remember playing Zelda because it came out to the US in '87. It was back in the day when the controllers were simple for a toddler to grasp. That's why there were so many educational NES/SNES games back then and why you don't see any for the GameCube and stuff like that now.
Another one of my first memories is watching Spaceballs with my family that year. I was too young to understand the dialogue, but I clearly remember watching it. I remember Pizza the Hutt the most, because he had melted cheese and pepperonis rolling off him.
So, in conclusion, it IS possible to remember something when you were that little. Truthfully? I think that the I Love the __'s is scripted, so I agree with Jeff. I mean, come on...they had people born in 1981 being interviewed on the I Love the 70's.
Even at my age, I remember several events from as far back as age 3 - I vividly remember having my tonsils removed and getting immunization shots.
I also remember a dog we had back then and certain days spent with my grandmother.
ME TOO. I remember having my tonsils removed as well! My parents woke me really early that morning and my throat hurt soooooo much. I tried to eat Cheerios, but I couldn't because it hurt too much to eat. That was in early 1988, when I was 2½.
I could write a book about the stuff I remember BEFORE I started kindergarten.
EmoJoe 07-11-2005, 03:17 PM I remember pre-school :D
I also remember crying on my first day of pre-school when I was 3 cause I missed my mom
I also rememember a few things from when I wasas a baby  I remember swimming in a little blow-up pool and I remember when I was being put down for a nap one time :lookaroun
TripperFan 07-11-2005, 03:26 PM ME TOO. I remember having my tonsils removed as well! My parents woke me really early that morning and my throat hurt soooooo much. I tried to eat Cheerios, but I couldn't because it hurt too much to eat. That was in early 1988, when I was 2½.

Yup - I remember how sore my throat was, and not even eating my favourite - ice cream. I remember them telling me that I couldn't go home until I started to at least drink something. I still remember that sip of ginger-ale and how much it burned!!!
I remember the nurse holding me while another gave me the shot in the thigh to immunize me and me knocking her cap off.
For a while I wondered if it was through pictures I had the memories, but no pictures were taken at the hospital!
You can definitely remember things quite young. I imagine more so for traumatic events.

I remember having certain things from the 80s, and I was born in 1985. I mean when you've got toys and clothes hanging around a few years after, you remember it.
EmoJoe 07-11-2005, 03:29 PM I mean when you've got toys and clothes hanging around a few years after, you remember it.
:yeahthat
Fleet 07-11-2005, 03:44 PM Yeah, I remember some things from age 4 (or around that age). Mostly things from the house we lived in until I was 5.
- A power outage.
- A family room roof which leaked when it rained (because my dad didn't put in the tar paper properly- so I've been told)
- "The Flintstones" TV show.
- Numerous cartoons.
Karen* 07-11-2005, 03:54 PM I remember my fourth birthday party and watching LOTS of TV. And TGIF on ABC...ah, the good ol' days. :p
Living In a '70's Dream 07-11-2005, 04:07 PM Yes I can remember when I was four years old; preschool, my brother as a baby, etc.
Number 9 Dream 07-11-2005, 04:15 PM I'm 22 and the furthest I can remember was playing Atari when I was 6 or 7 years old
Courtnee 07-11-2005, 04:16 PM I remeber being in preschool. there we were each assined blocks to sit on..i sat on an airplane. I used to find that ironic because my father is in the Air Force
Mr. Television 07-11-2005, 04:16 PM I remember a few things. I remember the dog we had who would chase her tail and jump into the front seat of the car when we went shopping. I remember our old trailor and the trailor park we used to live in. It was in the back woods somewhere up in Richmond. I remember some of the toys I had but my memory is sketchy that far back.
TVFactFan 07-11-2005, 04:17 PM I remember having certain things from the 80s, and I was born in 1985. I mean when you've got toys and clothes hanging around a few years after, you remember it.
Ok i know you may remember some things from when you were 3 or 4 but I doubt if you can sit me down in a chair and have a discussion with me about the year of 1984.
Number 9 Dream 07-11-2005, 04:25 PM What strikes me as odd is when some of the guests on the I Love the 70's shows weren't even born yet(or else really young!) and they were still discussing it at length.
Mijada 07-11-2005, 04:40 PM I remember a lot of stuff when I was 3 and 4 years old. Watching "Alice" on tv. Playing with my siblings, certain toys I had, certain clothes I wore, the family station wagon, going up north in the summer with my family and getting lost on the beach when I wandered away from my mom, the numerous spankings my mom gave me and the times I got sick in the winter and my mom smearing Vicks all over my chest and then wrapping me up in towels. I even have memory of standing in a crib in my parents room so I must have been really young then. Probably not even 3 years old. Like any child at that age I didn't have any knowledge of what year it was or what was going on in the world but I do have many, many memories, mostly involving the house/neighborhood we lived in and my family. The first time I really remember understanding dates and time was in 1979 when I was in second grade and being taught by my teacher to always put the date on my school papers.
rusyd 07-11-2005, 04:52 PM I remember things when I was 4. I remember I was the only kid left at home because all my brothers and sisters were at school. That just left my Mom and myself at home.
TVFactFan 07-11-2005, 04:55 PM I remember a few things. I remember the dog we had who would chase her tail and jump into the front seat of the car when we went shopping. Do you remember watching any TV shows in PrimeTime in 1969? How bout the Ice Bowl between Dallas and Green Bay in 1967?-lol Just joking Sonny
peter may 07-11-2005, 05:10 PM My earliest memory is when i was in Italy and kept chasin a bunch of pigeons around and also the time when i was on holiday in the new forest somewhere in england, and i went behind a horse and it kicked me, that was the same day i fell in a ditch too  Ah Memories
barwars 07-11-2005, 05:15 PM Raven's childhood was also probably completely caught on camera, which would make it easier for her to recollect certain situations.
As for me, my earlist memory is from when I was 4, we were going to the theater to see "Rock-A-Doodle", but my old brother wanted to see "Ferngully" instead, so we went to see that. I can distinctly remember watching it on the screen, and the arguement outside because me and my other brother wanted to see "Rock-A-Doodle", but we didn't end up seeing it. Needless to say, I've since seen both movies, and neither were any good. Animation still hasn't been done right outside of Disney.
JDS84 07-11-2005, 05:21 PM I don't remember alot of things when I was 4 years old.
Mr. Television 07-11-2005, 05:28 PM Do you remember watching any TV shows in PrimeTime in 1969? How bout the Ice Bowl between Dallas and Green Bay in 1967?-lol Just joking Sonny
I remember watching Lassie, Walt Disney and Bonanza around that time. And I do remember The Ed Sullivan Show on tv although I never paid much attention to it. Nope I don't remember the ice bowl. I didn't become a Cowboy fan until Superbowl X.
Tuesday Weld 07-11-2005, 05:49 PM I just vaguely remember being 4 yrs old.
Living In a '70's Dream 07-11-2005, 06:09 PM I am 35 years old and I remember 1974 quite well, that year I started preschool and I remember my school and the activities that took place, I even remember attending a Halloween party at my preschool (and that is October 31st, 1974)..I also can remember this lady that used to take care of me quite vividly, but then again I can remember certain things that took place when I was two years old..

I was watching that too, Solomon and she talked about 1989 liked she lived it! I was like, she was a damn baby back then! I was 4 in 1978. The only thing I remember was I was wearing Superman underoos (Don't laugh) and that my mom use to take me to preschool and i use to cry when she dropped me off. As far as music, I only remember "One Nation Under a Groove" by Funkadelic. Why, because my older brothers use to play it all the time.
Raven Saymone is full of s hit!
Southern Hellraiser 07-11-2005, 07:51 PM I was 4 in 1996, and I remember my uncle being 2 hours late from picking me up from pre school, I remember my teacher, Mrs Blair, beating my classmate with drumsticks for peeing in his sleeping bag. I also remember watching that movie BeBe's kids the morning I was to start preschool.
Hollow 07-11-2005, 08:14 PM I can't believe you all can only remember so far back. i remember plenty of things from when i was an infant. i remember crawling around on the floor at home before i could walk, sitting in the baby seat in the shopping cart at the grocery store with my mom, not being able to bite into an apple because i didn't have enough teeth, sitting in my high chair.
i have an awful memory of my dad purposely locking me out of the apartment when i was about three years old. i remember crying and trying to open the door and he wouldn't let me in. apparently my mom wasn't home. i don't remember why and he's probably forgotten about the whole thing, but i still really resent him for that. i remember from about the time i could understand language, i didn't really like him and i LOVED my mom.
Moonlight Lady 07-11-2005, 08:26 PM I was 4 in 1973. I remember still living in CT. The pre-school (we called it nursery school back then) was in the basement of a church. It was next door to the Fire station and walking distance to the commuter train into NYC.
My most vivid memories from that age is taking a ride on the train from Springdale to New Canaan, watching Sesame Street and Electric Company
and the 45 minute rides to Long Island with my parents to visit relatives.

She was 3, turned 4 at the end of '89 and that was the year she joined the cast of The Cosby Show. Toddler, maybe. But she wasn't a baby in '89.

Plus her life is on tv so it is probably easier for her to recollect certain things.
Steve M. 07-11-2005, 10:47 PM I was born in November 1965, so I was four for most of 1970. I remember holding my baby sister when she was born and I remember visiting my maternal grandparents and playing in the playground around the corner from their house - before my family moved.
Heck, I have memories from the summer of 1969, when I was still three. I remember going for boat rides in the lake behind our house and riding my plastic cycles down the street! :)
PZelda 07-11-2005, 10:51 PM Plus her life is on tv so it is probably easier for her to recollect certain things.
That's true.

You remember things from when you were an Infant?-LOL I see you been smoking that WACKY TACBACKY AGAIN-lol
Brian Damage 07-11-2005, 10:57 PM I can really only go back as far as 6 years old to really remember clearly about anything.
TVFactFan 07-11-2005, 11:02 PM She was 3, turned 4 at the end of '89 and that was the year she joined the cast of The Cosby Show. Toddler, maybe. But she wasn't a baby in '89.
The only thing she should be talking about from 1989 is her experience on the Cosby Show. Not Music, Not Clothes, or mOVIES
TripperFan 07-11-2005, 11:38 PM I remember watching Lassie, Walt Disney and Bonanza around that time. And I do remember The Ed Sullivan Show on tv although I never paid much attention to it. Nope I don't remember the ice bowl. I didn't become a Cowboy fan until Superbowl X.
Yup! Walt Disney on at 6 p.m., followed by The Monkees at 7 p.m. then My Three Sons at 7:30 and Ed Sullivan at 8 - on a Sunday night! Bonanza was in there too, just not sure in what order - I think it was at 9 p.m.
I remember Captain Kangaroo and other kids' shows - Mr. Dressup was the Canadian version of Mr. Rogers and Romper Room, and The Friendly Giant (originally launched in Wisconsin I think, but then was moved here). Anyone living in upper New York State might remember Rocketship 7 in the mornings - out of Buffalo with Dave Thomas and Mr. Beeper, and Promo The Robot. They used to show cartoons and Superman episodes at 3 p.m. on "Commander Tom" (as long as our housekeeper wasn't watching "Edge Of Night") ;)
OMG - my life is flashing before my eyes here......!

Its not really a big deal, I remember some things from when I was little, and I know people who remember TONS of stuff from when they were a baby

PZelda 07-12-2005, 12:05 AM it's called having a good memory. tobacco isn't a drug.
Exactly. Some people just have one hell of a memory, like you and me. Some others just don't remember a lot after kindergarten. It varies from person to person.
I'm glad I was born in the mid-80's because I have a pretty excellent memory of growing up in the late 80's and I remember what life was like in the early 90's.
TripperFan 07-12-2005, 12:20 AM I remember watching Captain Kangaroo. I used to watch that every morning. Another cartoon I remember from around that time was H.R. Puffinstuff.
OMG - I was SO in love with Jack Wild!!!!! Meanwhile, I saw him a couple of years ago and we're talking five miles of BAD road there!!! I heard he had an alcohol problem after - no wonder - have you seen it recently? I watched it when N@N had it or something last summer - boy, somebody was really puffin' on the hukkah when they dreamt that show up!!
Was it Captain Kangeroo, Mr. Greenjeans and - was it Teddy Bear?
Ags2000 07-12-2005, 12:29 AM I was born in the late 70's and the earliest memory I have was when I was 13 months old. I had to get a BUNCH of shots b/c we were moving overseas. I can remember my sister and I arguing as only a 1 and 5 year on can, about who would go last. Man...those shots HURT...but we got the coolest suckers when we were finished.
I also remember ALOT about living over in Japan and we were there from the time I was about 1 until over 4.
It's possible to remember things from that young if it's powerful enough I guess. As for Raven...its probably more of b/c her life is all on tape.
D

Yep. Also Bunny Rabbit and Mr. Moose and his ping pong balls. That show was great. Or maybe I was easily amused.

All right... Bonanza.
You're right about the time. Here is its broadcast history:

Sept. 1961 to Sept. 1972, Sunday, 9:00-10:00 PM

He's had it rough alright. I heard recently that he had to have part of his tongue removed due to cancer or something. Have you ever seen him in Oliver! he was great in that movie.
~*Emma*~ 07-12-2005, 06:21 AM I remember breaking my arm falling off a mini-tramp and I remember losing my favourite soft-toy Leo in Chadstone. :(
ABlairican Pie 07-12-2005, 08:53 AM I remember so many things before I was 4, I have a very good memory:
The Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was played repeatedly on the radio.
I was given a bath in the kitchen sink.
I had a cat named Robin.
Speaking of which, "Batman" was all the rage, we watched it two nights a week on t.v. We even had a toy Batmobile. :batman:
My earliest memories were that of a crummy house in West Seattle me, my mom and my brother lived in where I constantly felt like I was a constant burden to them. I felt afraid of them, for some reason.
At the age of 4, we moved to a housing project in West Seattle where we got a new kitten. It was so much fun--until these stupid neighbor kids took it and threw it up in the air. It dropped on the ground and died. :crying: Me and my brother were so upset--I was especially when these punks tried to blame ME for it!!
Bullwinkle was on t.v., so was Top Cat, and of course The Flintstones. The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, and The Twilight Zone. Me and my brother were always going on about the "Talky Tina" doll episode: "My name is Talky Tina, and I'm going to kill you!!"
We had a poodle named Richard (pronounced Ri-SHARD).
During the middle of the night, I got up and ate a saucepan full of cold potatoes. Oh, yummers. One time when I was 4, not having grasped the concept of Christmas, about a week or so before the Big Day, I went downstairs at the crack of dawn and opened all the presents under the tree! :tree: present: My mom and brother really got down on my case for that one!
We had a toy box with Mother Goose characters on it.
I stole a toy airplane from a store. I broke it in frustration when I saw my mother leave with a neighbor. I started crying due to mommy separation anxiety and took it out on my airplane. Another neighbor lady commented, "Awww, he's crying because he broke his airplane." Actually I broke my airplane because mommy went bye-bye and cried because of that. I could have had tons of fun with my stolen plane. :(
Quisp cereal was on the market. So was Quake. These two guys were in a duel to the death trying to show whose cereal was better than the other.

True, considering I was in the womb for part of 1984. :)
Living In a '70's Dream 07-12-2005, 09:06 AM I can rememeber 1972; my family and I flew back east to visit relatives, but I also remember when I was two years old that I (someone how) got a hold of a hose and started to play in the mud and the water. But for remembering the 1970s..I do remember thinking why men (back then) would want to have long hair like girls (this was a time period where a lot of men grew their hair out), but I also remember the television shows from the mid-1970s. I remember watching an episode of McCloud with my mom... :)
TripperFan 07-12-2005, 09:44 AM  Yea I saw it when it was on last year and I wondered what I had ever seen in that show but I think it was the puppets. It really appealed to 4 and 5 year olds.

THAT'S it!! Mr. Moose (gotta be a Canadian thing)! I loved him! Bunny rabbit kinda freaked me out - never spoke! lol
Well we ALL must have been easily amused - everyone I talk to our age just loved that show. I remember Johnny Carson coming out with a line of suits in the mid-seventies that look like the Captain's!! I have pics of my dad in a brown suit with white overstitching on it. The only thing worse than a suit like Herb Tarlick, was one that looks like Captain Kangaroo's!!
I've heard rumours that H.R. Puffin'nStuff WAS a reference to puffing something but who knows. I remember when I eventually learned to play flute that I "nicknamed" mine Freddie - and always dreamt of having a gold flute encrusted with diamonds on the keys.
TripperFan 07-12-2005, 09:45 AM All right... Bonanza.
You're right about the time. Here is its broadcast history:

Sept. 1961 to Sept. 1972, Sunday, 9:00-10:00 PM

YAY - I did get it! I was thinking around '68-'69 so it would have been on at the 9 p.m. timeslot. Nice to know I have a few brain cells left! ;)
TripperFan 07-12-2005, 09:48 AM He's had it rough alright. I heard recently that he had to have part of his tongue removed due to cancer or something. Have you ever seen him in Oliver! he was great in that movie.
Oh yah - I saw Oliver! just last year again. He was so sweet in that (now I even remember singing, "Where Is Love" in grade 3 choir).
Doesn't surprise me if he got mouth cancer. I'm sure he was a heavy, heavy smoker too. He's even said that if it weren't for acting, he would have probably ended up in jail.
vienna waits 07-12-2005, 09:48 AM i think everyone has some memories from when they were little but it is different to actually say that you can truly remember what life was like.
TripperFan 07-12-2005, 09:50 AM The Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was played repeatedly on the radio.
Oh wow - now that you mention that, I remember that SO well! My brother also had all the Beatles 45's and we'd play it non-stop. I had a big crush on one of his friends and I'd run up to the guy and grab his hand and hold it. He must have thought I was nuts - I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 at the time.
I could still draw the layout of the house we were living in too.
Cactus Jack 07-12-2005, 11:50 AM I remember having babysitters a lot, British ones, I remember going to Seaside a lot, in Flroida, still do, hmmm I dont remember anything from when I was 4, I can remember stuff from maybe 1994/95 on though , my parents may remember stuff, but I wont, I remember a lot from like the mid to late 90s , I wanst 4 though
dawsongirl 07-12-2005, 03:34 PM I'm having a discussion about Raven Saymone talking about the year of 1989 on VH1 I love the 80's. This was the year she was only 3 years old so how much could she have known. I don;t remember anything from the age of 3. I think I can go back to the age of 6. But who remembers anything from when they were only 3? Especially about music or clothes. Raven is a weirdo
Hell, they had Kelly Rowland talking about the 70s on I Love the 70s...like she hardly there even.
dawsongirl 07-12-2005, 03:37 PM Anyway, I remember when I was 3, I was sitting on the couch and my mom was dusting the brick fireplace mantle with a feather duster. Then the mantle fell apart.
Stormtracker TF 07-12-2005, 04:08 PM My earliest memories are from when I had just turned 2.
Mikado 07-12-2005, 04:14 PM Oh wow - now that you mention that, I remember that SO well! My brother also had all the Beatles 45's and we'd play it non-stop. "I had a big crush on one of his friends and I'd run up to the guy and grab his hand and hold it. He must have thought I was nuts - I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 at the time."
.
Awwwww that is sooo cute
Mr. Television 07-12-2005, 04:25 PM I can rememeber 1972; my family and I flew back east to visit relatives, but I also remember when I was two years old that I (someone how) got a hold of a hose and started to play in the mud and the water. But for remembering the 1970s..I do remember thinking why men (back then) would want to have long hair like girls (this was a time period where a lot of men grew their hair out), but I also remember the television shows from the mid-1970s. I remember watching an episode of McCloud with my mom... :)
Thinking back now I do remember a few things when I was 3. I remember playing in my little swimming pool we had out in the front yard. Also I had gotten some sort of virus and everyone thought I was going to die. I don't have strong memories of that but I remember being in the hospital.
Mikado 07-12-2005, 04:26 PM My second earliest memory was indeed when i was 4...Me and the girl next door Jackie went to the dump, and played house in a refrigerator carton ( I knew this happened, cause someone took a picture ) ...my earliest memory is not connected to any pictures, but even to this day , i can see in my mind, the night in '63 that my Dad's '48 Pontiac died in my grandmother's driveway. ( I was 2 1/2 or so, at the time )
I can remember my uncle's '50 Pontiac parked in front of Dad's , the dash of Dads car...the car's engine whirring then dying, never to return to life, and my Dad yelling a streak at "Josephine"< the name he gave the car ....then me looking up at Granmas house through the car window, wishing i was there, instead of in the car with this ranting maniac! ( The car became scrap metal after that night, I expect, we wouldnt have another car until '65 , when Dad had scraped up enough $ to buy a '60 Beetle....when the movie Love Bug came out, the VW dealer ( who lived next door ) gave me and my brother a bunch of "Love Bug" flowers the dealership was giving away in a promotion, we quickly pasted them to Dad's bug... He spent the next month or so driving a flower power Bug around town, no doubt imbarrassed as all h***, the car went in for a paint job, soon after! ^_^ hehe )
ps. not to be too much of a letdown, but, please send your wishes to my Dad, he has cancer and writing this story makes me think of him, love you Dad . ( shoot, my eyes are watering here )
Dean Winchester 07-12-2005, 06:20 PM I'm 25.
I remember watching Diff'rent Strokes, Gimme A Break and The Facts Of Life when I was 4. I remember going up to my older sisters room while she was listening to Culture Club and Madonna records (and I was definately four because she moved out of the house by the end of 1984). I remember small things from back then, like my older brother taking me grocery shopping, and being at a preschool, and stuff like that.
PZelda 07-12-2005, 06:28 PM My earliest memories are from when I had just turned 2.
You just reminded me.
I'm pretty positive this is my first memory...if not, I don't know what it is. I remember Christmas of 1986 and I was 16 months old at that time. My sister got a gigantic dollhouse that Christmas that my grandpa built for her (we still have it), and I remember playing with her dollhouse...it was a pretty neat one. We had a lot of fun playing with our dolls in that dollhouse :)
Ags2000 07-14-2005, 11:39 AM i think everyone has some memories from when they were little but it is different to actually say that you can truly remember what life was like.
I can remember what life was like for me from before 4. From the time we moved to Japan until we left, I had to know where my bag was. We had a little closet that was under the stairs that they only thing in there were 6 bags all of different color. From the time I can remember, I was taught that if anything happened and we were evacuated to take MY BAG ONLY and leave. (Now granted I was never left by myself but I had to know which was mine incase a babysitter was there or something)
I can remember the Japanese people being SO friendly...most of the time. THe protests they had were very well maintained. They had to get a permit that said they would protest from this time to this time at such and such location.
I can remember going down to the docks to wait for dad's ship to FINALLY make it to port (gotta tell ya how hard that was to be able to see dad and him still be several hours away b/c of how slow they go into port). :) I can remember one time, the press were all over b/c of a protest about the type of ships in port or something, and the military had been asking all the families to please just say no comment. So of course mom told us kids the same thing. My sister and I were climbing on some metal structure when a reporter came up and asked us something like "Are you waiting for your dad" and we did what we had been told...we said no comment and then went running over to mom to tell her. I'm sure that reporter STILL laughs about it to this day.
For me, life was fun before 4. My days consisted of playing over a John John's, playing at the playground on top of the hill (seemed like a mountain to me). Then of course when we were actually at home we would run through the kitchen while mom and our momasan were making lumpia nd still some :) Man those were the days.
D
Zions Mother 08-02-2005, 05:48 AM I remember my first day of preschool at the age of 4. I had just turned 4 a month prior. My mother drove me and my neighbor Rufus to school that day. I cried and did not want my mother to leave me after she walked us to the classroom.
My mother's sister taught special education in the same building, so when my half day was over, I would spend the rest of the school day in her classroom.
After school my aunt and I would walk to her house which was about 3 blocks from the school.
I remember when I was 3 years old, my sister was in college at Penn State and she preferred to go all year round so in the summer, she stayed in a suite with her sororers, my sister would have my parents leave me her at Penn State and she and her sororers would alternate watching me between their classes.
It was so cool and they spoiled me which is probably why I can remember.
Rachel3118 08-02-2005, 11:45 PM It's always hard to tell if something from when you were little was a memory or if you heard about it or saw it in a picture.
I don't think the difference between 14 and 20 would make a huge difference in what you remeber from then.
All I remeber, that I can think of now, is the day I hit my head on the fireplace and had to go to the hospital.
I doubt that she actually remebered thoose things. It is probably just what they told her to say.
Brent88 08-03-2005, 12:35 AM Just faintly remember taking naps during the afternoon at pre-school(I usually didn't sleep... just stared at the clock  ). When I did sleep, I SLEPT. They had real trouble waking me then. :p
Hollow 08-03-2005, 02:49 AM Just faintly remember taking naps during the afternoon at pre-school(I usually didn't sleep... just stared at the clock  ). When I did sleep, I SLEPT. They had real trouble waking me then. :p
we didn't take naps in preschool, but i went to this daycare when i was about four where we did. i never went to sleep, i always stared around and hummed and this lady kept telling me to stop humming but i didn't so haha. **** you bitch. if i want to hum, i'm gonna hum, and there ain't nothing EWE can do about it. :snob:
Dutabi84 08-03-2005, 12:23 PM Hmm, I have memories of when I was 3 or less. I would stand in my crib, immitating a contestant on Scrabble, the game show. I also recall head-butting my mom on her bed pretty hard, she must have been tickling me or something.
I also remember getting a bunch of Hot Wheels cars for my 4th birthday.
David 08-03-2005, 12:37 PM I have random vague memories.
- Being scared of a "dead end" sign while I was jogging with my Mom the day before I started pre-k.
- Going to Pizza Hut when my friend's Mom picked me up after Pre-k.
- Letting my Pre-k teacher tie my shoe every day.
- tearing my bugs bunny stuffed animal apart when i thought he was a girl. -- weird memory, but my Mom even confirmed it for me.
MsOrange 08-03-2005, 01:07 PM i remember getting on my 3-wheeler and driving on the Hwy.. I told my parents I was going to "work" and they thought I was going on the porch where I use to play "grocery story" (my mom worked at a grocery store back then). But no, i got out on the Hwy. I remember my dad jerkin' me up and whipping me all the way back home  I can remember driving a little, then having to pull over to let cars pass: i was going against traffic.
MsOrange 08-03-2005, 01:08 PM ^^ and i am 20
YoliUSA 08-03-2005, 04:46 PM I have an amazing memory (that's what people say) so I remember plenty of things:
-watching "Beauty and the Beast" in the movie theater
-watching "MMC", "Kids, Incorporated", and some other shows on the Disney Channel
-playing NES in a friend's garage during a trip to Denver
-going to the beach and riding on my uncle's old boat
That's some of the stuff I remember. :)
TheGreatPretender 08-03-2005, 09:18 PM - Going to see the "The Lion King" in theaters and insisting that I take my stuffed Simba with me
- Pre school and how I would bring all my stuffed animals there and my mom worked upstairs on the floor above me and I could scream when kids where picking on me and she would come running down (which was quite often). and there was this big playground and I would go on the monkeybars alot. and I would never sleep during nap time.
-Going to the beach and getting sucked under a wave and my dad having to come and rescue me
- Another beach memory when my oldest brother built a gigantic sand turtle and I just helped with the head.
IMakeBurgers 08-03-2005, 09:47 PM I remember when I was in kindergarten, we would take naps on little cots, and I would put my hands under me b/c they would get cold. This girl in my class told her mom, and her mom told my teacher, and my teacher made me stop doing it. I stopped, even though I didn't really see why there was a problem..My hands were cold, I couldn't help that. Well, as I got older, I realized that they thought I was touching myself and they didn't want that happening. MY HANDS WERE COLD! Weird people.
