Lately I've been having knee problems. My dad has bad knees and every once in a while, he has to wear a knee brace. I've heard that they're not hereditary, but you never know. Do you know?

As far as I know not really. Both my dad and I have bad knees, but for different reasons. He messed up his knees playing baseball when he was younger and softball when he was older. I messed up my knees playing basketball.

He had surgery when he slid into a base wrong, I had surgery when a girl kept kicking me until she knocked my kneecap out of place and tore my cartlidge.

We both have problems, but its not because of hereditary.

I'm not sure if they are or not, but SO many people in my family have bad knees. At least 5 people in my family have had knee replacements, and there are others who have knee problems.

I don't think just "bad knees" are heriditary, but if there's arthritis, then it can be. My knees "go out" every so often - I'll just fall in a heap on the floor! :lol: Arthritis runs in our family though and I have 3 versions of it.

Do yours hurt or do they just go out? Wait 'till you hit 40 - you should see some of the crazy things they do then! ;) :lol:

My parents never had knee problems, but my dad had early problems with osteoporosis, which I am now experiencing.

Oh you've got that with the cartilage - yeah, I've got a couple of friends with that and have had that othroscopic(sp?) surgery too. Makes me cringe just thinking of it!!

Yah, that probably isn't hereditary. My knees have RA, but I've got osteo in my left thumb and a couple of fingers.
