View Full Version : Episodes that surprized you
chipsandsoda 07-09-2005, 03:56 PM What are some episodes of Family Matters that really surprized you a lot when you saw them? Here are some of mine.
The Return Of Myrtle Urkel in Season 7: It had been 5 years since the Myrtle charachter was on the show, I never thought I would see her again.
The return of Aunt Oona in Season 8: Aunt Oona was another charachter who I figured would only be a one time guest. I was surprize to see her return, and also surprized at the amount of weight she had put on.
The episode in the 9th Season when Eddie decides to be a Cop: After his reaction towards being a police officer in that Season 2 episode. This really took me by surprize. I never pictured Eddie as the Cop type. In fact I always saw him and his father (Carl) as exact opposites.
The Prom episode from Season 7 when Steve and Laura kissed: This is something that I never ever thought would happen and it did. I remember how Happy I was for Steve when I saw this. I even cheered out loud.
SimpsonsFan 07-11-2005, 09:52 AM The season 6 eps where Rachel made her 1st reappearance.
Laura accepted Steve's proposal to marry him
SimpsonsFan 07-14-2005, 09:53 AM Season 6 clip eps show Judy.
I would also have to say the episode in season 6 when Rachel suddenly reappears.
SimpsonsFan 07-27-2005, 08:09 AM Stefan's first appearance.
The Christmas episode in season 9 when they finally explained Rachel's disappearance.
SimpsonsFan 07-27-2005, 09:55 AM The transformation chamber, urk-pad, and all of those other inventions that I never would have expected to see on FM.
chipsandsoda 07-27-2005, 08:58 PM Another one that surprized me is the one when Maxine and Waldo got together. I never pictured the 2 of them as a potential couple.
MikeLutton 07-31-2005, 01:37 AM wait they finally explained rachel.s disappearance am what did they say what happend to her.?

Yeah in the season 9 Christmas episode, Harriette told Richie that Aunt Helen from Detroit was feeling better and she will be able to come for Christmas. Then it was a blizzard and Rachel called and said she could not come because her flight was cancelled. So Eddie drove all the way to Detroit to go get Rachel so she could spend Christmas with Richie and the Winslows.
SimpsonsFan 08-01-2005, 11:56 AM I havn't seen that eps for a while why was she in Detroit exactly?
I havn't seen that eps for a while what why was she in Detroit exactly?
I guess Rachel was in Detroit caring for the sick aunt. Harriette said that Aunt Helen was feeling better so she can come for Christmas. That is all that was said.
chipsandsoda 08-01-2005, 05:05 PM It sounded like an allright explination. But it seemed rather odd that Rachel had been taking care of the same sick Aunt on and off again for 4 years. I mean don't you think she'd want to return to her son, or at least have him come with her after a while?

You have a point but that explanation is certainly better than none. It drove me crazy how they went through seasons 5, 7 and 8 without explaining where Rachel was. Also when Rachel came back in season 6 for a couple of episodes you did not know where she was the entire season prior. The Winslows were raising Richie and none of the characters even mentioned his own mother like she did not even exist. You would think Richie would talk about missing his mother or they even could have written in Rachel calling him at least once in one of those seasons.
chipsandsoda 08-01-2005, 10:14 PM Your'e right about that. I always thought they should have mentioned Rachel's absense in a season 5 episode. Just one refference in one episode would have been just fine with me. Just like the way they explained Waldo's absense in that one Season 8 episode.

Exactly, at least one reference would have been just fine. And the writers had opportunity to do so. Did you see the episode when Harriette had an interview and she told Carl he had to watch Richie? Carl proceeded to say Laura, Eddie, or Mother Winslow can watch him without a single reference to Rachel and where she was. They could have mentioned something then but they left us hanging. There was also one in season 8 when Carl and Harriette could not go to the New Edition concert because they had to watch Richie and 3J. Carl and Harriette talk about how they did not see themselves raising children at this point in their lives. Again they could have mentioned where Rachel was and why she could not raise Richie herself.

That's funny, I didn't even realize that before, and what are they complaining about, they didn't take care of Judy.
passionsfan79 08-06-2005, 10:46 PM not sure if this has been posted or may not even be a suprise but in season 8 where laura finally goes out with steve and says yes to marry him

You mean season 9.
DukeDevils9192 08-09-2005, 03:17 PM The most surprising thing for me was the racism episode where the n-word is actually shown on screen. Very cool for the show to be honest about racism and not sugarcoat it, but kind of surprised to see it.
SimpsonsFan 08-22-2005, 12:09 PM Yeah, I was a little surprised to see it too, but I'm kind of glad they did.
Actually the episode when Harriette and Rachel's father appears surprised me the first time I saw it. I missed it when it originally aired on ABC. Then I caught in reruns and it surprised me mainly because I did not see it before.
SimpsonsFan 08-31-2005, 08:10 AM I'm surprised no one mentioned it before, but how about the Stevil Halloween eps.
