View Full Version : Was there any use for Crystal?

I mean, she really served no crucial purpose to the show. She was supposed to be Roseanne's best friend, but she really didn't play a significant part of Roseanne's life. Jackie had already taken the best friend part even though she's Roseanne's sister. With Nancy you kind of need her for comic relief, she was Roseanne's "dumb friend," but she also had a groundbreaking role as the token bisexual character of the show. It seemed all Crystal did was cry about her life, she also seemed very jealous of Jackie since Roseanne always put her before Crystal.

I must say I was really happy when season 5 rolled around when Natalie West (Crystal) was no longer credited in the opening credits.

btw - I heard Roseanne and Natalie West got into a fight behind the scenes which might explain her absence from the show season 5 on.

I was glad when they wrote Crystal off the show she was too whiny.

Crystal was a zero character. I too was glad when she was finally written out.

I liked Crystal, although she didn't add anything to the show.

I liked Crystal.

She was easy to poke fun at. I must admit she is not my favourite, but who can hate a lady who has a husband buried in a bridge? Not I.

I liked Crystal, she wasnt that bad, they should of left her in the entire show as i would of liked to of seen where her relationship with Ed went. :)

I couldn't stand Crystal. What was with that weird stuttering thing she did? I think she was supposed to be quirky, but she just annoyed me.

She served more purpose when she married Ed, but even that was weird. I mean, Ed's son was her age! I think that she was right to tell Dan the truth about his mother, though. That was about the only thing of worth that she did, anyway.

There was no use for her.

I liked Crystal. I can see to a point where really all of Roseanne's friends from the early years didn't really need to be there. Yet, I thought it was nice for a mom on tv to have a support system outside of the family for a change.

I liked Crystal but over time her character really had no purpose

Well i guess that is why she was not in later episodes, but dont you think it would of been nice to have them all on the last episode they did, afterall they were all part of the show at some point. Well we know Arnie would never of been invited

The reason why i liked Crystal was because she was always a good friend to Roseanne.

Every show needs a ditz and Crystal was it! I think she was so stupid she was funny. Like the time she bought a card for Becky because she farted in school? However, I feel she was written out at the right time along with Ed. Speaking of Ed and Crystal, that was a nasty hookup! EWW!!

I thought it was gross at first (Ed/Crystal) but they kinda grew on me, they both wanted love and they gave each other that, that's all that matter's right? :)

I liked Crystal too. She was funny. I could do without Dan's father. Maybe it was the episodes, but I pass on those episodes when Dan's father appears.

I could never warm up to Ed, I think I touched on Dan's feelings for his father so no matter what he did, I could care less.

IMO, it was never a good match. I don't think Ed would be good in any committed relationship because he's too "married" to his job. If you recall, after the wedding, he left and it seems he came back long enough to knock Crystal up and then leave for the road yet again just as Dan told her would happen. JMO.

Crystal got on my nerves, with that stupid southern accent--she was from Illinois, for crying out loud! I know, she told Jackie in one episode in defense of her accent that her father was from Arkansas, but she was still annoying. I guess she had a few funny moments, but not many. It was weird that they just dropped her and Ed like they did, though, since Ed WAS Dan's father and they lived in the same town. They didn't even have occasional appearances after Roseanne won the lottery.
