By now, there shoulda been a few. Last year we got news that Diff'rent Strokes, Alf, 227 and Too Close for Comfort were all coming in later summer/early fall.


This year...nothing. No new show releases for 80's family comedies? And I'm not just talking about season 2 sets of those shows...I'm taking about season 1 releases of several that have been really high/ rumored to be going on DVD soon.



By now I expected to see at least Silver Spoons and Facts of Life. Sony was interested, but says they want to make sure fans want Silver Spoons on DVD, so people need to go to the site on Sony and vote there for it. Soon it will be released if this happens...hopefully. Aside from that, I don't know what is up with Facts of Life.

And where are Season's 3 and 4 of Punky Brewster? Is no company wanting to release these? No rumors?

Cosby Show, A Different World and Roseanne will all be out in the next six months for sure. Don't be too surprised if you see Silver Spoons, Designing Women, One Day At A Time and further seasons of Diff'rent Strokes and The Golden Girls before Christmas as well.

I would love to know the status of Family Ties myself. Don't worry about Punky Season 2 was just released a few months ago, wait for it.There's a bunch of great 80s show I would to come out on DVD.

Werewolf - Never saw it but have heard great things about this short-lived Fox show. Right now there's a petition to get the Horror Channel to rebroadcast it. It's Your Move - Also never saw this but i'm a huge fan of Jason Bateman bceause of Arrested Development. This show just sounds amazing.

it's strange how obscure this show has become, when you consider that it lasted five seasons. My mom used to love to watch that.

Only prob is, Universal hasn't really done much for their sitcom catalog yet, so it'll probably be awhile before we get to see Nell (RIP) again

I used to watch all 3 of those shows. They were all great. Its to bad Werewolf and Its Your Move didn't last longer.

Warner Bros. said they were considering a release of Growing Pains, I hope they do release in time for the 20th anniversary of the show in Sept. :D

I doubt they'd have it out that soon. I could foresee a late 2005/very early 2006 release for GP.

Universal's released The Munsters and Dream On, but that's about all I can think of for their comedy department, unless one wants to count Monk as a comedy.

I agree about It's Your Move. Many people are now curious about that show after seeing Jason Bateman in Arrested Development. I've e-mailed several companies with requests to release it on DVD, along with links to IYM info sites on the web. I'd buy it for sure.

As for Punky Brewster, I'm hoping that whomever owns the rights to seasons 3 and 4 (Sony?) will see fit to release them on DVD. Shout! started the series, with good sales, and it only makes sense to finish it.

Well at least we know DS S2 is coming end of Jan. don't even get me started in Silver Spoons. Sony needs to take lessons from Universal and give fans what they want.

If Universal heard me hopefully they heard me on Voyagers & Tales of the Gold Monkey. Those are my other 2 Universal titles that I really hope to see on DVD one day. Not to mention season sets of The Incerdible Hulk.

What kind of ticks me off is that sales for DS were supposedly bad but yet it gets a Season 2, but no sign of Who's the Boss Season 2 and sales for that were supposedly bad too.

I don't know if you're a fan of DS or not, but unless you're one of the lucky few who gets Comcast, there is no way to see the show currently. I am beyond happy we're getting season 2 because season 1 is fairly weak and is basically just an introduction to the show, season 2 has a lot of classic Strokes episodes, and if Sony stops with season 2, it will definately be more satisfying than just having season 1.

Unlike DS fans, I'd argue that WTB fans have the upper hand for now, they can tape the episodes from N@N to hold them over until season 2. There are so many shows that Sony treats like gold that you could vent your anger out against that are a lot more played out than Diff'rent Strokes is. I mean, DS was a much bigger hit than What's Happening for example, yet the entire WH series is out on DVD and is on TV Land every night, why not vent your frustration towards something like that instead of DS, a show that lasted on N@N for about three months despite being #1 when they had it, and lasted nearly 200 episodes but yet only the first season is available in any form to people without Comcast.

Oh I'm not mad at DS, I'm mad at Sony, cause they said sales weren't great for both shows, but DS gets a second release, so I hope this means that WTB might get more releases in the future :)

oh ok, best thing to do is cross your fingers that DS season 2 does well enough that Sony decides WTB is worth a second chance.

This lack of interest Sony seems to have towards 80's sitcoms (I know DS started in 78, but I think most people consider it an 80's sitcom) has me worried about how Universal is going to treat Gimme A Break when it comes out. It's been about seven years GAB left USA and I cannot wait to own it on DVD, but I have this worry that we're not going to see more than season one for that (granted, it was never as good with Joey Lawrence, but at least I'd like the first 2 seasons on DVD). Sony has a fantastic 80's catalog but they don't seem to treat it as quite the priority that they do the 70's shows (and then the 70's shows I want like Maude and One Day At A Time aren't treated as priorities either)

they need to release S2of 227 and WTB.

Paramount need to start releasing DVDs like Bosom Buddies, Family Ties, Webster, Duet, and Day By Day. And Universal need to release Amen, Out of This World, My Secret Identity, Coach, Major Dad, Harry and The Hendersons, Weird Science, and Something So Right.

umm... you've been around on the Sitcoms Online board... I think by now you would know you can trust Pav, wasn't he the one who broke Diff'rent Strokes season 2 a month before TVShowsonDVD? Same with basically every Sony release this past year

And as much as people rely on tvshowsondvd.com, they don't know everything. A lot of the info they do post they get from people like Pavan supplying it. Even I emailed them a month ago about Miracle's Boys being released and they still haven't indicated that there's a release available. Tvshowsondvd.com ain't all that.
