I just had to rant, and what a better place. :D

My mom and I are in our Super Wal-Mart tonight and I notice that they have the Self-Checkouts now. So for a change, we decide to check them out. OMG...WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP. Okay, so after you scan your item, you HAVE TO put it in a sack. The sacks sit on some kind of sensor or something and if you don't put the can of beans in a sack, you can't scan anything else. Or, they have this option...SKIP BAGGING. However, if you press that, you can't bag the item at all, because if you then put it in a bag, it tells you there's an unexpected object in the bagging area and it won't let you go on until you take it off (my troble item was a bag of bagels  ). Then I did something else wrong and we couldn't continue until the girl came over and punched in a code. I thought the damn things was showing me how to bag, so I kept skipping and then it kept yelling at me! And of course, no one was there to help you cuz people at Wal-Mart are so friendly and helpful... pissed:

Dumbest thing I've ever seen. Waiting in line for a checker would have been easier. Gawd that store SUCKS.

I want to shoot myself in the face every time I set foot inside a Wal****ingcrapmart, so I make it a point to go only in extreme emergencies (never) or if I need more economy-sized coffee creamer (rarely). The parking lot and the store would make ANYONE want to shoot themselves in the face, too. HORRID.

Now they're talking about opening a Supercenter!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *throws rotten eggs and tomatoes at Wal****ingcrapmart*

However...Nothing can compare to Kcrapmart. Especially the one in the last town I lived in. omg: THAT was even worse than Wal****ingcrapmart. *shudder*

I hear ya, girl. I do.

OMG, yeah...the parking lot. What a ****ing pigsty! There were carts everywhere cars were supposed to be. And the damn corrals were full. Apparently someone is too ****ing lazy to get carts!

I didn't have this trouble at Target earlier in the day. ALL HAIL TARGET!!

Walmart here in Warren is about to close its store it built about 12 years ago. The reason? Yeah, to build a new Supercenter right across the street! This is what this country is coming to. building new buildings, using them for a decade then closing them down, yeah that makes sense. I know people who have cars older than that!

I love Wal Mart. The one by my house is always clean and kept up and the employees are always really nice. I can buy stuff there for practically half the price compared to other places. As far as those self checkouts go, they don't have them at the Wal Mart here but Farmer Jack has them and I don't like them either. A big hassle. I'd rather have the cashier do it for me.

I agree. The Walmart near me is a great place to shop. I can save about 1/4 of what I would pay if I went grocery shopping at any of the other big name grocery stores. I'm not crazy about the self checkouts. It's just another machine that is talking away a job from somebody. It's going to be like the Terminator. The Machines Are Taking Over!

I love self checkouts. They're my favorite things ever.

But I have mixed feelings about WalMart. We used to only have one and it was located near the..erm...less nice part of town? If that makes sense..and I HATED going in there because it was dirty and disgusting and horrible. But they recently built one closer to where I live and it's not bad at all. I still like Target better though/

Oh good lord. They want to build a Supercenter here like I mentioned, but the location of the current Walmart would never work for a Supercenter, because there are two grocery stores within 1.5 miles of each other. The Walmart is across the street from one of the grocery stores, in fact. So there's no doubt about it that they'll have to build the Supercenter somewhere.

KMart's big trouble these days is a lack of cashiers. I hate waiting in line at the BigK store on South Reynolds here in Toledo! The store's in good shapoe and it's in a good part of town, but......it's the same at the SuperKmart in mentor, Ohio (where I used to live): not enough cashiers. I do love Target, though.

I've had my share of problems with the self-checkout at Wal-Mart too.

The ONLY good thing about Wal-Mart is the low prices.

I prefer to go to Target or even K-mart.

the ones at Meijer suck too. Last week they had a "buy three Coke products, get two free" deal going on, and I had problems because the scanner didn't take the two off, and then the dumbass person in charge of the checkout lanes had no idea what the hell to do to the extent I actually took the soft drinks and went to a line I'd have to wait in because at least that checker would be competant.

I can find better prices at Meijer or sometimes even Kroger then at Wal-Mart.

Walmart is ok but crowded. I don't like self-checkouts anywhere. They are confusing to me, but it doesn't take much for me. ;)

The new Walmart supercenter just opened here, essentially across the road from the (not even TEN years) old regular one! A former neighbor of my husband's has worked for both of them and she even admits to hating the supercenter LOL!

The floor is concrete (slippery) and the ceiling is like 30 feet high (so that the insanely bright fluorescent lights do almost NO good). They no longer sell economy sizes of the name brand stuff I prefer to buy--which didn't amount to lots of things, but they also no longer carry their own brands of some of the things I was willing to substitute a "generic" for in order to save money. So either way, I am screwed!

Their prices for food are much higher than Kroger's too. (Side note: so are the prices at Meijer, at least at our nearest one in the next town.) And don't even get me started on self-checkout! Our Kroger was the first store around here to have it, and NO I will NOT even mess with that!

But yes, that does seem to be the mindset around here, too--tear it down! Had the school levy in our district passed, the first casualty would probably have been the elementary school my girls attend(ed)--God forbid, it is 75 YEARS OLD!

As for people who keep their cars for 10 years or more--sooo, you know my husband's family, huh? LOL!

We have a Mickey D's right in front of the Wal-Mart parking lot. They enjoy building huge buildings far back on a piece of land here and then putting smaller businesses in front of the big one.

As far as the prices, some things are a lot cheaper at Wal-Mart (I bought the Equate brand of nail polish remover at WM for 88 cents...then I bought the off brand stuff at Target for 99 cents, turned the bottle over, and saw the same coupany made both), but some things depend on sales. But I'd rather pay more for a nicer atmosphere and overall experience.

I agree re a nicer atmosphere--that is the main problem with our Walmart superstore, it has NONE LOL! The original one was not a whole lot better, but at least there was tile on the floor, the layout made sense, and the lighting was decent. Plus, the women's and men's fitting rooms were NOT right across from each other, as in the new one OMG!

I like Target too, but I also find it to be too expensive for many things--enough that I can't justify driving a half hour to get there (it is in the next town east of us, as is the Meijer), unless I can't find the thing anywhere else.

Our Mickey D's is not in the immediate vicinity of the Walmart, but not being in someone else's parking lot gives it the opportunity to be a gigantic eyesore with a huge, filthy indoor play area...and the dining room isn't much cleaner.

The "smaller buildings in the front of a parking lot" phenomenon seems to have caught on BIGTIME in the other nearby large town here, south of us. Its main "highway" is way overgrown on both sides, and there is a traffic light by every entrance to a store's parking area!
