....Think of shows that change entirely from season to season....the best example i can come up with is with The Jeff Foxworthy Show...they changed networks and everything about the show changed...the wife, the sex of there newborn child, Jeff's carrer, his friends...everything changed (except the house), it wasnt even a point of bringing the show back with that many changes....got any more examples?.....

Roseanne-Changed House added new characters

That was explained though. And maybe it's just me, but I got a kick out of seeing Roseanne's house all remodeled. And then the finale brought it all back to normal.... I know I'm in a small minority, but I loved the last season of Roseanne.

"Roseanne" changed the house in the last season? I never knew that! But, I stopped watching it in the 3rd or 4th season, because it was getting too dramatic and soap opera-ish!

funny because I don't think the show really took off and found it's identity and voice until around the third and fourth seasons. The first few seasons were alright but it was "just another show about a family"

Mork And Mindy - got rid of Fred and Cora after season 1 (though both eventually came back) and changed the setting from a record store to a pizza place.

Happy Days - everything about the Cunningham house was different in seasons 1-2 and 3-11.

The Cosby Show - the living room was completely different after the first episode, and the kitchen was changed in season 8 (as many of the episodes actually dealt with it being worked on)

Diff'rent Strokes - the Drummond penthouse went through a renovation at the beginning of season 8 and never looked the same

The Doris Day Show - basically a different series every season

Ellen
Season 1 in 1994, the series was titled "These Friends of Mine." It starred Ellen DeGeneres with longer hair. Her three friends were Adam (Arye Gross), Holly (Holly Fulger) and Anita (Maggie Wheeler). Midway through the season, Anita is gone. Ellen's job at the bookstore goes from being mentioned to being seen. Joe (David Anthony Higgins) was added as the coffee guy at Buy the Book.

When "These Friends of Mine" returned for it's second year, it was now titled "Ellen." Holly was gone. Adam returned, sans beard. Paige (Joely Fisher) became Ellen's new best friend. Halfway through the season Audrey (Clea Lewis) became a fixture on the show.

When "Ellen" returned for a third year, more changes were made. Adam was only in the first five episodes, before moving to London. Ellen's cousin, Spence (Jeremy Piven) became her new roomate. Paige, Joe and Audrey were still there.

In the fourth season of "Ellen", hints about her sexuality were put into the show. Ellen was no longer the owner of the bookstore, she was manager. The owner was a recurring character. In one of the last episodes of the season, Ellen DeGeneres and Ellen Morgan came out of the closet. The series would never be the same.

The fifth season of "Ellen" started with Ellen moving from her apartment to a house. She left her job at the bookstore when the owner didn't approve of her sexuality. Paige, Spence, Audrey and Joe were now only seen on an occassional basis. Ellen got a girlfriend in Laurie (Lisa Darr).

Saved by the Bell: The New Class

Although the premise stayed the same, there were many cast changes in this series. Here's a look: (I'm using the character names only)

Season 1: 1993-1994
Scott Erickson
Weasel Wyzell
Tommy De Luca
Lindsay Warner
Megan Jones
Vicki Needleman
Mr. Belding

Bayside High looks just like it did in the original series. The new class seems to be carbon copies of the original class.

Season 2: 1994-1995
Brian Keller
Bobby Wilson
Tommy De Luca
Lindsay Warner
Megan Jones
Rachel Meyers
Mr. Belding
Screech Powers

At this point, Bayside High has been completely remodeled. Belding has a new office and Screech is now his assistant. The plots of the episodes are still the same silly storylines as the past.

Season 3: 1995-1996
Ryan Parker
R.J. Collins
Tommy De Luca
Lindsay Warner
Rachel Meyers
Maria Lopez
Mr. Belding
Screech Powers

Ryan Parker seems to be the most popular of the leading males in this series. He also last longer than the others.

Season 4: 1996-1997
Ryan Parker
Eric Little
Nicky Farina
Katie Peterson
Rachel Meyers
Maria Lopez
Mr. Belding
Screech Powers

With this season, Mr. Belding is the only cast member from the first season to still appear on the show. Because all of the characters are in different grades, the show can last longer than four years.

Season 5: 1997-1998
Ryan Parker
Eric Little
Nicky Farina
Katie Peterson
Liz Miller
Maria Lopez
Mr. Belding
Screech Powers

The first season with only one cast change - Liz in for Rachel.

Season 6: 1998-1999 / Season 7: 1999-2000
Tony Dillon
Eric Little
Nicky Farina
Katie Peterson
Liz Miller
Maria Lopez
Mr. Belding
Screech Powers

Seasons 6 & 7 are actually one season. NBC split them in half and aired them as two seasons. This makes the only two seasons with the same cast.

Sliders

It's not a sitcom, but the thread says "Shows".

In the first season, boy genius Quinn Mallory (Jerry O'Connell), his professor Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), his female friend from work Wade (Sabrina Lloyd) and Rembrandt (Cleavant Derricks), a guy just driving by, begin their sliding adventures. The four of them slide from dimension to dimension hoping to return home. Season two and the first half of three continued this plotline. However, in the last half of season three, Arturo is killed off, saving Quinn. Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) joined the three remaining sliders in persuit of the killer of both Arturo and Maggie's husband. In the finale, Quinn sends Wade and Rembrandt home. Then he and Maggie slide elsewhere.

When the series returned, it was a completley different show. Quinn, Rembrandt and Maggie had to leave their home world when Kromaggs (evil alien-like sliders) invaded it. Quinn found out he was not from the earth he was raised on and that he has a brother he never knew about. The trio soon hook up with Quin's brother Colin (Charlie O'Connell). Their new mission is to find Quinn and Colin's home world and get a weapon to fight off the Kromaggs.

The series came back for a fifth season to find Quinn and Colin destroyed in a sliding accident. Quinn was replaced by an alternate, which they just call Mallory (Robert Floyd). Dr. Diana Davis (Tembi Locke) joins the sliders trying to separate the two Quinns and bring back Colin. Everything fails and in the series finale, Rembrandt slides alone to his home world, after being warned by a seer that the next slide will bring immediate death. The show ended on that cliff-hanger.

Here's the cast list, just to sum it up.
Out of 87 episodes -
Quinn Mallory (episodes 1-69)
Professor Arturo (episodes 1-40)
Wade Wells (episodes 1-47)
Rembrandt Brown
Maggie Beckett (episodes 39-87)
Colin Mallory (episodes 53-69)
Mallory (episodes 70-87)
Dr. Diana Davis (episodes 70-87)

"Desiging Women"

This series suffered several cast changes through its run, Delta Burke and Jean Smart both left. Alice Ghostley became a regular, Meshac Taylor also became a regular.

imho, this series never recovered once Delta and Jean left, it went on a downward spiral... the character of BJ played by Judith Ivey was the start of an improvment, but by then it was far to late.

The Lucy Show - they never did an episode on what happened to the children or if Vivian's son even existed after Lucy moved to California

Mama's Family - Mama and Vint switched roles in the syndication years compared to the NBC years. Mama became smarter and wise while Vint became stupid and never understanding anything
