My Wife and Kids (the first three seasons were gold, as if it were TCS of the new millenium, then Junior got his girlfriend pregnant and asked everyone on the show to help him jump the shark)
But The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is my favorite. Family Matters and Cosby follow shortly behind.

FRESH PRINCE WINS!!!!!, Defintely the best Black Comedy of the 90's.
Brieannas21 07-05-2005, 01:15 AM Living Single, Martin, Hangin with Mr. Cooper, Roc (even though it didn't last that long), 227 (can that count? It ended in 1990), A Different World
jamesanthony 07-05-2005, 05:57 PM Different World was the best one if you ask me.
Kemistry 07-05-2005, 06:10 PM Family Matters
Roc
Fresh Prince
The Wayans Bros.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-05-2005, 06:42 PM When I read the title of the post I thought you meant "Black Comedy" as in that genre of comedy, not black like the race.
jamesanthony 07-06-2005, 02:16 PM Hangin With Mr Cooper and Smart Guy were also entertaining series. Cooper was good because it made no pretense of trying to be anything socioeducational or melodramatic like Moesha. It wasn't trying to educate the audience about anything and Mark Curry made the show. Smart Guy was for a Disney type of series pretty well done and they were smart to end it before it wore out its welcome.
Magnum 07-07-2005, 05:33 AM I just saw another thread, and I agree, ROC was one of the best black shows of the modern era. Nope, he was not a doctor, he was a janitor. It was more in line with reality. How many people are doctors? Very few. And how many people have jobs that kinda suck, but we do them anyways. Almost everyone. I liked ROC, he had a crappy job, but he had pride. I liked how he had his father living with him, and how he tolerated his brother. ROC was a feel good show.
rodwayne 07-07-2005, 11:00 AM For my money, none of thoes shows were good. They were all one joke plot sitcoms that did nothing but reinforce stereopypes(esspecially shows like The Hugleys).I don't even want to get into the other "farces" that were on in the 90's.
dlemond 07-07-2005, 11:07 AM Homeboys in Outer Space

The Fresh Prince
nlearfan 07-07-2005, 01:34 PM Fresh Prince

Roc was a decent show and they had real guts filming the episodes live for a while. I haven't seen it in years, but I say one episode recently where Roc was accidentally thrown in jail and it was great. I saw another episode where drug dealers moved in across the street and it was poor (it was like watching a poorly put together sermon and it wasn't funny at all), so the show had its ups and downs. I read in a book that FOx and Charles Dutton had a lot of fights over creative issues though.
Of the stuff on in this decade Bernie Mac is the best one. Cosby from 96-00 was OK but it doesn't hold a candle to his 84-92 show. Too many of the other shows go for cheap humor and/or are poorly written.
greg1184 08-06-2005, 05:23 AM Fresh Prince Bel-air is one of the best black sitcoms I have ever watched. Not only because it is funny, but because it is well written and acted. Phillip Banks's actor is outstanding. The whole crew had this incredible chemistry. They REALLY had alot of fun doing this show. There are funny and serious moments, and both are done so well. In addition we see this talented kid from philly grow up to become a man that will fulfill this talent.
It is fun to watch first the final episode of the series, then the first episode of the series and see how they contrast so greatly. The character development and depth in this show was excellent, especially towards the end. Its a shame it ended way too soon.

I think personally, A Different World, was the best black show because I felt it gave an insight to historical black colleges and they also dealt with social issues that were prevalent during that time. An example that stands out was when Tisha Campbell guest starred as a college student with AIDS.
Here's my pick:
A Different World and Roc.
I watched all the other shows on the list but afterwhile, they all started going down after a few seasons.
