Al Bundy is a Shoe Salesman and is unhappilly married to Peggy.Jack Malloy is a Used Car Salesman who is unhappilly married to Jenny

Kelly Bundy is the hot daughter who gets a lot of dates.Tiffany is a hot daughter who gets a lot of dates

Bud Bundy is a the son who doesn't really get a lot of dates.Ryan Malloy is the son who doesn't get a lot of dates

The only thing that is different is that they added another son, have a talking stuffed animal who Jack and the audience knows he can talk instead of a dog that only the only audience can hear what he's saying, the daughter is smart and the son is dumb also the daughter is a red head and the mom is a blonde

You have a great point! The only main difference to me is a talking puppet.

They were both created by the same guy. I love both shows, but I think I like "Unhappily" alittle more. They explain that the shows were alot alike on the "Married With Children: E! True Hollywood Story"

MWC was better but UEA was probably the best show on the wb during its early years.

Another difference is that on UEA is that Jack and Jenny are separated in the first season and then get back together.

both shows are really good, MWC is way better, and I think peope would watch UEA just to look at Nikki Cox

Was it a ripoff of MWC? Is the Pope catholic?

Even though it did resemble Married with Children a whole lot it still was a very funny show. It started failing when the mother left on the show. That almost never works out:o :(

Well when the Mother left, I believe Tiffani started college, and they brought in Barbera, I think that was the Blondes' name. And she was pretty funny too. LMAO. Tiff's Nemesis.

I think most of the male audience tuned in to both shows every week just to check out Nikki Cox on Unhappily Ever After and Christina Applegate on Married With Children. Both shows were funny, sometimes bordering on silly.
And, in my opinion, both shows had most of their success due to these two babes strutting around in revealing outfits. Both women had outgrown their characters at the end of the run for each of the series.

Yeah but to me Nikki Cox revealed alot more than kelly ever did. I watched it at a very young age so I dont think I watched it for the hot girls.

I don't think so,maybe a little, the children were more the characters with Jack and the talking puppet different to AL and Steve or Jefferson, plus their wasn't no peg or Marcie. It was just a good funny show, that didn't bore the crap out of ya with morals, political correctness and stupid issues like some Sit Coms. You watch Sit Coms to get away from education and political crap,if you want too see that and hear about it 24 hours a day watch Public access TV.

They were basically the same show, created by the same guy...the main difference? MWC was FUNNY while UHEA wasn't!

I agree that it did seem like a knockoff of Married With Children. It's like they just changed a few things and added a puppet. Really that puppet is the only difference in the two. It's basically the same concept and the same type of charactors. I'm not really a fan of either show though. I did, however, watch Married With Children when I was little though, but anymore I don't care for it...same with this show. It did give me a few laughs back in the day though.

Another resemblance was that both shows had old hit songs as opening themes. MWC had "Love and Marriage" by Frank Sinatra while UEA had "Hit the Road Jack" by Ray Charles.

It was for sure a rip off.It was a pretty good show though and Nikki was very hot back in the day.But it was no where near as good as married with children in my opionion. The main difference being Al Bundy.Who i think might be the most hillarious charechtor in sitcom history.

I liked both shows but MWC was better and funnier. Unhappily... was a weird show because they would go off on these weird rants. Did you ever notice that? I believe one of the weirdest things was that when on camera they admitted that the show was going down w/o the mother and the mother returned.

Unhappily... had more of a meanness and nastiness that made the Malloys much more unlikable than the Bundy's that there were copying.

I loved both shows as well.

Is "After" a knockoff? On a certain level, certainly. But the bunny puppet (a figment of the crazy dad's imagination) is certainly novel... and episodes like where Nikki got to drive weren't really done on "Married".

But at least there wasn't a similar format sitcom involving a guy who sold used shoes... :D

I get why people (https://www.thethings.com/90s-sitcoms-never-watch-no-matter-how-bored/) say that Unhappily Ever After (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031130641/http://www.jumptheshark.com/u/unhappilyeverafter.htm) is a Married...with Children (https://jdblogging4fun.wordpress.com/2016/03/20/married-with-children-vs-unhappily-ever-after/) knockoff (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.arts.tv/3lBaWVha-Fs). Both shows (https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aarong/from-andrew/wb/unhappily/about.html) to borrow from the TV Trash retrospective on UEA (https://rowdyc.com/tv-trash-unhappily-ever-after/) had a loser dad (Al/Jack), a shrew of a mom (Peggy/Jenny), a hot (http://popcultureaddictlifeguide.blogspot.com/2013/03/unhappily-ever-after.html) and conceited daughter (Kelly/Tiffany), and a brainless son (Bud/Ryan). I suppose that Ross, the third Malloy child is Seven.
