Hi! Can someone tell me why Danny calls Kathy "Clancy" sometimes? At first I thought it was her maiden name, but now I know her maiden name was O'Hara. Thanks for any replies!

MrWarmth 06-30-2005, 01:46 PM It's been a while since I watched that show but I think she was Irish and he called her nicknames. He even called her "Irish' sometimes, I think. I don't think she ever called him "Lolac" though. gidgetgrape 06-30-2005, 06:04 PM Thank you so much! I wouldn't have figured that out on my own. I just looked up Clancy on an Irish Names website and found out it means "red-headed fighter." It all makes sense now. Thanks again! :) MrWarmth 06-30-2005, 06:08 PM [bows humbly] stevea 09-23-2014, 02:41 PM One interesting thing about this, is that it started on Marjorie Lord's first appearance. They were having words about Danny not going upstairs to see Rusty, and Danny says , "Look, Clancy....." So on it went for 7 more seasons of Clancy, Irish, coffee spitting, and 'Ehs' with the arm gesture. Can someone tell me why Danny calls Kathy "Clancy" sometimes? At first I thought it was her maiden name, but now I know her maiden name was O'Hara. Thanks for any replies! Kathy's maiden name was Daly. Her deceased first husband was O'Hara. Once, though, Terry said Kathy's maiden name was O'Hara but Kathy's father was Mr. Daly (played by William Demarest). Danny called Kathy "Clancy" because her ancestors were from Ireland and Clancy is a well-known Irish clan and family name. See above explanations. gidgetgrape 10-01-2014, 09:16 PM Thanks for all the replies everyone! They were all interesting and helpful. |
