View Full Version : Things you hope to accomplish in life
Brian 06-29-2005, 11:09 PM I have always wanted to work in the film industry. My particular interests are screenwriting, producing, and directing. I am planning on applying to California State University, Fullerton this October and, if I'm accepted, I plan to major in Radio, Film, and Television. After my summer class, I have two more semesters to go and then I'm done with community college and general ed.
Many people want to be in acting but that has never really appealed to me. I'm a better writer than an actor. I have so many ideas that could be made into a motion picture and they are not remakes of movies and TV shows, which seems to be the trend nowadays.
After I graduate, I'm probably going to live in Las Vegas if I can't afford to live in San Diego or in Southern California. There I could start writing. In addition to writing and directing movies, I also want to be a novelist.
What goals do you have in life? For those older members, are you happy with what you have done in your life and have no regrets?
MaydayMalonesGirl 06-29-2005, 11:15 PM I'll go with the cliché and say to do well in high school and go to a relatively good college. I also want to pursue a profession in a field that I enjoy and live somewhere that makes me happy.
vienna waits 06-29-2005, 11:28 PM -Enjoy college.
-Meet new people, make new friends.
-Find a girlfriend at college? maybe? I don't know.
-Earn a BA in Psychology.
-Go on to grad school and get my PsyD.
-Become a clinical psychologist.
-Find someone who could stand to marry me.
-Have some kids.
Kay Scarpetta 06-29-2005, 11:30 PM My dream is to be on Broadway. I've wanted to do this my whole entire life. I don't care if on my opening night, nobody at all comes to see me. I just want to get up on stage and sing my heart out. I know it will never happen, but sometimes I want it so much that I start to cry. I can't afford singing lessons... how can I be on Broadway if I can't sing?
Brad Russ 06-29-2005, 11:31 PM I just posted this topic about a week ago. I guess you missed it.

I've just thought, I think I would like to become a film director.

Pretty much.... ditto.
A few changes though:
This fall I plan on applying to Syracuse University and, thanks to going to a city school in Syracuse, I'm guaranteed acceptance. I will have to a work a little harder, on my own merits, to be accepted into the Newhouse Communications Center, where people such as Dick Clark, Aaron Sorkin, Grant Tinker, and Bob Costas have graduated from. It is there that I plan on majoring in Radio, Film and Television as well. It is a very expensive school, but I have been told that I will receive plenty of financial aid, considering I went to a Syracuse city highschool.
When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be an actor, but around 5th grade I discovered that I was a much better writer. It sounds as if we may be graduating at the same time, maybe a collaboration is in order?!
I do have a few ideas for movies, but I have dozens of ideas for possible television series. Screenwriting and producing are what I hope to pursue most, but I wouldn't put directing out of the question.

Anyway,my goals are to go to college and get a career in music.
Mijada 06-30-2005, 04:29 PM I've already accomplished what I wanted as far as education goes. I dreamed of going to art college when I was a kid and was able to do that. Even though it took me about 6 years to get through it, because I was working full time also, I managed to come out of it with a degree in illustration.
Now All I really want is to get married this fall and welcome my first child this December and hope fully have 1 or 2 more kids within the next five years.
I've always wanted to live in a house in the country and as of now we are working on accomplishing that goal. I'm hoping in about 2 years we will be all settled out there.

dawsongirl 06-30-2005, 04:35 PM Get married is my biggest goal in life.
Here, here! That is if I can find someone who can stand me. :lookaroun
Other goals:
Good job with good pay. Right now it's in healthcare front office. I can't stand needles and other people's bodily fluids, so nursing is out. Maybe one day I can be a clinic manager.
Kids.
Maybe I'll write a novel one day, but even if I do, I doubt highly it will get published. That goal is too unrealistic.
Have a really nice house in a really cool area. None of these brand new, looks-the-same-as-the-house-next-door, cookie cutter neighborhoods with no trees. Those houses have zero character. I'd like something unique. Maybe in an older area.

I can't stand those types of houses. Around here people pay a fortune for these houses that are so close together you can see your neighbor getting undressed through the window next door. They also have very little yard space, no room for a pool, swingset and no place for the kids to play but in the street. Some of these newer neighborhoods don't even allow you to have a clothesline outside.
We hope to get an older farmhouse on at least an acre of land similar to my sisters home. Preferably with 2 staircases, original fixtures and moldings, something with some history to it and someplace without neighbors always bitching about something.

Exactly. I was driving around some of the older neighborhoods around here where there's houses that were built in the 20s-40s, and they're so unique and have a history behind them. And space! I'm like you; I don't want to see my neighbors as I'm walking by my kitchen window.
The house my folks and I live in now is newer, but it's in a country-type setting, so we have lots of yard and trees. The people across the street had half their land declared forest preserve.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to be married, but I dont think I'll ever be able to trust someone else enough. Maybe my goal should be therapy!
