Cuoco under spell of WB's 'Charmed'

Tue Jun 28,10:03 PM ET

"8 Simple Rules" star Kaley Cuoco will next tackle the rules of witchcraft on the WB Network's "Charmed."

The actress is joining the cast of the veteran drama as a regular next season, playing a young witch under the tutelage of the Charmed ones (Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan).

In addition to Cuoco, the upcoming eighth season of "Charmed" will feature Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath, who signed on to do a multiepisode arc.

Great To See Kaley Cuoco getting lots of new work. Except for when John Ritter was in the show, I always thought she stole the show on 8SR. I always thought she was the best.

This really tells you about the appeal of this girl. For Kaley Cuoco to get a new movie and a regular TV role in less than two months after 8SR was canceled really shows how in demand she. Good Luck, Kaley. I am so happy we will still get to see Kaley Cuoco every week. I never watched Charmed before, but now I will watch it every week.

Well if 8 Simple Rules fans will start watching Charmed to see Kaley, then ratings should get a small boost. I don't know she'd be suited for Charmed but I look forward to seeing her in it anyway.

For Kaley to get a movie and full time TV show regular part in such a short period of time after 8SR cancelation is just amazing. This girl rocks !! What hot property she must be. :)

CHARMED (The WB) - Kaley Cuoco ("8 Simple Rules") has quickly found a new home as the actress is set to join the cast of "Charmed" during its upcoming eighth season. She'll play a young witch who's guided by the Charmed ones (Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan). She's not the only newcomer to the show this season however as actor/musician Mark McGrath signed on to do a multi-episode arc earlier this year.

Kaley is probably glad 8SR is dead anyways, it will only help her in the long run.

Aw so I guess 8 Simple Rules is 100% over :(

Oh well, I guess it'll be nice seeing Kaley in something different.

With the way Charmed is now a days, I don't think this will help her career at all. The writers for that show now a days are terrible.

For her to get a new regular cast member role in a network TV show in such a short time after 8SR cancelation is quite remarkable. It shows how in demand she is. Kaley will now get a chance to show her dramatic acting skills to go with her comedic acting skills. Even though Charmed may only last one season for her I think it will help her to get future roles.

I don't see how the writing for the show could hurt Kaley's career. She was hired as an actress. I don't think she could be fairly blamed for bad writing or get the credit for good writing.

Besides, the good writers of 8SR, who appeared to be slaves to a particular cast member other than Kaley, didn[t help her career at all. She barely had any lines in some episodes and those were just to comment on what was happening to another character (although Kaley delivers her lines very well, whatever or however many they are). I think Kaley is much more likely to get her proper respect from the people at Charmed.

While its a good career move for her I doubt she's happy about 8SR being canceled. Charmed is on its last days anyway and will probably only last one more year itself.

Christopher was just saying that ratings are decreasing for Charmed because of the bad writing so I doubt Kaley will get any recognition for it, its likely she'll be ignored.

I think it is a no lose situation for her. If the show continues to go down hill no one will blame her because the show was already falling when she got there. If the ratings go up they may credit her with helping the ratings. I really think if the WB can promote this correctly they can pick up a lot of 8SR viewers to watch this show. Most of us who really loved 8SR love Kaley, so we will watch this show. They have to let people know Kaley Cuoco has joined the cast.

I am speaking for myself, but I have never watched one episode of Charmed in its 7 year existence. Now, I will watch it every week, as long as Kaley is in it.

Since season 4 after Shannen Doherty was fired, Charmed writers focus almost every episode on Alyssa Milano's character. Unless the show changed since then, I don't believe Kaley will get that much air time in Charmed.

Since Charmed is 1 hour and 8SR was 1/2 hour, and Kaley was not in every scene in 8SR, she will probably get about the same amount of weekly airtime on Charmed. I read somewhere that the producers were bringing in Kaley and Mark McGrath to give the ratings a boost ,so I hardly think they would not use them. If Charmed can get a small part of the 8SR over 6 million viewers each week they will see a bump up in the ratings.

I maintain if Kaley can get a movie and a new regular role on network show in less than 6 weeks after 8 SR cancelation she is hot property, literally. If Charmed fails than hopefully she will get something else on TV for the following season. This girl is not only hot, but a very good actress.

When John Ritter Died she was the one who did not want to go on

That was just after John Ritter's death, when she was grief stricken. Later, when she had some time to recover, she agreed the show should go on. Although I am glad for the laughs and the memories of the rest of Season 2 and Season 3, sometimes I think, in hindsight, her first instinct may have been correct.

If Alyssa Milano didn't want Kaley on Charmed, she would not be there. Believe me. She didn't want Shannen Doherty, one of the original stars, on the show and Shannen was written out (Shannen doesn't get along well with a lot of people, including Alyssa).

I think Alyssa will be very generous towards Kaley (Holly and Rose, too). She's a natural mentor. They have a lot in common (Both Italian-American, both former child/teen stars, both gorgeous, so there won't be any jealousy. Holly, too, although she isn't Italian.)

While I thought the powers that be on 8SR showed extreme disrespect for Kaley, my impression is that she went through a period of grieving for the show and is now back in the game with a vengeance.

Same critique applies to that argument. If bad writing causes Charmed's ratings to go down, that won't hurt Kaley's career. I agree with Superbowl, it is a no lose situation. Not only does she not have to keep it from being cancelled, I don't think she even has to beat the trend line next season. If the show does well among younger viewers, as everything Kaley has ever been in has, she will have done her job. It's not Kaley's fault if the show was already losing viewers before she joined. If the show beats the trend line or is renewed, that will be icing on the cake, for Kaley's reputation.

nobody was questioning if Alyssa wanted her there. What Christopher was saying was that Charmed focused mainly on Alyssa since Shannen left and that other people didn't get much airtime (that has changed since seaosn 7 though)

I can only speak for myself, and time will tell what will happen with the ratings, but I will watch Charmed as long as Kaley is in it. I have not watched one single episode in its first 7 seasons, nor was I planning to watch any. However, now that Kaley is in the show I plan to watch every episode this season. I always thought she was the best one in 8SR after John Ritter's death. I think she is beautiful, and a great actress. If others feel this way she certainly will help the ratings. I just hope the WB promotes it, and lets people know she is now in the show. I assume the average TV viewer does not follow TV developments as closely as we do.

It's funny how different people can perceive that differently. It never occured to me that Alyssa was dominating airtime. I always thought they did a good job getting not only the three main characters, but the other characters, too, involved in the story. I can't imagine it would be worse than some episodes of 8 Simple Rules over the past year. Since Kaley's problem has never been favorability, but name recognition, even if fewer people watch Charmed than 8 Simple Rules (and you have to weight that by airtime. Twice is much is available for Charmed and she is likely to get more respect from the people at Charmed than from the "Spade regime" at 8 Simple Rules. I can't imagine she could get less), the important thing is to stabilize name recognition and not let it go into a free fall (How quickly they forget). Even not knowing what her other offers were, Charmed is a better option than waiting for pilot season and maybe not getting picked up or for the lag time of a movie (although she is doing that also). Since she picked Charmed, it is highly likely that was her best offer.

I think because of that and because she was reportedly brought on to save the show, she will probably get her fair share of airtime. The best part of this is that she gets to work for a Giant Producer like Aaron Spelling. This can only help her in the long run and might be a stepping stone to better things. Remember Alyssa was floundering after WTB went off the air until Spelling cast her on Melrose Place for a year. That spot led her directly to Charmed.

I agree with that completely. I think Charmed will be a stepping stone for Kaley to get other things. She now will still be in the limelight for next TV season, and get recognition. She loves to go to those Hollywood red carpet events, and would not have had a show to be identified with other than the canceled 8SR. Now they can put on the screen. "Kaley Cuoco from Charmed". I really think this will keep her name and face in the public eye, and hopefully she gets another show next year, if Charmed does not make it past next year.

By the way, I still think it is remarkable that she could find a regular role in a network series so soon after 8SR cancelation. It is a really a tribute to her appeal.

I to, have been watching Charmed for the first time because of Kaley and so far for a show thats in its 8th Season.. its been going pretty good. Its good to see Kaley doing well, I still wish 8 Simple Rules was still on the air.. I think it would of done better this year.. if it was renewed. I hope Amy and Martin find other projects soon as well, but enjoying Kaley work right now.
