View Full Version : Ever had to chase a thief?
swedeace 06-28-2005, 10:26 PM Any kind of a thief?
Damn! We had such a fun-filled day chasing down a thief at my college! *note the sarcasm* Well, it all happened instantaneously that I grabbed his shirt but lost my grip. I was so ready to just smack or push that guy against the wall so he'd lose his grip on his backpack with our $2,100 computer projector but I didn't. It was TOO fast for me that I did not think too quickly! Argh... Luckily, he was eventually caught! Chasing and trailing down a thief! My co-workers and I ran a chase after him. We ran after him, we searched for him, we had security come by, we had the Police Department arrest him (after security found him atop a house roof!), and we answered the FBI's questions, etc, etc.... Made for such a lonnnnnnng day at work today! *phew*
We went through A LOT... *phew*
Made for an interesting COPS-like and movie-of-the-week type of day for us!
swedeace 06-29-2005, 05:23 PM Wow. Hard to believe no one has any interesting story!
Number 9 Dream 06-29-2005, 05:48 PM Well, not me personally, but where I work we had someone demand that the girl(Kerliyn) give him all the money in the lotto drawer....well, she starts screaming at him like a psycho and slams his hand repeatedly in the lotto drawer, causing him to freak out and run....LOL, that's not the worst part-- one of our other coworkers Gretchen chased him down on the street.
The lesson learned here today? Never f*ck with people at my job :D We're all crazy and will HURT you

You all better be careful that a guy like that doesn't complain to the police or you could be
facing possible assault and battery charges.
Nighthawk76 06-29-2005, 06:33 PM In 6th grade (October of 1987 to be exact) I was in a store that was held up. A very scary experience. I didn't chase the thief though.
swedeace 06-29-2005, 06:39 PM Now everyone replies... hey, cool! 8)
RetroGirl: I know what you mean about people not wanting to mess with you guys at work! It's the same with us after yesterday. There were three of us females, so the administrative assistants all have nicknamed us three as "Charlie's Angels!" Don't mess with us women... imagine the guy talking with other inmates over why he was in jail - "I tried stealing this projector and got chased by three women!" LOL!

I am going to have to go with webwarrior on this one. Kerliyn could actually be brought up on assault charges for this. Unless you are in physical danger and you are protecting yourself, you cannot use violence on somebody else. Since Kerliyn and Gretchen were not placed in any physical danger, their actions would be considered assault and not self defense. In fact they would be in more trouble then the guy who actually held up the store.
I worked a few retail jobs in my life, and we occasionally had to nab a thief. Usually we wold just observe the person who swiped something, then call the Mall security to grab them as they left the store.
It was really fun to watch the person try to put the stuff back after they noticed that they were being watched.
Boy, some of those folks had the best acts in the world. The security would take the stolen items off of them, and they would swear the stuff just appeared there magically!

Yeah I agree on the first part. It is pretty comical, but unless he flashed a weapon, she shouldn't have done that.
As for the second- as long as the word is sensored somehow, they won't get in trouble for it ;)

True, I probably would have done the same thing. I'm unfortunately a very violent person
