View Full Version : Why MASH could not play as well if set in 2003 Iraq

There is a lot of complaining on MASH about being drafted into the service. It establishes that when many wounded arrive it is not the drafted GIs's fault that they were in this situation. But in the 2003 US-lead Iraqi occupation there was no draft. So if Hawkeye was a doctor in Iraq in 2003 he'd a have an at least slightly harder time building an outrage over wounded arriving considering the US wounded would all be volunteers and they somewhat asked to be fighting. Also, Saddam Hussein was a much more blatantly deadly, murderous tyrant than the leader of North Korea in the early 1950's (or atl least known for it was Saddam). Too many of Hawk's complaints would be rebuttled as "We had to get rid of Saddam!".
