...which one do YOU personally think is the best?

I've become a MASH fan in recent months (I was a baby when it ended and never really watched it before.) and I find this show has truly lived up to its reputation as "Best Sitcom Ever". It has wonderful acting and writing and has a good mix of comedy and drama. I wish we had more sitcoms like this on the air again. I'm really kicking myself for never getting into it before.

The Simpsons is a huge favorite of mine and also deserves to be called the Best Sitcom Ever. I love the comedy and satire in this show. Even a bad Simpsons episode still has a little humor in it.

I do love Cheers and The Cosby Show, but I think both are a little over-rated. They're great sitcoms, but I wouldn't call them the Best Sitcom Ever.

I never cared for I Love Lucy, All in the Family, Seinfeld, or Friends. Call me all the mean names you want, but those shows never appealed to me.

I like all of those, but Cheers is the best.

The only other series that I think could honestly be considered the best sitcom ever are Mary Tyler Moore, The Dick Van Dyke Show or The Andy Griffith Show.

Well I thought for sure that Mary Tyler Moore was going to be on the list (it would have definitely gotten my vote), but since it isn't, I picked I Love Lucy. I also like All in the Family, Cheers and The Simpsons.

Ohh wow.... I just want to say that the picture of Elizabeth Montgomery in your avatar is one of the best pictures I've ever seen of anyone, ever.
I always thought she was beautiful before, but in that pic, she looks perfect.

The Simpsons for me most consistantly funny I know the ones lately have sucked but from 92-02 it was brilliant

I'm going to say Seinfeld. Its one of the very few shows that actually got funnier and funnier instead of slowly losing its charm. Most of the best episodes are in the last season.

Are you kidding? The last season of 'Seinfeld' it probably the worst season. Not only did critics hate it, so did diehard fans. I guess to each their own.....

I voted for 'Seinfeld' as well......it's also the show that's cited as the 'Best Sitcom Ever' by most media sources.

I think I'm one of the few who loved the last episode of Seinfeld.

I Love Lucy without a doubt in my mind with Friends as a close second. I Love Lucy was a landmark for sitcoms that followed for its comedy but Friends in my opinion was the first show to acually blend comedy perfectly into an actual 10 year story.

out of those, I like Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld, and I Love Lucy. and I agree, Mary Tyler Moore should definitely be in the running for best sitcom ever. Never was a fan of All in the Family, Mash, or even the Andy Griffith Show though.

Friends, with Cheers in a close second. Although, if Fraiser was up there it would have beaten Cheers.

All in the Family is my all-time favourite sitcom. It really had it all, great cast, scripts, relevancy, realism...you name it, it rules.

Theres no other show in history that combined all elements of story (both comedy and drama) , politics, characters , pop culture ( disguised as the 1950s ) And just plain giving you something to think about , than M*A*S*H , for that reason, it has to be the best comedy of all time... If the Q were romantic comedy, my answer would have been Cheers, and in overall lasting power, i dont think ANYTHING will ever surpass I love Lucy ( 55 years and still going strong ! ) trivia byte : I love Lucy was a TV adaptation of Lucy's radio show "My Favorite Husband"

It make you wonder if all sitcoms were popular because it was actually good and funny(Ex:I Love Lucy,Dick Van Dyke,Green Acers,Good Times,That Girl),or popular because they were top rated(Ex:Rosesane,Cosby Show,Steinfeld,Friends)?!?Just because a show might have been in the top 10 doesn't mean that everyone liked it.There been many sitcoms that the so-called experts swear I"m watching when in fact,I can't stomache the show!It also seems to me that we are throwing around the title of "Best Sitcom Ever" to any "flavor of the moment" show.Being top rated shouldn't be a reason to called a sitcom "the greatest ever"!It must cross all lines, beloved by both Black and White,Hispanics, and all other races out here, and by all age groups.Just because one group like that sitcom doesn't mean that another group liked it.We need to be more careful when it comes to saying that a sitcom is "the greatest ever" until all the votes are in.

It's obvious you just have a stick up your ass about any series that aired in the 80s or 90s. I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show were both Top 10 series, must be trash.... right?! And those are the only two that you consider "good and funny" that would even come close to being considered the best sitcom ever.

Here we go again!I did not meant to apply that 80's or 90's sitcoms were wrost than anything that were on 50's,60's,and 70's.Believe me there a few sitcoms even I didn't like from that era.All I was trying to do was make a point about top rated vs popular sitcoms, and only used thoes shows for example;NOT to give an opinion one way or another about how I personally feel for 80's/90's show.To everyone surprise, there were a few that I liked;very few.And for your imformation,I DO NOT have a stick stuck up my "behind"!Just because I'm not "brainwash into loving every sitcom isn't a reason to call names.

A show would have to be top-rated to be considered popular.

Ranking the shows on this poll
1. I Love Lucy- Iconic putting sitcoms on the map and also inventing reruns
2. M*A*S*H- Kept itself fresh with the cast changes, there were no weak links for any of the series regulars.
3. Seinfeld- Excellent show with a deep bench of recurring characters. However, definitely not the best of all time.
4. Cheers- I prefer the Shelley Long era, but like M*A*S*H did cast changes and additions like Frasier and Lilith well. But og Frasier is still easily better than its parent show, as well as Wings from the same creators.
5. Friends- I don't hate this show like I did even a year ago. But in the battle of smash hit 90s sitcoms Seinfeld is still better. Several less popular sitcoms are still better too.
6. The Cosby Show- I could have put this ahead of Friends. But what we found out about Bill Cosby (not known when the OP made this poll) sadly tarnishes its legacy.

Those are the shows I like. Can't stand All in the Family anymore :barf:, and The Simpsons has lasted way too long. Even most Simpsons fans think its best days are long gone.
