View Full Version : Men Missing At Sea
I saw this case today on Lifetime...
It was very intriguing --- especially the freighter making the strange movements and the phone calls that took place after the incident. Like the man said, (can’t remember who) there are many times that people go missing at sea with the bodies never being found, but they usually always find the debris (like the life raft --- which was never recovered).
I noticed that there were no updates, and this happened in 1990!
Do you think the men were/are really being held in a foreign country against their wills?
Kemistry 06-22-2005, 11:00 PM Hard to say, I guess looking at the evidence such as the mysterious phone calls gives one the motive to speculate that yes they could've been transported to a forgein country against their wills.
george ramos 06-23-2005, 01:33 PM I think those calls were a prank. If they were held in a foreign country they are most likely dead. I'm surprised they were never found.
Goofyman 06-23-2005, 07:13 PM Well, the chances of the 3 men being alive is low, and the chances of the 3 men returning home is almost none.
It's entirely possible that the men were picked up by the ship and are/were being held against their will. It's also possible that they were killed.
However, I think that they are dead, either from exposure or:
There is a chance of murder. One of the 3 missing men could have killed the other two for food/water and then died from exposure, or the surviving man could have abandoned the 3 at sea, or they could have murdered each other in an attempt to live.
I don't know.
Awsi Dooger 06-23-2005, 11:03 PM I tend to default to the simplest explanation in almost every case. I think the three men died at sea, the ocean liner never stopped to pick up anyone, the calls were a hoax, and the one survivor was incredibly fortunate. Just think of yourself 20 miles off the Georgia coast, clutching an overturned boat. And all you need is a styrofoam bait box to miraculously pop loose with one side open. And then a boat to get close enough and curious enough to take a look before you perished. Yeah.
Somewhat related, the other night I saw a depiction of the "left at sea" incident from Australia in '98, when Tom and Eileen Lonergan of Louisiana were unintentionally abandoned after taking a day excursion diving boat. Creepy and so sad. They even had a picture of the couple onboard just before the fatal episode. Unbelievable and pathetic no one among 25+ others onboard realized the Lonergans had not returned from their dive before the boat departed. Or no one figured it out for more than two days. The writing slate indicated the couple survived the first night. When I was researching subsequently via the internet, it was amazing there had been several similar episodes in the past 10 or 15 years, including one in '94 with 6 deaths but not heavily publicized due to locale. Also pathetic that many in the Australian tourism community continue to assert the couple is either still alive or committed suicide.
Thanks for the replies, everyone!!
Yeah, logic tells me that they're all dead, but I still don't think they died at sea. I think it's really odd that the raft was never found. Nothing besides debris from the actual boat sinking was found. I think the freighter picked them up, brought them to a Spanish speaking country (probably in South America).
I still have some hope they (or at least one of them) will turn up alive in the future.
Jersey Girl 7 06-26-2005, 12:24 AM i saw that also! it is so sad...
njf520 06-27-2005, 08:30 PM the calls didn't even mention the men, their boat or that they were picked up. i have seen this segment a few times and i always feel like it is a stretch to think those calls were even connected to the men missing at sea. if some was trying to help them by calling their families, i think they would have made it a bit more clear what was going on, at least by learning one word of english like "boat" or something. someone calling and saying, "we bringin' 'em home" doesn't mean much to me.
hayes 06-28-2005, 04:22 AM i wish we could get updated more, even if there was no update on the case, i want to know where it stands
Jersey Girl 7 06-28-2005, 03:25 PM Let's look into it then.
