Do you find Mr. Drummond, and Mrs. Garrett mmore funny now that you are older and Arnold less funny? When I watched this show during my elementary school days I always laughed at Arnold. But now that I'm older I can really see how funny Mr. Drummond was. Anyone over 18 agree?

I'm 34 and probably haven't seen this show since the mid/late 80's until Comcast started to show it. I must say I think everybody's humor is corny!! Dana Plato is totally unreal and syrupy! But I still watch this show now. I think the Hello, Larry crossovers are ultra-corny, but I still watch them now too anyway! I must be getting nostalgic.

I think Ruthie from Hello Larry would have made a better Kimberly Drummond

I had completely forgotten about these episodes. Damn, they showed them overseas and i don't think anybody's got a clue of who these people are and what "Hello Larry" was. Another sitcom, i presume, right?

Hello Larry was a Sitcom about a Father who was a Talk Show Radio Host raising 2 daughters in Portland,Oregon. The show premired on NBC in January of 1979 and was aired a half hour before Diffrent Strokes. So since the show was strugglng, There was attempt to do a crossover with both Shows but it never worked and Hello Larry was cancelled a year later.

im 14, but i do see what you mean. i think each character was a main staple to the show... each staple was funny in their own ways. :)

damn, I admit I'm surprised. Knowing your tastes I thought you were older than I am! (I'm 25, that's meant as a complement btw)

well, when I was a kid, I thought Coleman was cool. Watching it now, he's still funny, albeit in a cute precocious rascal way. I never really found Drummond to be all that funny, as he was more of a "straight man" to Arnold and whoever the housekeeper was. I did think Mrs. Garrett was a lot funnier on DS than she was on FOL, but on FOL, she was more or less the maternal figure.

I can't wait to revisit the rest of the seasons on DVD. Nick At Nite seemed to make it about as far as season 3 and then that was it.

In syndication, Hello Larry looks like a Spinoff of Different Strokes

Mr. Drummond wasn't all that funny. Mrs. Garrett was though. Arnold, however, still steals every scene he's in.

And I know Solomon, I'm only 17. But just because you're an old man now doesn't mean I'm not an adult. :p

(hope you had a good birthday, btw)

Just pay close attention to Mr. Drummond the next time you watch Diffrent Strokes and you will see how funny he is.

I personally never found Mr. D funny. Although it has been a couple of years since I've seen this show.

One of Mr. Drummond's classic scenes with Arnold

Mr. Drummond: "Don't worry Arnold you will know when you are ready to date

Arnold: "How Will I Know Dad?"

Mr. Drummond: "Your wife Will Tell You"

lol

That's kind of cheesy, but I guess that was the humor from this show.

Brian you are going to make me go into my Video Vault and watch DS so I can give you more examples. here is another one

Arnold:"aww dad I don't want to come home at 10pm because things don't get cooking until midnight"

Mr. Drummond:"Well you have to turn off your burner a little early"

Hello, Larry actually aired after Diff'rent Strokes for the majority of the time... but it was never able to retain the audience so it got canceled.

Disagree. Drummond is as corny as I remember him from when I watched when I was young, but I think I appreciate Gary Coleman as young Arnold even more.

What made him funny was him not knowing he was corny.

What I liked was in the pilot episode Drummond was cracking every corny joke in the book and Arnold and Willis didn't laugh not one bit at them.
