I'm kind of surprised after coming here that nobody posted this info yet but TVShowsOnDVD.com posted last week that a special dvd will feature Welcome Back Kotter and it will be available soon at Best Buy. It won't be a season release or anything but I think that it will have four episodes, I think. Anyway, it's better than nothing. The thing that kind of get's me irritated is that Best Buy has an "exclusive" on this disc . . . at least for the time being . . . . and they are charging 15 bucks for it but the other discs in the series (e.g., F-Troop, Cheyenne, etc) will only cost 9.97 SRP. So, i.e., Best Buy is gonna charge 5 dollars extra for this disc. I mean the dvd may be available for less money later on. But it sounds like if you want to get this disc now, you have to go to Best Buy and you need to pay the price they are asking. Kind of sux, if you ask me.

Warner Bros has announced their "Television Favorites" collection, which includes a gathering of episodes from some of your favorite shows. Each disc carries a suggested retail price of $9.97, and will be available on September 27. We hope to have episode titles later today, which will be in separate news postings associated with the shows.

Note that the first title, The Dukes of Hazzard, should be the same item we reported on in a Mid-April story, but in a re-designed cover. The version with the cover shown previously is already available as a Wal-Mart exclusive, but the repackaged version should be available elsewhere in September. Here are the covers (the Maverick release looks to be the identical one we told you about in May):

Welcome Back, Kotter - Television Favorites: Best Buy Exclusive
Posted by Gord Lacey

Back in April we posted news that Welcome Back, Kotter would be released under the "Television Favorites" banner, and would include a few episodes from the series, and yesterday we posted news about 5 other "Television Favorites" releases, but Kotter wasn't among them. We had a few readers email us to ask why Kotter wasn't among them; it's a Best Buy exclusive title.

Best Buy will have this title in stores on June 28, just a few weeks away, and they're already taking preorders for the disc on their site. They're selling this title for $14.95, which is $5 more than the other "Television Favorites" titles Warner announced yesterday. We know that Best Buy will have an exclusive selling period of a few months for these "exclusive" titles, so it's conceivable that Welcome Back, Kotter could be release to retail on September 28th, but Warner Bros didn't want to announce it just before it goes on sale at Best Buy, and may do so at a later date. That's pure speculation on our part, but it seems to make sense. It's likely this release will contain 6 episodes of the show, and come in somewhere around 150 mins.

Note: It might be a six episode disc instead of four episodes. Not too sure. I thought I had read that it was only four episodes but if the disc is around 150 minutes roughly that would be more than just four episodes.

I agree.... BUT... if sells well there will be season sets released.

I might have to buck up for this though it is against my principles.

But it shouldn;t just be a 4 ep best of DVD. The first season of WBK was a Hit and it should be released on DVD.

I hate "Best of..." compilations. To me that means there are no plans to release DVD season sets. Look at what Universal did to the Incredible Hulk!

I agree.

But the point is these people in charge are idiots.
They can't even fathom that people will hold off buying this in favor of season sets. They just don't get it.

They are looking at desperation, and making a stand and not buying the dvd will not help the future of this show on dvd.

But if we all bought it and were assured season sets (because of the interest showed in buying the crappy best of)... I could kinda live with it.

But if there are no plans for season sets, then F them big time.

the only way that i would feel good about getting it would be if they offered a rebate for the first season with it... i'd rather put up the $30-40 to pre-order the first season NOW than get the best of disk.

that said, i still don't know if i will get this or not :(

I bought a dvd from Columbia House, the first four episodes of Good Times just a few months they announced the first season set would be released. Now I can't get anyone who'd be willing to pay for it, I'll probably have to give it away for free.

I agree with everybody, a dvd with just a few episodes of Welcome Back Kotter won't do me any good. I wouldn't buy this best of, I'd hold out for a season set.

Although I agree in essence with what other posters have written so far, personally, I look forward to this special release dvd for two reasons:

1) This is my opportunity to watch any W.B.K. at all to begin with. I don't own any W.B.K. on DVD or VHS and given the fact that it is NOT shown anywhere right now at least in my local area, this is my only opportunity to see this show at all. In short, four episodes is better than NOTHING.

2) Who knows? If this special release does well, perhaps the powers that be will take notice and plan on releasing the Season One set. I mean, if it does sell better than they expected, why wouldn't they consider the idea????? But until they do, this is MY only opportunity to have any episodes whatsoever so I'm happy to even have these.
