In the 1989 movie, it turns out that a young Jack Napier (The Joker) killed Bruce Wayne's parents. Is that just for the movie, or is that how it was in the comics too?

I wasn't sure where to post this at. It was more a question about the Batman character than the movie.

A friend told me that in the 1989 movie Tim Burton took a few liberties with saying that the Joker killed Bruce Wayne's parents. In the new movie it's totally different. In the original story it was not the Joker at all.

I liked the idea that Joker killed his parents, even though it's not that way in the comics. I thought it was pretty original.

I became a fan of Batman in 1989 through the movie. So I had no idea that the Joker didn't kill Bruce's parents in the comics. I also didn't realize, until later, that Billy Dee Williams' character Harvey Dent would become Two-Face.

In the comics, a criminal by the name of Joe Chill was the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents.

See? I know trivia from other movies!
