Teri Hatcher plays Theresa Reynolds, a former CEO of a successful and fast-paced Manhatten clothing line turned unemployed Long Island has-been. Back in New York, she closeted her secret panic and anxiety attacks from her high-profiled career and lifestyle, which each day brought new stress and more stressful situations. After years of hiding her attacks, they caught up to her-during a stressful day of work. Theresa's boss and co-workers had taken her to the hospital after she had a meltdown and hyperventulated uncontrollably. Theresa soon learns her position has been already filled and she was replaced while her week-stay in the hospital. So, Theresa decides to move back to her hometown--Long Island. Theresa now is living with her always bickering parents, Keith and Charlene Reynolds (Tom Selleck, Marlo Thomas) and her 18 months older bachelor brother, Patrick Reynolds (Jeremy Piven)-who lives in the apartment over the garage. While back in her hometown, Theresa bumps into her former high school sweetheart, Brian Harper (David Schwimmer), whom she left behind after high school to head for New York. Yet now Brian is married with no kids to Theresa's former high school best friend, Corrina Harper (Lara Flynn Boyle). With Theresa back in town, Brian and Corrina's marriage starts to slowly fall apart.
