View Full Version : Does/did your school have cliques?
barwars 06-13-2005, 07:58 AM Whenever I see movies about high school, or kids from other high schools in general, they always mention cliques.
I'll be a senior in the fall, and I don't really notice them. Maybe it's just different at my school. Basically everyone seems to be friends with everyone, and if they're not, its for personal reasons rather than the type of music they listen to or the clothes they wear.
The thing is, I don't know where I'd place myself if there were cliques.
Superstar 06-13-2005, 08:01 AM yes, my school has cliques. There are the slutty clique of girls, there are the ******** clique of guys and there are a couple of small groups that aren't part of it.
vienna waits 06-13-2005, 09:14 AM yeah
Rhiannon 06-13-2005, 09:32 AM duuh
TripperFan 06-13-2005, 09:52 AM My highschool had MAJOR cliques. The Jocks, The Stoners, The Discos, The Nerds.
MsOrange 06-13-2005, 09:53 AM give me a high school, or even a middle school, that didn't
Moonlight Lady 06-13-2005, 10:13 AM Mine did too, but, I got along with most of them.
Middle school was the worst.
MsOrange 06-13-2005, 10:19 AM middle school for me was the best... then my family moved after 8th grade so I had to start HS knowing NO ONE and of course, the guidance counselor picked what I later found out was one of the most popular girls in school. Her clique ditched me 3 days later, they literally went out of there way and they don't know if, but I over heard them saying "come on, lets just leave her". That's some pretty devasting stuff for a 14 year old.
barwars 06-13-2005, 10:29 AM give me a high school, or even a middle school, that didn't
mine doesn't.
Cactus Jack 06-13-2005, 11:11 AM My highschool had MAJOR cliques. The Jocks, The Stoners, The Discos, The Nerds.
The Class Clowns?
Mine has some, like preppies, skaters, the "hip hop" people
PZelda 06-13-2005, 01:31 PM Mine did. Mostly stoners, partiers and sex-crazed people. That made up about 85% of the clique at school. The other 12% of us were normal people and 3% were Native Americans who often beat people up. When I was in high school, I lived 5 minutes away from a Native American reservation and most of the kids there went to school on their reservation, but there were others that preferred to be enrolled in the public school system there. I would often have to go through the reservation when I was driving down to my hometown, and we would pass the school...It was just one HUGE block with NO WINDOWS ON IT AT ALL. The only windows were on the doors. :faint: I seriously think I went to high school in a jail - and I don't joke about that. There were very few windows, and they were the kind that didn't open. Now, that was bad...but I would seriously feel like I went to HS in a jail on that reservation. [/ramble]
Number 9 Dream 06-13-2005, 01:43 PM Mine definately did at first, but it seems to have dissipated as time went on....by senior year, it seemed like everyone was friends with who they wanted to be friends with.
The original cliques we had were: the preps(BIIIG population in my school), the partiers, the jocks, the nerds, the freaks(which consisted of goths, stoners, hippies, etc) and the "drama nerds"(half nerd half freak)
Hollow 06-13-2005, 02:12 PM i don't know.
TripperFan 06-13-2005, 02:16 PM The Class Clowns?

Oh yeah - and our class clowns. I was labelled that for sure!!
MsOrange 06-13-2005, 02:17 PM mine doesn't.
i find that very hard to believe
barwars 06-13-2005, 02:20 PM i find that very hard to believe
We really dont. Everything kind of blends together. It's weird. Not in a bad way.... just different.

Honestly - I was down at the office ALL THE TIME!!
I'll never forget - third day of grade nine and I get called down to the V.P's office. He's got my file from middle school sitting on his desk and its an inch thick!!! He rifles through it and says he's been reading up on me and doesn't want anymore "hijinks" at HIS school!!
Honestly - that just gave me the fuel I needed to REALLY stir things up! Our first football game was against a rival school. They marched a friggin' parade down to our school's football field - complete with horses and their school's band in a covered truck. Well, the horses crapped all over our field so I couldn't just stand there! Me and a couple of friends took off to the plaza across the road, bought 3 dozen eggs and started hurling them at their school's band - all trapped in the back of the truck!
I feel a tap on my shoulder and I look around and it's the V.P.!! I must have gone beet red, but all he did was laugh and shake his head. He said in this case, I'm going to let it go - so I got away with that one. ;)
EmoJoe 06-13-2005, 02:53 PM Unfortunatley, yes.
Theres the sports-obsessed kids, the "popular" boys, the "popular" girls, and than everyone else.
EmoJoe 06-13-2005, 02:53 PM We really dont. Everything kind of blends together. It's weird. Not in a bad way.... just different.
I wish I was in your school.

Is it a separate school at all? I think one's where the kids wear the same uniforms aren't as clique-ish as public schools as some of the competition is eliminated.
Yeah, I wish my schools had been like that. It wasn't much fun trying to fit in with different groups.
Number 9 Dream 06-13-2005, 02:56 PM  You rule, my friend. My friends and I do crazy, silly stuff like that for laughs all the time.

Yeah, I wish my schools had been like that. It wasn't much fun trying to fit in with different groups.
It's a public, city school. Lots of kids. Asian, Hispanic, white, black. Everyone dresses differently, and listens to different kind of music, but everyone seems to get along for the most part.
People always mention when they come to our school how they notice how un-clique-like it is.
It's nothing like movies make it out to be.

 Yup - that was just for openers!
We also moved a female teacher's car so that she couldn't drive it out of the parking lot - we placed it right in the middle of those cement markers and hid to watch her reaction. We did go over to help her though within a few minutes. She took it pretty well.
Another time we dropped Alka-Seltzer in the fishtank in Science class and all the fish were picking at it and the bubbles (wasn't funny when they were all dead the next day tho) Whoops!
We ran fishing line about 2 inches above the floor, wrapping it around all the desk legs so that when the teacher went to walk down he'd trip.
I once wrapped packing tape around a kid's head in Marketing class and even the teacher fell on the floor laughing when he came in the room. Same teacher laughed even harder when I got my feet caught in a desk and needed him to help me get out - he just sat there laughing at me while I'm late for my next class. (He was a really good guy actually - liked my warped sense of humour).
Had a paper airplane fight with my grade 12 English teacher during a final exam - he even mentioned it when he autographed my yearbook.
Oh yeah, I had quite the reputation at school. They even commented that they were glad I took Theatre Arts - that it might be an outlet for my need to ham it up!

count your blessings then! that's extremely rare... i had to go to a high school known for it's snobbishness (is that a word?)

I had a girlfriend that went to a school like that - it was in a rich neighbourhood and she was "from the other side of the tracks" and was never accepted. She ended up dropping out of school entirely in grade 10 because of it. I felt so badly for her. It put her off so badly that she didn't want to attend ANY school after that.
Janet McFarland 06-13-2005, 04:16 PM In my school we have the preps, goths, emos (whatever you call them), nerds, jocks, sluts, and the rest of us are normal. Well, I think we are.
CollegeDropout 06-13-2005, 04:27 PM yeah, every school has cliques...it doesnt matter if everyone gets along, there are still cliques because people feel most comfortable with people who are similar to them, much easier to relate. Personally, I'm a friendly kid, so I have friends in different cliques in addition to my circle of friends (which would be 'normal'/jock-ish) but its not like bad, bc people dont bother others...i mean sure there prob. are fights but there isnt a lot of hazing and kids generally are chill with everyone, but have their groups

*Pleasant Tomorrow* 06-13-2005, 05:00 PM There are cliques, but it's not the stereotypical "cheerleaders make fun of nerds" crap. That's hollywood. In fact most cliques get along with the other cliques just fine. I'm not saying they're best friends and hang out all the time, but it's not how tv or books make it out to be. The only exception to that are the scumbags who say whatever the hell they want.
TripperFan 06-13-2005, 05:03 PM Although we sure didn't with "the discos" - I remember a few water bomb fights with them! They used to flaunt their daddy's cars and designer clothes all the time which angered people.

What exactly are "discos"??
barwars 06-13-2005, 05:05 PM is it a small school?
No. There's about 2000 kids.
TripperFan 06-13-2005, 05:15 PM What exactly are "discos"??
 Oh o.k. - I went to highschool from 75 - 79 so it was the height of the "Disco Era"!
Me and my friends were hardcore "rockers" - Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. so the thought of disco disgusted us! We were the ones in Levi jeans, jean jackets and Levi's shirts or t-shirts. I think I wore a skirt twice the whole time I went. The discos wore all the makeup, flashy clothes, forced their music upon us, roared around in their parent's cars and just generally irritated everyone!
Courtnee 06-13-2005, 05:53 PM HECK YES!!!!!!
I'm more of a gothic/nerd person ;)
MaydayMalonesGirl 06-13-2005, 06:54 PM Definately. Most people are cordial to each other, but they always stay in their groups for the most part. I was never in any kind of clique, which is one of the main reasons middle school has been so hard for me.
Mijada 06-13-2005, 07:13 PM There were a bunch of cliques at my high school. Jocks, Burnouts, Preps, Nerds and the group of people who didn't really fit in anywhere. that's the one I belonged to.

Same with me. I can't place myself anywhere. I talk to people from all cliques, but I'm not in a group with any of them. I just have a few cliqueless friends I hang out with...I hate them, though.
dawsongirl 06-13-2005, 09:16 PM Oh hell yeah. It was rich kids vs. poor kids pretty much. And pretty much all the rich kids were pretty/handsome athletes. If you weren't an athlete, you were NOBODY. Then the band and choir people had a clique that was worse than the jock clique. I fit in nowhere. Looking back, that school sucked ass.

I hate sports. 33 pages dedicated to them in the yearbook. It's true, it's like you're cooler, you're better, you're hotter er some **** if you play sports.

:yeahthat
This town is so sports obsessed it's embarrassing. They even bitched when someone wanted to put non-sports competition winners on the hall of fame sign outside. Oh damn, putting the winning debate team on there with the baskball teams would totally geekify the whole thing.
The Duke of Spoook! 06-14-2005, 01:37 AM Being a school guard at a large high school of 3,500 students,I knew by observing the different clitches this school had. They had the Jocks, the Stoners, the Hip Hop crowd, the Goths, the CMTers(yes, a clique who just happens to be very obsessed with CMT.), the Skaters, the Nerds, the Punks, the Bellbottomers, the Cowboys, the Greezers, the Motorcyclers(yes there was a clique of motorcycle riders in this high school all who were 18 years old, and a very small clique at that.), the Vatos, the Sluts, the Goody Too Shoes, the Cheerleaders, the Metalheads(those who only listen to heavy metal music and nothing else.), the Class Clowns, and the Hicks.

What are Vatos?

TheGreatPretender 06-14-2005, 09:16 PM Mine doesn't. But than again I don't go to a normal high school. I hang out with a preppy girl, a Gansta girl, a goth girl. <---- Not to sound offensive to anyone. But I do notice at times our school can be separated by race.

Next to practically going to high school in a jail (minus the bars, of course ), my high school's sports teams also sucked major ass. They all got equal pages in the yearbook - two for whatever team it was (basketball, etc) and the academics evened out the sports section, so it was all good. My crappy HS still gave more :dollar: to the sport teams, though. And this was when my HS had some of the BEST academic teams in the state. Hmmm, yeah...

They are the Macho Chicano types, Esse'. Don't dis them, the trueset Vato-Locos don't like being dissed. Odale'!
Try listening to some Kid Frost sometime. He's a true vato.
Dude111 10-02-2025, 06:36 PM MIne didnt have any....... (Unless I dont know what they are)
One thing I didnt like about School is how unfriendly kids were from other grades.... Like a 8th grader not being nice to a 4th grader or being thier friend... I think we all should be loving and caring to each other..... We all should be friends with all!!
Its how God wants it....... (More kindness and love in the world)
