If the First Odd Couple in the 70's was a FLOP, why would CBS agree to air a Remake of the Show in the Early 80's? The New Odd Couple was about Two African American Men living Together and after watching this Show for the first Time Yesterday, I can see why it was cancelled. I just can't get into a Show about Two Grown men Living Together who were not RELATED. Very ODD.

BTW: Does anyone know when the New Odd Couple first premired on CBS, it's last Telecast on CBS and how many eps were produced?

Actually The New Odd Couple was pretty good..I actually liked it more than the original, but this show was aired during the writer's strike that took place of the 1982/1983 television season...

I found out that Esther Rolle did guest star on the New Odd Couple. It was the very first episode. I wonder if she still had the fro-lol

Yes she does, looked just like Good Times! She plays the part of the IRS agent.
I have read conflicting stories on this shows broadcast. Some say 13 eps produced, but I have only ever been able to find 5 and apparently only 5 have ever appeared in syndication too (TV LAND, BET).

Tom

Opinion, I actually liked both shows and in the remake, I found all 5 eps very entertaining.

It may be 13 because inside the TV Book-Primetime Directory, it says the New Odd Couple lasted from 1982-83. No exact dates were given

I agree, I also found the New Odd Couple to be quite entertaining. I thought Ron Glass did a fantastic job portraying Felix.. :)

the show was on ABC (just like the first one) not CBS.

I thought it was OK , not good but not bad, either. I just remember though, that at least half of the episodes were remakes of Klugman/Randall episodes. (because of the 82/83 writers strike)

The new Odd Couple stunk up the joint. There was nothing original about it. The original Odd Couple might not have been a hit on ABC, but became a syndicated success.

Hold on there. The original Odd Couple series may have been a bigger success in syndication than in its first airing, but it was by no means a flop. It ran for five years. At that time, it was considered prudent to take a good show off after five years before it turned bad, and after they had enough eps to keep it in syndication.

I've that The New Odd Couple replaced Bosom Buddies, then it was cancelled after one year before being replaced by Webster.
