Okay, I don't know how many of you are obsessive L&S fans like me, but try to follow me on this, okay?

In episode #4 "A Nun Story," Laverne says that they have been out of high school for 3 years.

In episode #5 "Faulter at the Alter," Laverne almosts marries a man named Sal

In episode #136, "It Only Hurts When I Breathe" they get an invitation to their ten year high school reunion, meaning that it had been 7 years since they had they're third year reunion

In episode #137 "I Wonder What Became of Sal" Sal comes to Burbank and he and Laverne once again almost get married. Anyway, in this episode, they say that it must have been ten years since she almost married Sal. But how the heck did a three years pass since one episode?

"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

Hi LaverneShirley,

I am also a L&S Fanatic. (I've seen every episode except "I Do I Do" and "New Years Eve 1960".)

I have thought about this story glitch many times. It could not be ten years ago because "I Wonder What Became of Sal" occurred in 1966. This would had set "Falter at the Alter" in 1956. The show did not even start until 1959.

While I'm here, has anyone ever seen "New Years Eve 1960"? N@N skipped it the last two times but they may had played it at an earlier time (and I jut missed it).

I saw it in 1998, before I was obsesseive, and completely forgot about it, and then when I saw the last half of it in 1999, I remembered the big bucket of milk and Pepsi and then at the AOL L&S message board someone said something about L's on Laverne's roller-skates, and I remembered those too. Anyway, TV Land shows it a couple times every year in their New Year's box set. Hopefully they'll show it this year too.

Laverne & Shirley seem to be caught in some sort of alternate dimension where time moves slightly different than it does in the physical universe. This was most likely caused by one of the other-worldly beings of the Happy Days universe, such as Mork or possibly that nephew of the Devil who tried to buy Chachi's soul.

Oh! Melvin Scratch! Be-elzabob! (Sorry... but my friend spent the night the last time that episode was on and we found it hilarious and spent the rest of the night doing the funny voice... funny thing though, I always did that voice before I even saw that episode, I got it from my sister)

I always figured since she said "it must have been ten years" since she almost married Sal, she was estimating and just wasn't a very good guesser.

Unfortunately, solid continuity wasn't something that L&S was known for. Yes, it was "allegedly" 10 years between's Sal's two proposals to Laverne--even though the girls were celebrating their ten year high school reunion the same year of proposal #2.

Another head scratcher is that Frank & Edna were married in Season 5, yet in Season 6 they were celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary. My theory is that there were a few "lost years" in between Season's 5 and 6 which better explains the show's jump from teh late 50's/early 60's style to the mid-60's Beatles era which began in Season 6.

TV years are different from regular years, I learned that from watching The
Young & Restless. The writers probably have a hard time keeping up with the
time problem too.
