For those of you who have been to both of these theme parks, which one would you say is better and why? Do they have any of the same attractions and what are the major differences? I've been to Disney World in Florida a couple times and thought it was awesome but never to Disneyland. Some people I work with have never been to either park and want to take a trip next year but wanted to know which one was better.

Disneyland is disney worlds magic kingdom, just a little nicer, with all the same rides, a few different. Next door to Disneyland is Disneys California Adventure, which is a crappy California themed park. That's what makes up The Disneyland Resort, with downtown disney and hotels. Disney World is bigger, since it obviously has more parks. Disneyland is in the middle of a major area, its not secluded like disney world. some people like that though, because it gives you more things to do that aren't disney related.

For Disney fans.... Disneyland. It's the real place. It's where it all started. There's something about it that just can be duplicated.

If you want more rides and more attractions.... Disneyworld. Much larger, and as TIM087 said, it's very secluded, which many people prefer.

I think with the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland, Disneyland would be the wiser choice. From what I understand its cheaper, and like I said before, theres just something about it that even Disneyworld can't compare to.

Ive never been to Disney Land but ive been to Disney World twice, and I loved it. Disney Land is smaller I think.

I'd go with Disney World I guess...because its bigger and has more attractions, ect. Plus a lot of people go to DisneyWorld, Universal and SeaWorld because their all right next to each other.

As I was commented on my earlier post about the Disneyland's 50th Anniversary. I've been to Disney World 11 years ago. I've never been to Disneyland before, but I've heard it.

Disney World is also doing that because it's been 50 years since the actual Disney (not the park)started...so they're doing something called "The Happiest Celebration on Earth" where their bringing in rides from all over the country and stuff. So...if you're looking for that stuff either one would be good.

I went to Universal while I was staying at DisneyWorld. Universal was better.

I haven't been to Disneyland, but I can't see that ANYTHING can beat DisneyWorld! The best vacation I've ever had! It was 10 years ago and we're still talking about it. I'd love to go back and see the new animal park and all.

Plus, we took a day and went to Universal also. It was good, but I still liked Disney better but it did break up the "Disney" thing for a day.

I think both parks are going all out for the 50th so they're not going to be disappointed either way. Probably whichever they feel they can afford more - I'm sure Florida is more expensive (since there's more parks).

The only bad thing about a Disney vacation is that by the end of the vacation you're beat from walking around the parks every day, all day

The animal park is pretty cool. When we were in Orlando a few years ago we went to 7 different parks in one week. Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Universal, MGM Studios, Sea World, Islands of adventure and Epcot. Plus the Hard Rock Cafe and a few other restaurants and we also took part of a day to show my friends little girl the ocean. It was exausting but it was the most fun I've ever had.
Anyways I'm surprised that DisneyWorld is bigger. I was always under the impression that Disneyland was the bigger one being that it's been around longer and they've had more time to add on to it.

Nope, it's the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland Park. I'm 100% positive.

Sorry - just checked their website and they're celebrating 50 years of Disney theme parks - all parks will be celebrating.

They are tiring, but its a great workout!

They're celebrating it everywhere, but the actual anniversary is of the opening of Disneyland in California.

I'm a bit a Disney nerd, sad, isn't it?

I'll bet it's great - everything they do is!! I swear by the time we were through, I got on the plane and while we were waiting to taxi, I'm thinking, o.k. - well - when does the ride start? I kept expecting to be amazed even on the way home! I guess it was because I didn't want it to end!
Yeah - we took in Planet Hollywood during the day, and went back for souvenirs during a downpour at night - have video of it.
I think what happened is Walt built the first one in California, where Disney Studios were based and he lived. Once they saw how successful it was, they wanted to expand, but couldn't because land around it had already been developed. He sought out (I forget how many) thousands of acres and the best was in central FL. And from there they were able to grow and expand. I loved every minute we were there (even when I was accidently groped by the raccoon from Pocahontas - I forget his name!!) Again - got it on video.....hey - I could make a fortune by sueing!!

I have been to both and Disneyword in my opinion was much better!! it was much more family friendly and more "themed" Disneyland was a dissapointment to me.

My last trip to Disney World was -- get this -- 15 years ago! It was in January 1990, RIGHT after we'd all left the 1980's. I was only 4½ at the time.

I wish I could go back again because I only remember half the trip. They're lucky I have an awesome memory at all. My parents should have taken us to Disney World when I was older than 4. *sigh* I'm glad we went, but I feel like I got gypped in the whole deal. :(

I've only been to Disneyland because I have never visited anywhere east of the Mississippi River and Illinois. I've been to Disneyland many times but I really want to go to Disneyworld.

I'm definitely going to DL this year for the 50th anniversary. I want to check out the new Space Mountain, which opens next month I believe.

Everythings far away at Disneyworld, Disneyland... both parks are next to each other, and Downtown Disney is basically right outside of the Hotels. And Florida is the nastiest place in the world and I would never go back to that state ever again in my entire life. Epcot was fun, but it's not worth it to go to Florida. Maybe we just went at a bad time with the weather, but LA or Anaheim never has that bad of weather. Florida was mostly swamp, as you're in a bus going from park to park you're driving past smelly swamp land.

People always talk about Disneyworld being better than Disneyland, but it really wasn't. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it was in California or somewhere normal. And not everything seperated from each other.

I was talking to my friend from Florida the other day, and asked her about Disneyworld, since I may be going to Florida later this year, or early next year. She told me that Universal Studios is much better, and that Disneyworld is mostly for kids, as there are only a few rides for grown ups. She brought her 10 and 8 year old niece and nephew to Disneyworld once, and said they were both disappointed, because all the rides were for little kids. I'm not sure how true that is, since I haven't been there, but that's what I was told.

She also told me that I should never go in the Summertime, because all that walking in the Florida heat, and waiting in lines and stuff, really takes it's toll on you physically, whereas places like Universal Studios is air conditioned, so you're more comfortable their. I do plan on going to both Disneyland, and World one day, so I guess I'll decide for myself then.

It sounds like your friend has something against Disney!! My husband and I went down 10 years ago in our mid-thirties and had a BLAST!! There's plenty of rides for all ages!! Sounds like she might have been talking about The Magic Kingdom only - there's sooooo much more to Disney parks than that! We went to Epcot twice, Magic Kingdom once, MGM Studios once, Pleasure Island and Universal. Of all, Universal wasn't bad, but we didn't like it as much as the Disney parks.

ALL are air conditioned (although of all of them, there is more walking and outdoor things at Magic Kingdom so that's why I think she's referring to it only). We were down in late Sept. and it was HOT and HUMID but if you start getting over heated, you just go into a building or ride and you're fine. Lineups weren't bad at all at that time of the year.

By the second day we were there, I realized you don't dress to look good there - I wore shorts, a bathing suit top with a tank top over it, comfortable sneakers (with socks or you'll get blisters like I did!) and my hair up in a ponytail. Carry water with you at all times!

I'd get some brochures from a travel agent or write Disney and Universal and they'll send you their packages so you can see for yourself. I can't see why anyone wouldn't find the vast Disney parks fun at any age! It brought out the kid in us!!

Geez I want to go back sooo badly! I'd love to see the new Animal park and rides.

I've been to Disney World 3 times but its been a good while since Ive been. Not all the attractions are exactly the same, but rides like the former Splash Mountain will have one seat in DL while DW has 2.
