View Full Version : I see Step by Step and Family Matters had some similar eps TVFactFan 06-09-2005, 12:27 PM Both show had episodes about cast members being in a Mexican Jail. JT and Dana was in a Mexican Jail and Waldo was in a Mexican Jail. Also both shows were took trips to Disney World. I know there were more Karen* 06-09-2005, 12:42 PM Of course, that's because both shows were created and produced by the same people (Miller/Boyett and Bickley/Warren). TVFactFan 06-09-2005, 02:13 PM Of course, that's because both shows were created and produced by the same people (Miller/Boyett and Bickley/Warren). i guess that's why both was cancelled at the same time-lol SimpsonsFan 06-10-2005, 08:04 AM i guess that's why both was cancelled at the same time-lol And both shows were picked up for 1 more unsuccessful yr on CBS-lol DukeDevils9192 06-10-2005, 04:04 PM Both shows were forced into the Disney thing. Disney bought ABC around that time and so pretty much every sitcom, including Roseanne, went to Disney. None of the episodes for any show were particularly good. Yeah I found Boy Meets World went to Disney World too Karen* 06-12-2005, 01:44 AM And both shows were picked up for 1 more unsuccessful yr on CBS-lol Yeah...I blame it on CBS, not the creators and producers. tiff7 06-13-2005, 04:43 PM thanks CBS! Tiff7 SimpsonsFan 06-14-2005, 08:41 AM And Full House had a Disney World eps. SimpsonsFan 06-24-2005, 10:30 AM Another similarity is that both shows lost 2 very funny characters during the last 2 seasons. Chain Gang Member 06-24-2005, 11:45 AM I think it would've been better off with Family Matters keeping WAldo(that guy always cracked me up) and Step By Step keeping Cody(he was my favorite character.I think he was kicked off the show because of something that he did wrong in real life) Karen* 06-24-2005, 04:53 PM I think it would've been better off with Family Matters keeping WAldo(that guy always cracked me up) and Step By Step keeping Cody(he was my favorite character.I think he was kicked off the show because of something that he did wrong in real life) I agree. Sasha Mitchell (The guy who played Cody on SBS) got kicked off the cast because he was arrested for domestic violence. :( Brent88 06-24-2005, 10:00 PM It's not CBS's fault the shows were cancelled. ABC had a young audience(hence the family sitcoms) and CBS had a much older audience... when the show moved to CBS the kids and young adults who watched on ABC didn't follow because they didn't know it moved to CBS. ABC certainly wasn't going to promote it and if they aren't watching CBS, how would they know it's on there?? Oh and SBS was portrayed as a spinoff of Family Matters. Remember the 2nd episode where Steve landed in their backyard while they were having a BBQ? TVFactFan 06-24-2005, 10:11 PM It's not CBS's fault the shows were cancelled. A crossover that made no sense since the Winslows lived in Chicago and the Lamberts lived in well u know the rest-lol Karen* 06-25-2005, 01:54 AM No it was just a crossover episode. A crossover that made no sense since the Winslows lived in Chicago and the Lamberts lived in well u know the rest-lol I know! I think the producers wanted to cross over Urkel so SBS would get more buzz, ya know? I don't know if it worked, but hell, SBS lasted for seven seasons! :D TVFactFan 06-25-2005, 02:01 PM I know! I think the producers wanted to cross over Urkel so SBS would get more buzz, ya know? I don't know if it worked, but hell, SBS lasted for seven seasons! :D No it never worked since SBS never was in the Top 30 Karen* 06-26-2005, 06:08 PM No it never worked since SBS never was in the Top 30  That's true too. SimpsonsFan 06-27-2005, 08:21 AM I like SBS and Boy Meets World, but I never understood how they both stayed on for so long w/o even cracking the top 30, at least FM was in the top 30 for 3 yrs. Karen* 06-28-2005, 01:26 AM I like SBS and Boy Meets World, but I never understood how they both stayed on for so long w/o even cracking the top 30, at least FM was in the top 30 for 3 yrs. I agree, I can't believe SBS never made it to the top 30, especially considering that Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers were veterans of classic TV. ohno: SimpsonsFan 06-28-2005, 08:15 AM Yeah, you'd think that at least the 1st season would be in the top 30. DukeDevils9192 06-28-2005, 08:53 AM I like SBS and Boy Meets World, but I never understood how they both stayed on for so long w/o even cracking the top 30, at least FM was in the top 30 for 3 yrs. You've got to remember that the biggest television nights are Monday-Thursday. That's when you want shows in the top 30. You shoot a lot lower on a Friday night and those TGIF shows exceeded expectations. I don't know if it's true, but before TVTome closed down, it noted that BMW ended with an average of a 7.5 rating in its fifth season and that'd make it a larger audience than Joey today. So no, they never did great, but they did very well for their timeslot and that's why they succeeded. Plus, they were great television shows. SimpsonsFan 07-02-2005, 03:43 PM Does anyone know the exact ratings of any of those shows seasons? Just curious. hughpuppies 07-08-2005, 11:10 PM I think it would've been better off with Family Matters keeping WAldo(that guy always cracked me up) and Step By Step keeping Cody(he was my favorite character.I think he was kicked off the show because of something that he did wrong in real life) Sasha Mitchell was found innocent of beating his wife and kids in court. Found out he was protecting his children from his ex-wife who was a drunk and abusive. That is why they let him come back to the show not knowing the show would be cancelled when it was cancelled. SimpsonsFan 07-14-2005, 09:54 AM Did they have to kick him off the show, because I liked Cody alot. fullhousefan91619 12-13-2005, 09:14 PM Another similar episode is they both did a 40's type of story, Urkel wrote a story with Laura as the bad guy, and Cody wrote a story with Carol as the bad guy. And they did an old Western dream, with Urkel as the bad guy on FM and Jean-Luc as the bad guy as SBS.
