View Full Version : Worst stretches of rural Interstate highways in America
The Duke of Spoook! 06-09-2005, 02:29 AM Post pics or describe here what you think is the worst stretch of rural Interstate highway in America (IE curves, sharp curves, many sharp/winding curves, dounhill/uphill grades, potholes, strong winds, high bridges, navagational river bridge crossings, etc).
theshark8777 06-09-2005, 06:36 AM I don't have a pic of it, but I would vote the West Virginia Turnpike.

I-70 between Denver, Colorado and Topeka, Kansas. It's mostly arrow straight, pancake flat, and it induces travelers into sleeping behind the very wheel. And as far as twisty interstates, I-476 at its northernmost mile near Scranton, Pennsylvania and I-81 interchange.
The Duke of Spoook! 06-13-2005, 04:35 AM And a quiz. Name the 3 interstate routes that are not dangerous to drivers, but only pedestrians, kids, bicyclists and pets.
dawsongirl 06-13-2005, 08:45 PM I-35 between Kansas City and Des Moines. The road looks like hell. In Missouri, they're "resurfacing" some of it...which means they're putting blacktop over the concrete. Yeah, great idea. :p

All of the roads here in WV are curvy. If I don't sit up front in the car, I get car sick...Not very pleasant. I'd say one of the worst roads here is 219 that goes into Marlinton. It goes downhill and is VERY curvy. Most out-of-state drivers don't know how to take the curves and they go way on the other side of the road. Route 19 used to be really bad too until they made it 4 lane, but now it's a speed trap. Be careful if you drive through Summersville, WV.

Yeah, and both Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway in Downtown Houston, TX are both winding and curvy and bad, too. Can't put vehicles over 3 tons on it. Over 3 tons is limited to buses only (sorry, can't take the ole' hummer on it.). And just about all the streets in Houston is bad as well (potholes, bumps, etc.
And did I mention this thread is limited worst Interstate Highways only. Not US, state, secondary state or county routes. So remember Blair85, Interstate highways only, please. If you don't know one, thats okay.

Route 19 is an interstate highway. There used to be many wrecks on 19, but I don't think there are as many as there used to be.

I-76 is pretty bad too. It's the most boring stretch of road that leads to I-80, an even MORE boring stretch of road. Colorado east of the Front Range pretty much sucks period.
