View Full Version : R.I.P. TVTOME
I don't know about you guys, but I am going to miss TVTOME when it ceases to excist later this month.
I checked out its replacement website, www.tv.com not even close to TVTOME. They don't have Notes for the episode guide. I am sad TVTOME is leaving. Why are they are taking it away?
TripperFan 06-06-2005, 05:00 PM Wow - I didn't know it was being shutdown. Bummer!
Must not be making money I guess.
gilligan fanatic 06-06-2005, 06:38 PM I checked it out as well its a lot more confusing then TV Tome. by the way at the bottom of each episode section it does have the quote page and ones like it
Coory 06-06-2005, 11:10 PM It takes a while to get used to but once you get used to it youll like it better then TV Tome. It has more features. But SO will always rule.
Superstar 06-07-2005, 04:01 AM TVTome sucks. TV.com is way better
Raisingdad2004 06-07-2005, 04:23 AM I prefer TV Tome, and this is just first impression.
The Design is overpowering, It has Ad's on the Background. Overall it's too flashy.
And TV Tome's friendly URL'S are gone, while TV Tomes URL'S weren't so User Friendly they were Search Engine Friendly - without that, this site could have a hard time getting allot of pages listed.
~*Emma*~ 06-07-2005, 04:37 AM I dunno. tv.com is pretty cool, but nothing beats the original.
~*Emma*~ 06-07-2005, 06:27 AM I dunno. tv.com is pretty cool, but nothing beats the original.
I changed my mind. Don't like tv.com at ALL! It won't let me register with a hotmail email addy.
tvfan0101 06-07-2005, 07:08 AM I read about TV Tome switching over to TV.com a month or so ago. I did not like it then and I like it even less now. TV.com has an awful, awful design. Hardly user friendly at all. It was simple and fast to get to around the TV Tome layout. With TV.com you have to wonder just what they were thinking when they laid things out.
Raisingdad2004 06-07-2005, 08:59 AM It does have some nice features, but is crowded with allot of not needed junk.
The colors certainly are hard on the peepers.
Ant-Lox 06-07-2005, 12:02 PM TV.com looks bad......its too dark...i better save some pages from TVTOME while i can....
MotownMurph 06-07-2005, 12:48 PM From a web design standpoint, TV.com is actually very nice (my only major complaint is that the scrolling action of a lot of pages is slow). The graphical layout is appealing and yes, the ads are flashy, esp. the ones in the background, but CNET does have to make money. (I am actually a web designer, so TV Tome looked "amateur-ish" for me in its design.) It is different from TV Tome, but different doesn't have to mean bad...it just takes some getting used to. The navigation scheme was actually pretty clear-cut for me, (it actually isn't different from TV Tome, just in the way it is visually laid out), and I LOVE some of the interactive features, such as show/episode ratings and the ability to "add" a show to your profile and track it. I do not like that the episode notes are gone, but that's where we come in, since TV.com is supposed to make it easy to submit that kind of information. Still yet, I also like how the site can give you "similar" matches because real TV fanatics will love seeing what other shows they could get into, and I like the "Top Episodes" feature! ;)
Overall, I think TV.com will turn out to be a vast improvement over the old site, once everyone spends some time with it and gets used to it.
Raisingdad2004 06-07-2005, 01:37 PM Well, the Design is fully XHTML Transitional Compliant so thats a plus for people on different browsers, but it does not use mod_rewrite like TV Tome did, although I would assume the HTML files are fake - mod_rewrite, there are still URL'S with query strings, especially on the forums.
Superstar 06-07-2005, 01:47 PM The design looks alot better than TV Tome's did. Its so much more attractive.
dawsongirl 06-07-2005, 04:59 PM Hmm...looks promising. Except the page on the episode guide won't scroll.
musicradio77 06-07-2005, 10:12 PM I missed TV Tome.http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif It was my favorite website.
sbeamish 06-07-2005, 10:37 PM Don't think I care for the new look at all. Maybe I'll get used to it, but don't bet the farm.
factsoflife 06-07-2005, 10:57 PM oh no that means no more fantasy tv!
You can join Fantasy Teevee from their own site, that was not something unique to TV Tome.
http://www.fantasyteevee.com
The overall look of it is nice, but the simplicity of TV Tome is missing. I doubt it will ever be down as much or slow as it has been in the past.

TVFactFan 06-08-2005, 10:44 PM Is anyone a editor of any TV Shows at Tvtome.com? I'm the editor for

I have to register at the new sitetv.com so I can continue to be editor
Miss Golden 06-09-2005, 01:01 AM When does it shut down??
I like the new website. It has all the old features of the original (You won't miss anything. It's all been moved.) plus new sections that, once you get used to them, will be fun to use and very informative too. I like the parts where: they show similar sitcoms to the one that you're looking at, list each series by different categories, and where they give you a chance to rate each series out of 100 (I gave "Full House" a 1! ) and talk about them as well with other fans. Visually, it reminds me of the Zap2it website, which is where you'll find the Fantasy TeeVee game, only I like TV.com's look better. All in all, I give the new site 2 thumbs up!
If there is a website out there that I miss, it's AllYourTV.com. I don't know if they've gone out of business or what but I haven't been able to enter it for over a week now. I would use it to look at the latest Nielsen ratings, since it was the only site I've seen that shows the entire ratings picture, not just the Top 10 or Top 20. If TV.com can do that, then there really is no need to search anywhere else for your TV fix---except here, naturally!

I checked allyourtv.com and I got this:
Thanks for your patience during our move.
The complete AllYourTV.com web site will return Friday evening at 10pm CT.
TVQuack 06-12-2005, 05:49 PM This is my number one go-to site if I needed to know anything about my favorite shows..... :(
TVFactFan 06-14-2005, 02:43 PM Well it's official now, tvtome.com is no longer in existence, it's now Tv.com I don;t know how long it will take me to get used to tv.com
Mr. Television 06-14-2005, 03:38 PM Well it's official now, tvtome.com is no longer in existence, it's now Tv.com I don;t know how long it will take me to get used to tv.com
I don't know if I'm going to like the new site. Do we have to re-register if we were registered at TV Tome?
WilCap 06-14-2005, 04:14 PM yep, just tried TVtome and it took me to TV.com... this sucks
I don't know if I'm going to like the new site. Do we have to re-register if we were registered at TV Tome?
I don't know because I wasn't registered at TV Tome but I did sign in with TV.com. You can find me under my username which is "SalFromCanada".

I'm having a hard time signing up because it keeps giving me an error page.
It keeps telling me my Date Of Birth didn't go through.
G-Force Glockstar 06-15-2005, 05:25 PM I hate tv.com :( It won't work at all on my computer......when I type in tv.com it just does NOTHING!
I want tvtome back!
L&OFan4Eva 06-15-2005, 06:42 PM I want TV Tome back! I hate it when sites are bought out by the Devil.
MotownMurph 06-15-2005, 08:19 PM I hate tv.com :( It won't work at all on my computer......when I type in tv.com it just does NOTHING!
I want tvtome back!
If you type in tv.com in your browser and it doesn't do anything, that could also be a temporary Internet connection problem, or even a software problem. Personally, I've always been able to get to the site, and I probably have one of the iffiest connections around! hehe :p
Also, TV Tome wasn't bought out. If you look at the old site and the new one, you'll notice that they both have the CNET bar at the top, meaning they are owned by the same company.
Mr. Television 06-15-2005, 08:36 PM Everytime I go to TV.Com now my computer sticks.
robby76 06-16-2005, 01:08 AM I got on okay, but the info on there is crap and it's harder to navigate. TV tome was far superior.
MotownMurph 06-16-2005, 01:29 AM Actually, the info, (at least the eppy guides and summaries for the shows I track), is exactly as it was on TV Tome. (Sans the notes, the one feature I really miss.)
Wings#1ShowPeriod 06-16-2005, 02:02 AM I'm going to miss TV Tome because it was simple and easy . TV.com is ok, but TV Tome was better
Raisingdad2004 06-16-2005, 04:09 AM Also, TV Tome wasn't bought out. If you look at the old site and the new one, you'll notice that they both have the CNET bar at the top, meaning they are owned by the same company.
Actually CNET did buy TV Tome, the CNET bar was added to the top of TV Tome while it made the transition from TV Tome to TV.com
MotownMurph 06-18-2005, 05:12 PM Ahhh, okay. Thanks for the clarification. So CNET really did buy it out, only to replace it later. I can see your previous point, then, even if I do like TV.com better.
James 06-19-2005, 03:51 PM I have used tvtome.com, but I rely far more on www.imdb.com, which tends to have actors' and actresses' birthdates for a much greater percentage of its entries than its tvtome.com counterpart.
TVFactFan 06-19-2005, 09:31 PM The best feature of reading episode Guides were the NOTES and it's GONE, DAMM. The Note Feature was the feature that HOOKED me to the site.
Mr. Television 06-19-2005, 09:34 PM The best feature of reading episode Guides were the NOTES and it's GONE, DAMM. The Note Feature was the feature that HOOKED me to the site.
That another feature I'm going to miss.
PrettyinPink55 06-19-2005, 09:46 PM No episode guides on tv.com?
TVFactFan 06-19-2005, 11:07 PM No episode guides on tv.com?
Yes there are episode guides but that feature at the bottom of the episode synopsis which was additional info about the episode is not at the bottom anymore. That feature was called NOTE
robby76 06-20-2005, 01:14 AM The tv.com guest stars info of each episode are not as complete as they were on tvtome. Just thought I'd mention it. It's a shame to see that info go to waste.
PrettyinPink55 06-20-2005, 01:18 AM Oooh! Okay, I see! :(
Magnum 06-23-2005, 04:21 AM Tvtome was 100 times better than the new site. All the old messages from the tvtome forums are gone. All the episode notes are gone. There is less information about tv shows at the new forum, and it is less user friendly.
I am glad I found this place. :)
TVFactFan 06-23-2005, 11:32 AM Correction, the feature NOTE is included with the episode synopsis. You have to click continue and then you will see below-"Episode Notes". So maybe tv.com is not so bad after all
TV Tome was sold for a cool $5 million..

gidgetgrape 06-29-2005, 09:24 PM Holy smoke! I would have sold out too.
Mr. Television 06-29-2005, 09:26 PM Me too.
Magnum 07-02-2005, 11:37 PM TV Tome was sold for a cool $5 million..
http://online.wsj.com/public/article/0,,SB111766950671648760,00.html?mod=todays_free_feature
How much is this place worth?
I hope this is not a new trend on the web. Site A is very popular and supported by a large fan base. Site B is commercial and wants all the members of Site A, so they buy Site A and shut it down.
$5 million is a lot of money.
Magnum 07-02-2005, 11:39 PM Oh, I hate the new tv website, and I refuse to use it. It sucks.
It is time for someone to start a new tvtome, in the spirit of the old community.
robby76 07-03-2005, 12:31 AM Well Site B will be in for a rude awakening and realise they made a huge mistake, cos Site A fans aren't so fickle and actually do care about the contents and navigation (i liked seeing all the season episodes on one page, with guest starts and notes and the number of seasons at the top - quick and easy). Well done to site A for becoming millionaires... I probably would've done it too. Let's hope Site B puts things back the way they were.
Ant-Lox 07-03-2005, 05:09 AM I managed to save some pages before it went under....i only got all the seasons for Frasier, Cheers though...
Chocoholic 07-05-2005, 12:52 PM I tried to be open-minded and give this new TV.com a try, but I just don't like it. TV Tome was much better.
eng51squad51 07-05-2005, 08:39 PM if you like the tvtome`s site you can access the old archives of the site on archive.org the internet wayback machine archives.
