View Full Version : DIRECTV Adds New Channels!
TVJunkie101 06-06-2005, 12:56 PM DirecTV has added several new channels to it's lineup.
They've probably been there for a few weeks (or a month or so) but they are:
Fox Reality Channel - ch. 250
Lifetime Real Women - ch. 261
I was looking for GoodLife/AmericanLife hoping they added that but so far I can't seem to find it so I guess they haven't added it.
At least there is LRW so I can watch Laverne & Shirley again.
So that's where they sent L&S? I knew it wouldn't last long on regular Lifetime.
TripperFan 06-06-2005, 04:46 PM L&S wasn't on Lifetime for very long at all!! I barely remember seeing it!
So are these new channels available with the new cards or can we can them now? * runs to remote to check *
hmmmmmmm - no - neither channel is there yet. 261 is still a religious channel and can't get 250 at all. Must be with the new cards.
(unless I'm getting different channels on my version for some reason)
TVJunkie101 06-06-2005, 05:38 PM Hmm, that's weird TripperFan...
On my DirecTV receiver, it just automatically updates the listings. I don't need to get a new card at all. Maybe try re-starting the receiver? (meaning unplugging it and plugging it back in).
I have TiVo and usually TiVo detects the channels added by DirecTV and they update instantly but they haven't yet.
I don't know what to suggest. Maybe calling up DirecTV and seeing what the problem is. Maybe you do need an updated card (depending on how long yours has been in).

O.k. - I'll give it a shot! Probably an old card though as I notice it's starting to drop channels and give a message on that channel saying a new card is required. It's also a high def receiver - don't know if that would have anything to do with it.
TVJunkie101 06-06-2005, 06:21 PM I'd suggest getting a new card if it's saying that.
I don't think HD should have anything to do with it, but I'm no expert.
Maybe to be on the safe-side, check out the DirecTV website FAQ or call 'em up, because I definitely have those two channels.
TVOne (the African-American channel launched a year or two ago) is also available on 241. Check and see if you get that one.
If you are just changing the channels and not actually entering them, then that could be the problem. Because when I change between, say 260 and 261, it skips 261 (which is the channel LRW is on) and goes to 262 (SoapNet). But if I manually type in 261 and enter, it takes me to the channel. Try that if you haven't already. You'll probably the need to go to Profiles. Then select the default profile your receiver uses and then edit the channels accordingly.
If none of that works, call DirecTV, lol.

I think I better call them. I get NBC on 241!!!!!!
And yeah, no - those channels aren't there on the guide or when I key them directly.
Thanks for the help and heads up! :D

They do. To find out if the schedules are updated, go to:
Messages and Setup
Settings (screen turns to a dark or Navy Blue).
Phone & Network
It shows you the last connection was made and when the next one will be and if it succeeded.
Or, maybe the TiVo has not yet to received a software download to update its services which should be soon if it doesn't happen already.
WilCap 06-07-2005, 04:36 PM There on my Direct, but I got TIVO

Thats cause you have DISH NETWORK and not DIRECTV

Well DirecTV still doesn;t have the ON DEMAND feature that Comcast has for their subscribers to watch any show whenever they get good and ready. Comcast is gaining ground on DirecTV fast. DirecTV better do better than adding LIFETIME REAL WOMEN if they want to stay ahead of Comcast.

< SLAPS HEAD AND BANGS IT ON THE MONITOR!! >
You're right!! I'm thinking about when we had DirecTV!! We switched to Dish about a year and a half ago!! DUHHHHH!
(I get confused - we have a total of four different satellites and cable - our property looks like a division of NASA)!!
Thanks - that definitely solves the mystery!
