Question: Any information about the next season of Joey? — Ellen
Ausiello: Sources say producers are looking to introduce a David Spade-type sidekick to try to liven things up. Among those up for the role: David Spade.
Pavan 06-06-2005, 11:08 AM That's a joke.
Brian Damage 06-06-2005, 11:12 AM Spade would be a bad decision anyway, because just like he did with Just Shoot Me and later 8 Simple rules, it would become the David Spade show.

I'm sure it's true that they are looking for a sidekick to Joey.

Oh PLLLLEASE say it ain't so!! They bring Spade in and as you say - kiss "Joey" goodbye! Can't these execs see that by now?
I've just never liked that guy - he's too "weaselly" to me - like someone brought their pet ferret to your house and it gets loose and takes over!

It won't be Spade. That was just a joke. I know Ausiello's humor--I read his column.
spunkygirl 06-06-2005, 12:01 PM Phew thank goodness it was a joke
glenny 06-07-2005, 06:43 AM Why don't they (any network) give David his own show and see if it would work.
TripperFan 06-07-2005, 09:23 AM Oh thank God it was a joke! He's like the kiss of death as a co-star on shows anymore!
tiff7 06-07-2005, 04:29 PM David Spade was not the reason 8 Simple Rules ended, the show survived the loss of John Ritter on 9/11/03 & David was brought onto the show 2 give the show some juice, the show made it w/out John (even though it was hard on the cast & his fans & family) As 4 David's other shows, such as Spin City, Michael J. Fox wanted 2 leave the show 2 be w/his family & 2 take care of hie Parkinson's.

David Spade didn't join Spin City.
Charlie Sheen took over for Michael J. Fox.

Yea CS replaced MJF in Spin City. I didn't mind him on 8SR but a lot of people didn't like how it was turned into The David Spade Show.
If you're going to bring on a new regular character, bring back Lucy Lui. She was great.

I was thinking that too. I thought that's where they were headed.
If they're going to bring in a "funny sidekick" for Joey, have Chandler (Matthew Perry) join the show for three or four episodes.
Brian Damage 06-08-2005, 10:32 AM If they want a funny sidekick, why not more Howie?

That's what I think they need.... more of what works. Not new characters that'll suck.
David Spade just isn't funny unless Chris Farley is with him, plain and simple.

Besides, what's Perry doing now anyway?

Last I heard, he might be battling some of his demons again. He might not currently be in a position to work. Not sure though - I heard this a couple of months ago and if he could do rehab while still taping on friends, then I guess he could do a couple of appearances.
I hate to say it, but the show does need "something". Still can't put my finger on it, but it's not quite "there" yet. Worries me when a show takes an entire season to really get going.
robyrob 06-12-2005, 05:38 PM thats great
tiff7 06-13-2005, 03:44 PM I think the show needs one of Joey's best "Friends"! :) (Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Phoebe or Monica!) I hope Matthew Perry doesn't end up in rehab again
