View Full Version : Party Poker... is it spyware?
Brent88 06-05-2005, 03:46 PM It's just a desktop application, there's nothing in the programs. I keep deleting it and it re-appears a while later. I've already done this 10 or 15 times in the last 2 days. I've done a spyware scan and gotten rid of everything but it keeps coming up.
Brent88 06-05-2005, 03:55 PM Well... Adware just came up with a "Possible hijack attempt" from something called "Gamehouse.com". I went into programs, found an empty folder with that name and deleted it. Things haven't been right for 2 days now and maybe that was the problem.

This seems like a knew type of hijack.

It's been driving me up the wall since Friday Morning when the first problems started. I've been getting pop-ups(big huge ones too) today but can't find the source. I'm doing Adware again to see what it comes up with. This is getting old. I think the Gamehouse.com stuff may have been it though.
Brent88 06-05-2005, 04:05 PM Well... it seems better. Only thing Adware found that time was a sleuth of tracking cookies(those aren't harmful, right?) and 3 others "Data Miners" which I deleted. I'm reserving judgement on whether the hijacker stuff is gone for a little while.

Thanks a lot, Brent.
Brent88 06-05-2005, 07:53 PM There's a ton out there... Microsoft has one which I may try here soon.
I'm still getting these annoying popups(big ones that take up the whole screen) even though I have a blocker.

I have it and I absolutely love it. Microsoft actually made something useful, for once. It's very thorough, and it prompts you on everything to make sure you don't accidentally uninstall/install something that you want to keep/delete.

But I can't find the program... I've run the spyware remover and it's not coming up.

I'm going too... I just deleted a bunch of popup sources that I recognized. I don't know what I'm going to do if this doesn't work. My uncle's a computer whiz so I guess I'll have to drag him over here.
Warm & Fuzzy 06-05-2005, 11:46 PM I'm getting the same thing! I scanned w/ both AdAware & Spybot..... no spyware. So, then... why is the damn Party Poker icon stil popping up?? :wallbang

Brent88 06-05-2005, 11:51 PM I haven't gotten the Party Poker icon in several hours, but this spyware is terrible. SurfSideKick is back again. I'm about ready to throw this in the road.
Karen* 06-06-2005, 01:37 AM Oh good....I thought I was the only one getting the same problem! :D
Dutabi84 06-06-2005, 09:16 AM I have party poker on 3 different computers, my uncle has it, and I haven't had any problems with spyware from it. There must be an unrelated piece of spyware that's causing it to reappear constantly.

Here's the thing... it's not in the programs, it's only on the desktop. That's how I could tell it wasn't normal.

That is really strange. Is the icon a red poker chip with yellow stripes and a dollar sign in the middle?

Yes... it's even got the partypoker.com website listed in the properties(it came up again this morning BTW).
Seinatra 06-06-2005, 11:04 AM Well apart from the Spyware, has anyone won any money on Party Poker?
I have been playing on Poker Rewards, but just in free games.
James"Thunder"Early 06-06-2005, 11:35 AM Yes... it's even got the partypoker.com website listed in the properties(it came up again this morning BTW).I got rid of mine, I had to use KillBox to get rid an executable and a dll with a gibberish name.

Yeah, I had a ton of those, but the Microsoft program got rid of them.

Yeah, I've won some. I've also lost, but talking about the winning is more fun. :)
You run into a lot of bad players if you do low stakes, unfortunately. My cousin has made around $15,000 online the last 2-3 months playing middle stakes games, and it's too easy to see your money deplete in big money games. Be careful with money!
bossradio93 06-07-2005, 04:20 PM maybe you can help me on this one... how do you search for Spyware on your computer?
I have a program from StompSoft called "Spyware X-terminator" and it works wonders for me! It constantly monitors the 'Net' for spyware on your computer and displays a list of spyware files and emits a siren sound when it finds them. You run a spyware scan and you can add additional drives you want to be scanned to find the pests. You can either have "Spyware X-terminator" downloaded and installed on your PC or you can purchase a copy at any computer/electronics store.
StompSoft has great products such as spam blocker, virus scan, email protection to keep your PC running smoothly and healthy to make your Internet experience more enjoyable.

I dont know too much about Stompsoft, but "Spyware X-terminator" is on the list of "known bad" "spyware removal tools" - they basically rip-off legitimate companies' products, and are altered so that they will "overlook" and wont remove spyware that is made by them, and will in fact install new spyware in some cases.
