What would you do?

By that I mean, which characters would be in it? What kind of stories would you do? How would you separate it from the original 1972-83 series?

Of course making a new M*A*S*H series would be pointless since the original was done so well and lasted so long. But that aside, what would you do?

TV Adam's Idea
++++++++++++

My "M*A*S*H" series would try to be more accurate than the original. First off, I would have a deal to make only three seasons. That's right, the show would be tha actual length of the Korean War. Also it would be a mixture of the movie and TV series.

My Main Characters would be:

Season 1:
Capt. Hawkeye Pierce
Capt. Duke Forrest
Capt. Trapper John McIntyre
Lt. Col. Henry Blake
Cpl. Radar O'Reilly
Major Margaret Houlihan
Major Frank Burns

Season 2:
Capt. Hawkeye Pierce
Capt. Duke Forrest
Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt
Lt. Col. Henry Blake
Cpl. Radar O'Reilly
Major Margaret Houlihan
Major Frank Burns

Season 3:
Capt. Duke Forrest
Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt
Capt. Maxwell Klinger
Col. Sherman Potter
Cpl. Radar O'Reilly
Major Margaret Houlihan
Major Frank Burns

Through the 3 year run, Trapper John and Henry Blake go home. Unlike the original, Blake actually makes it home. Even Hawkeye goes home early. Unlike the TV series, Klinger (Hawkeye's replacement) is a surgeon. Like the series, he dresses in drag and tries other stunts to get out. Frank and Maragaret have a relationship, but breakup mid season two. Margaret then falls for Hawkeye. Hawk considers dating her, but decides to not get tied down during the war.

What are your ideas for your own M*A*S*H show?

I agree with you about making it more realistic, especially in the OR. I am an operating room nurse and sometimes I just want to scream at the TV during the OR scenes because it is not realistic. Ironically, I wanted to be an OR nurse because of M*A*S*H but now that I am one, those scenes make me crazy sometimes!

Interesting ideas.

I do like the idea of mixing up the casts from the film and the different eras of the series. It would be interesting to see Henry Blake and B.J. working side by side.

If I had my druthers, I would prefer the series to be filmed on location. I was never too crazy about all the soundstage filming.

I would make it less pro-Communist than the original. In my version, I'd have the woman in "guerrilla my dreams" actually portrayed as a villain, instead of the intel officer. Call me a radical, but I think a communist guerrilla whose goal is to murder Americans shouldn't be defended quite as much.

I think I would make the gang act more like adults or teenagers and let the war be set in the war against Iraq. I hate Saddam Huissen so much

There's an idea. I guess M*A*S*H wouldn't have to be set in the Korean war.

I'd make it a cartoon series. I'm already working on that. Why? Who knows. :nerd: And, like other people, make it a little less liberal and put everyone together. ;)

Agreed. The show shouldn't be remade or 'reconceived' or re-anything.

On the other hand, if I had a time machine, I would go back and prevent Alan Alda from taking creative control of the series; I don't have any real objections to his politics, but the show stopped being funny when he took over.

It would just like the original and it would be a satire, or I have an idea called "Teen Help Center" which is a paordy, I made up, which is this sitcom made in the 1970s and early 80s which has a very odd cult following centering around a camp-like place for juvinile delinquints in the country somewhere in the 70s and the people who work there only it's different in many ways ("Klinger" is 100% female and kind of an airhead, "Radar" is 12 when the show starts and going through the akward years of puberty and he has braces with with head gear)

M*A*S*H was never "pro-communist" ffs... The point was that all sides had a different take on the war and that everyone involved was HUMAN and that war affected ALL people in different and often terrible ways ,no matter WHAT "side" they were on. sheesh

well, first I'd also make sure it just went on for 3 years, and not go beyond that; and I'd STICK to that decision. Also, I'd be sure to keep it the way it was those first 3 seasons. And, I'd NEVER let Alan Alda get creative control, and make it "THE ALAN ALDA SHOW".

As for casting, I'm not sure, but I know one thing: I CERTAINLEY wouldn't hire whoever's in charge of casting the roles for that upcoming "DALLAS" movie!!! Whoever's doing that should be shot!!!

John Travolta & J. Lo as J.R. and Sue Ellen!! OH MY GOD!!!!
