View Full Version : Cindy Snow
Number 9 Dream 06-03-2005, 12:36 PM So, I'm sure all of you have an opinion on her-- so, what is it?
Ok, personally, she isn't my favorite character in the whole world. I don't HATE her but she certainly isn't my favorite blonde my any means. Thing is, I think Jenilee Harrison did the best she could under those tense circumstances...I mean, just imagine coming in to a war zone after the whole Suzanne Somers fiasco and having to "fill her shoes", so to speak. Audiences were expecting "Chrissy". She was also only 21(?) or something when she arrived on the set-- and wasn't overly experienced in the acting field.
So, I forgive her for her mediocre acting skills. I was watching her on the episodes last night and she's not THAT bad-- she just overdoes it.
So, what do you all think about her?
Kristen J. 06-03-2005, 12:44 PM I agree with everything you said! That would be hard for anyone to walk onto the set of America's #1 show and take the place of everyone's favorite blonde. I wouldn't be able to do it! So I think it takes a lot of guts for a newcomer to do that. She's not my favorite character or actress, but I thought that Jenilee did a pretty good job.
Number 9 Dream 06-03-2005, 12:47 PM Yeah, she certainly did....you could tell she was very nervous. Plus, the other actors had already formed friendships and all that, so it must've been hard to be "the new girl". And considering what Priscilla has already mentioned, the producers were quite nasty to her coming on the set...Jenilee must've experienced the same.

Ya, that's EXACTLY what I would have said. She's my second favorite blonde. They knew that she was an under experienced actress and they didn't guide her enough or help her along. I think she did the best she could under the circumstances. I don't think that they gave her the best material to work with either. They tried making her another stupid blonde. I don't know if it work have worked if they made her the smart blonde. Who knows it might have.

Same here.I think Terri's a mixture of both blondes before her. They're all beautiful, she's smart like Cindy and sometimes she says dumb stuff like Chrissy. That's a true quote with Terri being a little like Chrissy.
Jack:Terri, how would you feel if your roomate went out with you,got disgustingly drunk, took advantage of you and doesn't even remember?
Terri:That doesn't sound like Janet
 I love Terri

Number 9 Dream 06-03-2005, 01:19 PM Hehehe, yea, I like Terri being a mixture of the two. Terri is sort of tied as being my favorite blonde with Chrissy. Although I do like the stupidity of Chrissy, I also enjoyed Terri's wit. It's hard to choose between the two for me.
I think they really tried to make Cindy the clumsy goofball...and I really don't think she was suited for the part.

I agree with everything you said %100! I both love Terri and Chrissy as my number one favorite blonde. I feel really bad for Jenilee because she was so young and a new actress - not to mention a cheerleader. Trying to fill in for Chrissy is kind of hard, and you need the right person to do that.
Moonlight Lady 06-03-2005, 03:30 PM I liked Cindy, she was okay. Terri's my favorite though.
I Love John Ritter 06-03-2005, 07:07 PM I thought Jenilee did a pretty okay job under the circumstances. The producers knew she wasn't an experienced actress, what did they expect? She was a rams cheerleader for crying out loud! She had to come in and fill in the place of the blonde. Chrissy was very popular, and I'm sure that coming onto the set and playing Cindy was not an easy task for her, so I give her props for what she did. I liked Cindy, but she was not my favorite blonde.

Mr. Television 06-03-2005, 07:23 PM Cindy was good. Jenilee had it hard replacing Suzanne who was a media sensation at the time. I don't think anyone could have done it especially on such short notice.

I think that maybe the producers wanted someone 'green' to fill in and perhaps take the heat as Suzzanne's replacement. Then they could take a little time to find an experienced actress for a permanent replace...Priscilla Barnes!

I hated her character because a grown women is not supposed to be clumsy. It just looked odd for a women to be knocking sh*t over-lol
Edster2973 06-04-2005, 10:21 AM I think they really tried to make Cindy the clumsy goofball...and I really don't think she was suited for the part.
The problem with Cindy overall is that the producers under-developed her character. When Cindy was first brought on the show, the expectation was that Suzanne would come back to the show once things blew over. In the meantime, they needed a 'blonde' to fill the Chrissy spot 'temporarily'. Suzanne wasn't fired yet because ABC still wanted her on the show (even though the producers wanted her gone). ABC was afraid the show would flop without Suzanne (which makes you wonder why ABC didn't give in to her demands if they thought she was so integral to the success of the show). So Cindy was a last minute addition who wasn't really given a lot of thought where character depth was concerned.
Later on in the season, when Cindy was on for about 6 or 7 episodes in Season 5, Suzanne went public with her complaints and asked fans to demand that she be put back on the show (instead of just the measly 1 minute tag). ABC was furious with this and that's when they gave the go ahead to the producers to fire Suzanne.
When this happened, they realized they needed a replacement for Suzanne. Cindy, a one dimensional character at best, would not fit the bill.
This isn't a reflection on Jenilee Harrison. She did a remarkable job and I give her all the credit in the world. And I'm not trying to sound charitable by saying that. She isn't to blame for Cindy's mediocrity. The producers are. They clearly didn't spend enough time developing the character because, again, everyone involved thought Suzanne would come back, so why bother?
In either case, there are some fave episodes of mine that have Cindy involved, especially where John Ritter doubles up as Austin.
Good job Jenilee. Had you not been as good as you were, there may not have been a Season 6. Heaven knows the material you were given wasn't the best, that's for sure...

Chain Gang Member 06-04-2005, 12:11 PM I think the reason that Cindy was written out of the show is because Jennilee had to try to have a better character than Suzanne, but Priscilla came in as Terri and did a better job at her character than Jennilee.I think if Priscilla wasn't good at playing Terri, then Cindy would've moved back in and Terri moved out.I like Cindy more than Chrissy, but I like Terri more than Cindy
Laike 06-05-2005, 03:33 AM Her character early on was a perfect fit. But they made her really dumb as the years went on, so I'm glad she didn't come back.
If they would have left her alone, and then she stayed for every season, it would have been great.

The One thing that I wonder is, how come John never spoke about Jeanilee in past interviews on 'Three's Company'? I'm sure he liked her as well as Joyce and Susanne(before she become money hungry) even though she didn't have much acting experience(from what I've heard in the past).
Number 9 Dream 06-06-2005, 12:27 PM Hmm that is odd. I wonder if she didn't want to be associated with the show? Maybe he knew that or something...now I'm confused.

Number 9 Dream 06-06-2005, 07:07 PM Has John ever mentioned how he got along with Jenilee? I am curious.
Edster2973 06-06-2005, 07:48 PM I think the reason that Cindy was written out of the show is because Jennilee had to try to have a better character than Suzanne, but Priscilla came in as Terri and did a better job at her character than Jennilee.
There is no need to speculate actually. Terri's character was performed better simply because she was a better character than Cindy. It had nothing to do with Jenilee. If Priscilla Barnes had acted out the part of Cindy Snow, Cindy Snow would've still been uninteresting when compared to Chrissy & Terri. Cindy wasn't intended for any permanence. She was created to fill the spot for Chrissy temporarily until she came back. Since that never happened, they opted to create another blonde character. Hence the character Terri.
I think if Priscilla wasn't good at playing Terri, then Cindy would've moved back in and Terri moved out.I like Cindy more than Chrissy, but I like Terri more than Cindy
Priscilla was good at playing Terri, but they knew this because they auditioned her. It wasn't hit or miss. They knew what they were getting into with the actress. It's a good thing. As much as I missed Chrissy, Terri was easy to get attached to. :)

Cindy was fine for what they originally intended her for, as a temporary stand-in for Chrissy. But as a third co-star for the show, sorry, she wasn't that good of a character. Jenilee was a good actress, but the material she was given to act the part was sub-par.
As for Cindy's duration, you speak as if she was on the show for a number of years. She wasn't. She was on for only 1/2 of Season 5 (approximately, give or take a few episodes) and then was reduced to cameo appearances in Season 6. Hardly a mainstay, no?

Jenilee was interviewed after John died and it seemed like she got along with him fine. She was pretty broken up about it.

When I read the title, I thought it said Chrissy Snow. Nevermind. Ignore my post.
looseink 06-20-2005, 07:58 PM I have to say I thought Jenilee was a fine actress, given the circumstances. I believe she appeared in 16 episodes in total as the full-time room mate of Jack and Janet, then just cameos once Terri moved in.
Cindy was just plain goofy. Her one scene with Jack and an ironing board is sheer genius! I do have to ask though...was the set the show was filmed on just unusually cold or what? Cindy was also shot in very, umm, interesting camera angles. I will say it would have gotten pretty old if she had been on any longer than she was. The character of Terri was an excellent addition and created some interesting dynamics to the show.
Mr. Furley was always priceless. For my money he was the funniest thing on the show!
James28 03-02-2008, 11:35 PM Was Cindy a pretty girl? I know there are a lot of pretty girls in Three's Company, such as Stacey and Lulu from the the Snow Job episode.
johntealman 03-05-2008, 03:25 AM How did they get Suzanne Somers to do some cameos after she was canned form the show? You know those episodes where she is calling from another phone. Was that filmed before or after she was let go?
BarneyFife 03-05-2008, 09:44 AM At the time, she was not yet fired.

I never noticed that!
Edster2973 03-20-2008, 09:28 AM I never noticed that!
It'd be kind of hard to given that the pic is a shot of movement that lasts less than a second long. In this day and age where the average viewer can manipulate the controls of freeze frame, some discretion is advised, but back then, it was simply not thought of because someone having that capability was highly unlikely. Many viewers didn't own VCRs back then, let alone TV sets on DVD. VCRs, while in existence, were still a little pricey for the average consumer.

TVFactFan 03-20-2008, 08:49 PM Cindy's looks was overshadowed by her clumsiness/goofiness
No matter how pretty a girl is if she is clumsy and has a goofy laugh she will become unattractive
James28 03-21-2008, 01:34 PM Is that 3rd pic in Ohio8's post some kind of slight wardrobe malfunction? If so, I wouldn't want my wife to wear a bellyshirt like that. I would have preferred that "I (heart) UCLA" shirt, shorts, and sandals.
