View Full Version : Take away Games from "View New Posts"

It gets to be anyoning when you are looking for new posts to find the whole screen dominated by Chit Chat Games, which are hardly comparable to real posts.

If you want to play the games go the game board, at least with "new posts" we can see the entire spectrum of the site, but with the games as part of it it can dominate pages and pushes all other topics way back.

The same can be said for Random posts, but people at least tend to have conversations once in a while.

Am I alone on this?

I'll back you on it! Sometimes I have to go through two or three pages to find threads I was interested in and posting on. If there was a was to filter the games it would be great.

Thanx guys!!!

(and if not, just ignore me......I must be hallucinating again)!

UPDATE: Yup - I was hallucinating.. the games are back....must have just been a lull.

I agree with you.

I do agree the Games can be ridiculous. I do believe some people use them to boost post totals which is stupid.

I wouldn't mind not having to sift through dozens of games threads every time I check for new posts. I don't begrudge people their fun -- although how most of those threads fall under the definition of "games" is beyond me -- but I agree that using them to boost post counts is annoying. It's also a violation of posting rule #7, the one about "quality over quantity". Some people don't seem to take that one seriously at all.

I go to this one other message board that looks like Sitcoms Online (just the board styles) and post counts don't count when you post on games.

Anyway, it shouldn't matter to anyone how many posts they have and it shouldn't matter if they do it.

EDIT--ugh, am I making ANY sense??

Yea some of the game posts do get to me especially if theirs a lot of them and you have to dig through them to get to the regular post. Of course I post over there ( not as much as some)and I do know that their are some nice people there. I really don't think most of them use it just to raise their post count.

I agree, I post there alot when I'm bored and there's nothing else to do
Plus, some of those games are pretty fun :D

I wonder if making that board unsearchable will remove them from the New Posts list. I'll try that.

I'm sorry, I don't understand

that board doesn't bother me or anything, but it's the biggest waste of space on the internet i've ever seen. if there were actual games on there that had a point there wouldn't be anything wrong with it, but it's just thousands upon thousands of posts like "NAME A CD COVER WITH A WHITE BACKGROUND!" "RATE THE PICTURE ABOVE!" "A-Z BASKETBALL TEAMS!" the random posts can be a bit the same but they're mostly for socializing like a chat room, not posting meaningless junk.

Some games on there are playable, but the ones like "Name a squirll from Ohio" and the A-Z games a pretty pointless.

The What Time Is It Game is too although I've posted there when I'm bored.

I have to bump this up and again ask to have Games removed from "view new posts"

It dominates the new posts all the time and is a waste for people who actually want to see what others are talking about.
(I know this post will be at the bottom of new posts in a minute due to the "games")

I also suggest that games should not count toward post counts since I swear people are doing them just to up their total.
Some people have hundreds on one thread.
And dozens within 10 minutes.

If that isn't blatantly trying to up your post count I don't know what is.

Did the experiment fail or did you reconsider?

Any chance of this happening?

That didn't work. It only made them unsearchable. The 'View Today's Active Threads' and 'View New Posts' are completely seperate from the search. I don't think that not counting posts will cause there to be that many less threads on there.

Believe me, I've looked into it.. there are similar requests on the official vBulletin forums on how to do it and I don't see anything that will work. Hopefully somebody will develop a plugin for vBulletin 3.5 and I will upgrade to that.

I wanted to throw in a suggestion...kinda related to this thread, as dlemond brought it up. Would it be possible for posts made at Random Posts to NOT count towards your post count? I have thousands of posts I made over there and I keep deleting old posts so my post count doesn't go any higher. It would be great if that was possible. It would also discourage future spammers from trying to spam up the threads. We DO have chats but it spans many posts.

I strongly urge you (or Seth) to pursue this suggestion, like you guys did with the Testing Pad board. Of course, my post count counter would have to be reset because if you did so, I would have a negative post count.

It's just an idea...Many of the people who have 10K+ posts post on Random Posts, so...

There is a modification availible, the only problem being you either ban a whole forum or you have to manually mark topics as games.

Is that the real reason you delete a lot of your posts? I thought you did it because you didn't want any personal information that somebody might be able to dig up on you. You seem to delete posts on other boards, just not the random one.

If you are doing it just because you don't want your post count high - then please let me or Seth know and we will just reset or lower your total.. because it is a little annoying for me to go through the moderator log every
day and see you deleting page after page of posts daily. :)

Wow, that's cool. I didn't know you could do that. I PMed Seth and asked him to do that for me, as I have a ridiclously high post total due to the random board.

I think this link may work, you can replace 346 (Games) or 417 (Random) or add additional boards you don't want to view. I think this would only work for 'View New Posts' and not 'View Today's Active Threads.'
