I am getting some popups this morning with the header "Aurora". I went to uninstall in the Programs and it says it's an ad system that came with some free software and is not spyware. Is that true... is it harmful to the computer or not?

www.mypctuneup.com (http://www.mypctuneup.com) That's the uninstall website.

I went ahead and got rid of it... the popups were coming every minute. I haven't installed any programs this morning so I know it didn't come with anything, and these weren't showing up yesterday.

Glad you were able to disable it.

A while back, somehow I got nailed with a "Viewpoint" browser or something that installed itself and now I can't get rid of it. It hasn't done anything to my system, but its just annoying as it sat itself in my toolbar, and if you aren't accurate with your curser on the scroll bar, it'll make it dropdown onto your screen. Its a major pain in the butt. My husband hasn't had the time to look at it to get rid of it for me.

I got smacked w/ Viewpoint too... run a SPYBOT... or go into your add/remove programs and get rid of it, that's what I did.

That's just it - I tried removing it from the Control Panel and it wouldn't take. We also have Ad-Aware - not sure if its as good as SPYBOT, but it didn't clear it or quarantine it either.

Now my Start Menu is messed up... Above the big icons there are a series of programs(above all programs) and they are missing.

Some evil push technology is very annoying to get rid of because there are all these little system files that can rest in different locations.

You can also try and clean it using registry editor; however, you MUST know how to get around regedit. Otherwise, you can screw your computer up badly. I won't post how to do this because I don't want anyone to screw it up if they don't follow the instructions well. ;)

So your programs are missing above "All Programs?" As you open programs, they will "pin" themselves onto the Start Menu. There's a way to enable/disable that by doing the following:

Right-click on your taskbar > go to "Start Menu" tab > click on "Start Menu" radio button > click on "Customize" button on the right > right under the "Programs" header, you can set it to how many "recently opened" programs you want to appear > click "Ok" twice.

Hope that helps. :)

Yeah... I recovered them. I don't really care if that is messed up(since 99% of the time I access them a different way anyway), it just worried me in that the problem might spread to other things, like not being able to open programs, but so far no sign of that.
