I firmly believe in that notion.

I recently approached a person (my crush) who was painfully shy and got him to open up and talk with me at a more comfortable pace. It felt nice! We have been keeping in touch, and I got to know more about what he's been going through. He hasn't said anything to me about opening up to him, but I feel like I did my part and that is a centrally nice feeling from one human to another.

I then think to myself, "Well, even if I don't get a 'thank you' or anything, it's what comes from my heart."

And I'm not the person! :D :p

Yup - I always try to make a difference - no matter how small it might seem. Even a compliment to someone you don't even know might make their whole week.

I am always thinking of ways to "pay it forward".

Yes, one person can make a difference! Believe it or not, but sometimes if you're having a really bad day and someone says something really nice to you, it helps brighten your day a little bit.

John Walsh comes to mind. After the brutal murder of his son Adam in 1981, John turned his grief into a crusade to catch criminals. His show, America's Most Wanted, does this country a great service.

I admire that man a great deal. He's a shining example of one person making a difference.

Yes, and didn't he organize the center for missing and exploited children? Before him every state had their own, and he got one national database. A lot of people who had that happen to their kids have turned around to help others. Pauly Klaas' father for one, but John Walsh pretty much started it all.

Remember when Fox cancelled it in the mid 1990s, 1996 maybe?, and the huge response it got from viewers didn't keep it off the air long.

Yes, I was one of those viewers, and yes...Walsh and his wife founded the National Center For Missing & Exploited Children.

I have deep admiration for John Walsh. He's a true hero to me. I'm glad others have followed his lead.

He is for me too - its not only National, but International. Now there's a guy who took a horrific situation and made sure Adam didn't die in vain.

And even tho she can be annoying at times, Oprah has made a huge difference in the world. I'd love to have her kind of money and opportunity also.

OMG...has anyone ever looked at the missing kids website?? It is the saddest and scariest website out there.

I knew eh? And imagine when it wasn't even around - how many kids would never be recovered? Even when its a parent who takes them its horrible.

one person + weapons of mass destruction = difference.

One person + kind word + honest smile = even bigger difference.

I'm a firm believer in a single person making a difference. And it doesn't only apply for the better. An insensitive or violent act can change everything. So I've focused my efforts on making a positive difference. I'm fascinated my the notion that a single smile could brighten a stranger's day. After all, in this life, a person can forget so easily that he is important and part of a greater whole that needs him. A smile can remind that person.

Now, tragic acts can be devastating. But I believe kind acts are the ones that will truly last forever.

John Walsh is an amazing person. Most people would crumble if something like that happened (and rightfully so...I can't imagine the pain), but he turned around and did something about it to help others. He's a true hero.
