View Full Version : I wonder why Isabel Sanford had such a negative attitude toward her new show back in
TVFactFan 06-02-2005, 03:21 PM 1975 called the Jeffersons. Isabel said on a Reunion show that she never wanted to leave all in the family because she felt the Jeffersons owuld only last a month. Why go into a new show with that type of attitude?-lol If anything, she should have made sure she done her best so that it wouldn';t be cancelled.
Brian Damage 06-03-2005, 11:18 AM I can understand her reservations. All in the Family was a bonafied hit and the Jeffersons was unproven.

But Carroll O Connor and Jean Stapleton was unproven in 1971 and worked together to make the show hit so Isabel and Sherman was supposed to do the same, Right or Wrong?

She was comfortable and fortunate that she had a job. She felt the same way Norman Fell felt when he was about to do The Ropers.

But she was being offered a promotion. A chance for her to show what she has and make a name for herself. So she was supposed to be thrilled not hesistant-lol If your boss offered you a promotion would you take it and welcome the challenge or say to yourself-"i may not want to take this because I may not do well"-LOL That was the attitude Isabel had back in 75.

I understand what you are saying, but Isabel wasn't the only one who had reservations with having their own show. Norman Fell did with the Ropers and so did Charlotte Rae with the Facts of Life. As a matter of fact, Rae made sure to put it in her contract that if FOL was cancelled that she would return to Diff'rent Strokes. Look at Fell, after the Ropers were cancelled, he was out of a job! It is one thing to get a spin off when a show ends, but to get one while a show is still successful is quite another.
alienkattuk 07-04-2005, 01:50 AM What about Marla Gibbs on Checking In?
I bet Marla felt the same way that Isabel felt about a new spin off.
Marla have a sure job on The Jeffersons
Not all actors want to leave the comfort of a good paying job.

I'm not sure how Marla felt but atleast she was able to return to the Jeffersons after Checking In was cancelled. I'm not sure if Isabel and Sherman would have been able to return to the All in the Family if the Jeffersons was cancelled.

No George didn't fire her, she took the job because she was Offered the Job and it was more money
liane49 04-22-2015, 01:43 PM Isabel said at first she wouldn't go to the Jeffersons until they planed to replace her.
mets82 04-22-2015, 05:00 PM I can see her point. I mean when your on AITF your really funny because your not over exposed. But when you have your own show, whose to say you wont be over exposed by episode 5?
Lil_Weezy_Is_Back 06-16-2015, 08:34 PM I totally understood her wanting to stay with the "sure thing" as she said ....but I'm so glad Norman gave her the ultimatum or else we wouldn't got to really see her gift...

Plus it may had something to do with black shows being new at the time and she felt it was a slim chance it would succeed
OH Nuts! 06-21-2015, 11:31 AM I totally understand how she felt; show biz can be a real fickle business. But what a wonderful surprise it must have been for the show to become such a smashing success. The J's was truly a wonderful show.

She also could have been thinking that since they were black that was their sneaky way of getting them off the show lol

TVFactFan 07-20-2015, 11:21 PM What ultimatum?
Either she do the Jeffersons or be unemployed because the Louise character will no longer exist on All in the Family.
