View Full Version : TV Guide Cover
TVFactFan 06-02-2005, 03:04 PM Well it appears that this show was too bad since two of the cast members appeared on the front cover of tv guide. I will have to watch more eps of this show to give an honest evaluation. I only watched one episode and i wasn;t too eager watch another one.

So I wonder was the show ever popular? I always thought a show had to be popular to be on the TV Guide front cover
Jude The Obscure 03-19-2008, 11:20 PM Very popular in the South! :D
Ireneparalegal 03-19-2008, 11:31 PM When characters appeared on the cover, wasn't there usually an article inside?

Yes it was. It was rerunned in NC for many years. I actually became a fan more from the syndicated airings. I don't think I watched it much during it's original run.

I remember when it was on but I think it aired on Thursday nights and then on Saturdays. Thursday night was CBS night ( mainly because of the Waltons) and Saturdays was CHIPS.

Yup, any time the cast of a show appeared on a tV guide front cover there was a article inside
Ireneparalegal 03-20-2008, 07:33 PM So, obviously there was a reason why two characters were on the cover, it had nothing to do with how well a show was doing or not. TV Guide over the years has had all kinds of people on the cover. I have the TV Guide from 1990 ( I believe that is the year, I have to go look) where Madonna is on the cover.

I know that but usually when cast members of a show was on TV guide it was a HIT. Carter country was far from that and I will show you in a sec
Ireneparalegal 03-20-2008, 08:05 PM Here are the ratings for season 1 and 2 of Carter Country
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19.6 (#29) for season 1
14.9 (#78) for season 2
info from-"Blacks and White TV" F. Macdonald, 1983
^^^That is what you posted, but what does that have to do with a tv guide cover? You already agreed with me that a show doesn't have to be a hit to get a tv guide cover. So what did you prove? That a low-rated show was a show that I liked?

That thread was just fun facts. But i always thought TV guide interviewed cast members of a show that a lot of people were watching. so it is a little surprising to me

Not always. I know there are times a show or characters were featured on the cover and the related article had nothing to do with the actual actors themselves. You collect TV guides don't you? You should know by looking at your collection and the articles inside.

There it is.
jehobden 12-17-2009, 08:55 PM If I remember correctly from the TV Guide microfilm at my college, the cover article was a profile of Victor French. Shows that were even less successful got TV Guide covers too. In July 1977, TV Guide had Don Rickles & Peter Isacksen from CPO Sharkey on the cover, and Isacksen was the subject of the cover profile. The cover was interesting. To accentuate their height difference, the photographer had Rickles standing on a box to look Isacksen in the eye.

During July of 1977, CPO Sharkey was a HIT SHOW. It wasn;t until early 1978 when the show was not as popular.
