View Full Version : Was Michael kissing another man in drag in this ep??

Ok, homosexuality isn't a big issue with me & I've been hearing rumors about his sexuality & what not. I don't know if this has been discussed before but I was watching an episode yesterday. The one where Florida was allergic to the plant & Michael ended up in jail. There was one scene where Florida was wondering where Michael was & she opened the door & there he was kissing a girl who wore a light blue dress. I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me but I could have sworn that was a dude in drag. They didn't show much of the female. I just wanted to know what everyone thought?

It's been discussed, in this thread. (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=72667) If I've seen this episode, it's been a long time, so I don't remember. I have to wait until it's on dvd or shown on TV Land, but I have a hard time believing they would go through the trouble of having a guy dress like a girl just because Ralph Carter would rather kiss a guy.

So you really think at that time Raplh Carter was all out and open to the cast and crew and they had a guy dress as a woman just so he wouldn't actually have to kiss a female? If you're that convinced, I can't wait to see this episode. I gotta see it for myself.

I got that episode on tape. I had to keep looking at that. At first, it looked like a real girl, but when they show the hallway, when Penny and Kim Fields exit, the "girl" and Michael separated, and that's where you could tell that could be a dude. I can't believe after watching GT over and over like I have, I couldn't catch that. But, when you are into the show, you don't look for stuff like that.

I don't understand something. If that really was a dude, why wouldn't Ralph Carter want a female to kiss even if he's gay or not? I mean it's just acting, it's not like he would have to get involved with the female he's kissing & get married to her! I wondered if any of the audience members noticed that!?

Then why would Michael kiss that other girl? I forgot the name of the eipsode, but they were having a party and they were locking lips like never before. Wait a minute!! It was when that guy tried kill himself in their apartment. She was the same girl Michael was afraid of in a previous episode. She liked JJ instead. Yvonne was her name.

Not necessarily. I'm sure the audience can see the actors moving around on the set when they're setting up for the scene. They're not seeing the shot from the same angle as the camera. Unless they had a bag before the person's head and took it off right before they shot the scene to hide the person's gender, the studio audience could probably tell.

nerrad
06-16-2005, 10:21 AM
Michael was a bold..um guy.. to do that. I wonder what the cast members thought. However, maybe they didn't know that the female would actually be a man indrag. If they did knew, talk about keeping things under wraps for years. And it took us fans to peep it.

There are girls who have mustaches.

I don't know, maybe it was a guy. I just have a hard time believing that they would go through the trouble of having a dude dress as a girl for Michael to do a kissing scene. It seems like a lot to go through.

Um, I didn't see this. But I really don't understand why they would have a drag queen come on set to make out with someone. I don't know anything about how much time this person spent on screen, but unless that being a man having a big impact on the episode, I don't think they'd go to the trouble.

Probably an ugly girl.

the character Michael was kissing was not listed in the closing credits which confirms it was a male dressed as a female.

Yeah, that proves it.

It might just be acting, but if you were an actor and asked to kiss another guy for a scene, would you be willing to?

I wouldn't be surprised that the cast and crew were aware of his sexuality, but kept it quiet because he hadn't come out yet. Maybe he asked and they agreed to have a guy (maybe even his real life boyfriend) dress as a female for the scene.

What kills me is that you see females kissing each other (AS females) all the time on shows and nobody makes a big deal about it, but when a guy does it, its news for some reason.

The only thing about this situation is that it seems like an awfully lot to go through. It's not like that scene was so essential to the episode that they couldn't do the episode without that scene, or just have Ralph Carter be an actor and kiss a real girl. If I'm not mistaken he kissed a girl on a previous episode so it's strange to go through all of that (Having a guy dress as a girl) just so he'd be kissing someone he's more comfortable with. I don't have any problem with him kissing a guy. I think people just have a hard time believing that so much effort was put into making him feel comfortable for a two minute scene.

I'm a "girl" and I don't appreciate seeing two others lip-locked!!! As you know, I've got absolutely nothing against homosexuality, but it just kills me this double-standard. You can tell its still a "man's world" in television production, because I can assure you this trend wouldn't be happening if women were at the helm. It's still homosexuality either way you slice it - just a double-standard.

I know for a fact Solomon that you'd be slamming a show like crazy if they had two guys kissing on it (that wasn't a show geared to that lifestyle).

Oh I know - you've got a good point, but I'm just trying to figure out some sort of reason IF it were a guy - otherwise, again, it seems like a lot of trouble for an insignificant scene, so all I could think of was that it was a specific request for whatever reason.

Think of all the love scenes poor Rock Hudson had to endure throughout his career (maybe Ralph thought he was going to be the next Rock and wanted to nip that in the bud! )

The closing credits listed Bessie being played by Sarina c.Grant. If I am wrong, I will admit it, but I specifically watched this episode to see what everyone was claiming and when her name was mentioned, I then checked the closing credits and from there searched on the internet to see if there were any photos/images of her. Have you ever consider becoming a comedian or a comedy writer?..there are times when you are absolutely hilarious

Not really, but i have always enjoyed making people laugh.

I found this quote from Janet Jackson:
Janet received her first kiss from actor Ralph Carter. Janet recalls: "I was 12 years old, and it was our last episode of Good Times. He wanted to say good-bye. So he called me in the room and he gave me a kiss on my lips".
Apparently, Ralph wasn't totally opposed to kissing females. Maybe he just liked them young.

Is this the former Lady T? I didn't know that was you.

So THAT'S what happened to them!!! Geez!!

We should have some sort of page that can cross reference all these name changes!!

Back On Topic - if you can spot an adam's apple on BettyBen there - it'll be proof positive! "Man hands" are also a good clue, but I knew a petite chick who couldn't have ripped 10 lb lobsters apart, so its not definitive - the adams apple is tho! ;)

I was the one who brung up this topic a year ago and yes it was a MAN in drag. There was no way that was a woman, it;s just no way. So that was proof right there that Ralph was Gay not that there is anything wrong with that-lol

HAHAHAHA!!!!!
I thought so too when I saw the marathon on TV land. Can anyone prove this with a screen capture?
Also, what was the name on the closing credits?

Another thing I found strange about the episode was that Michael (just like JJ in the second-season episode JJ Becomes A Man) was arrested for a crime he didn't commit, and the real criminal looked like someone completely different.

You know it was time for Good Times to throw in the towel...lol

LMAO, If it were a guy I think it would have come out by now. Look at the big deal Ellen and Roseanne had to go through.

Evidently, it was probably his boyfriend at the time who he was kissing. So they had the other one dress up as a girl.Ralph's boyfriend was probably the jealous type.. I don't want no one kissing you but me!!

In the episode a Friend in Need where they were having a party Michael was kissing a girl Yevone. I know for sure she was a girl. She was in a previous episode. I'm sure that was a guy in drag in the episode you are talking about.

:clap :clap :clap  :mango

I can't believe these people believe that too. Do you really think in this day and age that something like that would go undedected??? How could anyone make a judgment call like that on a scene with a person that appeared very very briefly, split seconds??? I have seen bad wigs on people, masculine looking hands on women, etc. Doesn't mean a thing. please don't answer my post. Just rhetorical questions. OMG, let's get a new thread on here. Pleeeeeeeeeze!!!!!! :p :p :p
